THE LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS OF ANAHEIM?

Editor's Note - I removed the body of this story, which is available at the Orange County Register at this link.  Please remember that it is our policy at Clips Nation to link to people's story, not to copy and paste them in their entirety.  I don't want my posts taken in their entirety to other sites, so let's not do it ourselves.  Excerpting is fine.  Thanks.

COULD the CLippers move to Anaheim?

sounds good to me!

I could walk to the games!!

I don’t know why the clippers brass took all that jerking around from the Staples management when they were renewing their last lease! They got treated like crap…they even came out and reported that the Clippers were their least profitable habitants…But Donald is cleaning up so who cares!

Ugh

Dear God please no. I can’ t justify being an “Anaheim” fan as an Angelino. And how annoying would the “Los Angeles Lakers of Los Angeles” be?

This will never happen

For one big reason their is not as big of a market for a team in Anaheim then there is for one in LA even if it is being split by two teams. That is exactly the reason that we left San Diego for and it will be the reason we stay in LA. And it is also the reason that the Angles like to be called the LA Angles of Anaheim.

Weird

Not going to happen, but I guess it’s the guy’s job to try.

Takes us back to the old days, I must say. I remember when it was just another completely obvious no-brainer for the Clips to move down to the pond, but stubborn Sterling seemed to be comfortably ensconsced in the decrepitude of the Sports Arena. As is often true, it’s risky to second guess Sterling on pure business decisions. Did he know that the “fabulous” Forum was in just as bad shape and almost as antiquated as the Sports Arena, and the Staples Center was on the way? Now it’s the Honda Center and Anaheim that is behind the times and has no team or any real prospect for one, while Sterling has dramatically increased revenues and has fielded a vastly improved team since making the move to Staples, and he continues to upgrade his commitment to the franchise and its fans, bringing in free agents, making aggressive personnel moves, finally opening up the practice facility.

I wonder if the guy with the same job in Inglewood is predicting that an NBA team will be coming to the revitalized Forum in the next 5 years. Okay, probably not. But the Clips are in a great place, and with Baron leading the way, a strong roster (and the flexibility of 09 expiring contracts and 2010 capspace), they will be very competitive in Staples.

Forget it

Sterling didn’t want to drive to Anaheim for games 10 years ago when he could have moved, and he sure doesn’t want to now. And he’s making money in Staples. Finally, realize that from the new training facility to Staples is 12 miles; but it’s 40 miles to the Honda Center.

As bad as

Sterling is in some sports moves he is pretty smart when it comes to the business side of sports. Which is why he won’t move to Anaheim.
