The Greek Connection

In examining the Clippers point guard situation for next season, I surmised that the Clippers might be interested in the top point guards currently playing in the EuroLeague, Greek players Theo Papaloukas of CSKA Moscow and Dimitrios Diamantidis of Panathananikos.  Indeed, MDsr was in Athens for the EuroLeague Final Four this week, where the two point guards squared off in the championship game (won by Panathanaikos 93-91). Ian Whittel reports that the Clippers are on the list of teams interested in EuroLeague MVP Papaloukas:

Although Papaloukas turns 30 Tuesday, his representatives have let it be known that "three or four" NBA teams have expressed a strong interest in the CSKA guard. The Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks are said to be on the interested list.

No word on whether Diamantidis is also being courted.

I have to admit, this crossed my mind
as our season wound down...He;s not a point, he's more like Ewing...except lazier and bad attitude...

"Smush Parker's days with the Los Angeles Lakers            are over, as the ex-Fordham guard was told by the club that, "We're going in a different direction."

But Parker's days in L.A. might not be over. Sam Cassell is not getting any younger and Shaun Livingston is out for the entire 07-08 season. So, Parker could end up signing as a free agent with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Kill me now...
Yes, the Clippers need a point guard.  No, they don't need Smush Parker.

Ok...
how about this one...most likely, it would be for CM

"Trading forward Ron Artest has become a priority, if not the priority, within a Sacramento Kings front office eager to change the roster and, in this case in particular, the culture of the splintered locker room.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat are likely suitors.

Sounds good
If he can be had for a package anchored by Tim Thomas.

The only rumor of note lately was that Shaun was seen driving and walking without a limp in Beverly Hills.  Its largely unattributed and it reads like some dude is just pretty sure he saw him, so of course hit YAYsports for the coverage.

The Cavalier...
The Cavalier at YAYSports is a strength and conditioning coach, and he's strangely preoccupied with the 'preventability' of Shaun's injury.  When he references being 'yelled at' by commenters, I was one of those.  He clearly has no first hand knowledge of Shaun's workout regimen, though feels completely convinced that whatever it was, it was insufficient.  Now he is using a 2 sentence rumor about Shaun at a gas station to 'prove' that he is right.  Well, now I'm convinced for sure!

Was it 1 AM?  Was he getting Funyuns?  Maybe he was looking for a Power Bar.

As for Artest...  haven't we already tried that a couple of times?

by Steve Perrin on May 15, 2007 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, we have
but you know how MD loves those defensive players...and we all know about RA's defensive prowess...

Artest is done
He is getting worse, not better, in all respects.

He'll be out of the league by the end of this year.  I'd keep Corey.

are the clippers crazy
artest has torn apart every team he has played    on .why do coaches/gm  think they can change a player? the worst thing you can do entering into a relationship is try to change the other person. it rarely works. with the insertion of cm into the starting  lineup the chemistry of the team changed for the better.cm became the type of player dunleavy wanted a team player.artest has only cared about himself.

Source of the Artest Rumor...
I finally read the full SacBee article about the Clippers being, in their words, a 'likely suitor' for Artest.  The basis of the Clippers' supposed interest is simply the fact that they pursued the deal before.  Even the SacBee seemed unconvinced though, concluding that the Clippers need a point guard more than anything else, and therefore would be more likely to pursue Bibby than Artest.
Ron Artest for Corey Maggette had been discussed last season. But the serious knee injury that could keep point guard Shaun Livingston out all 2007-08 means a greater likelihood of the Clippers pursuing Mike Bibby.

Artest to the Clippers is a non-starter.

Surely, SURELY, with Maggette's stock up and Artest's stock down, the Clippers would not be the least bit interested in Artest for Maggette now.
