Rumor about Bobcats trade

Sometimes it's not just the moves that are made, but the timing of said moves. This afternoon the Charlotte Bobcats waived two players: Andre Brown and Linton Johnson III. A couple of weeks ago this would have raised no eyebbrows. Teams were cutting their rosters down to the required 15 for the start of the regular season. Now, however, it is more than a little suspisious. There has been plenty of trade talk surrounding the Bobcats, who have made all but public overtures to the New Jersey Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers, and are openly shopping Gerald Wallace in their desire to land a true center to play next to Emeka Okafor. Now they've suddenly waived two players, taking their roster down to 13. Sounds like the Bobcats have a taker, and that in the deal they're getting back more players than they're sending out. According to a couple of well-informed sources the Bobcats have been aggressively working the phone lines as they watch their attendance drop in direct proportion to their winning percentage. It sounds like we could see a huge move made by the Bobcats in the next few hours.

I hope that there is not a deal for anyone on the Bobcats that includes ANYONE but TT.  It could be all speculation, but still.

The Nets continue to be in trade discussions with Charlotte, which is desperate for frontcourt help, but they don’t have the expendable post player Larry Brown wants. The Bobcats are willing to part with Gerald Wallace for a player of consequence, but are more actively pushing Matt Carroll or Adam Morrison, mindful that the Nets are shooter-crazy these days.

Looks like the Nets may be the target for now. Not sure what “bigs” the Clips would willing to trade. Kaman and Camby must surely be staying in Clippers jerseys, at least for the time being. And is Gerald Wallace the answer?

Doesn't sound like Clippers to me

Last week’s Clippers-Cats rumor involved Kaman – if indeed the waiving of Brown and Johnson is to make room on the roster for incoming players, that would not seem to be a Clippers move. Kaman makes a lot (as does Camby, and the Bobcats want a big) so there’s no need to package more bodies. The other reason to package bodies would be to sweeten the pot. Well, the Bobcats WANT Kaman, so there’s no reason for the Clippers to throw more into the deal, and with the possible exception of Tim Thomas, there’s really no contracts the Clippers want to get rid of. So if the Charlotte roster moves are the big tip off in this case, it all points away from the Clippers being involved.

BTW, Citizen Badd – looks like you omitted the original link. Can you add that in a comment please. Credit where it’s due.

Kaman is going nowhere

He is playing great ball, so it would take a lot to pry him at this point.

Thomas is a desireable commodity now for teams looking to get uinder the cap in 2010. I assume that includes the Clippers, so I don’t really see him being traded, unless Dunleavy is planning on skipping the 2010 FA bonanza (which I’m all for if they can get some talent in here).

It’s hard to say what the Clippers really need right now. They have talent at every position. The bench sucks, but I don’t see how they can improve on it much.

The bench is going to improve

As our rookies improve. Our rookies have talent, Eric Gordon, Mike Taylor, and even DeAndre Jordan are all promising rookies. If they can progress, I think by mid season we should have a solid bench.
