Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Playing Coach

In the wake of the trade, it's going to be really interesting to see what kind of lineups Dunleavy goes with.  The two main issues now are filling the shooting guard spot, and balancing the big three PF/C's.

As of right now, I'm fine with letting Eric Gordon develop at his natural position that the trade left wide open.  There will be some growing pains, but he's shown he can get to the line (and make his free throws), and gives a good effort on D.

As for the big three; Randolph, Kaman, Camby.  We have three above average bigs now, and the only feeling I have right now without the benefit of seeing them play together is that Camby should come off the bench to start since his minutes need to be limited anyway.  I'm open to whatever works, but here's how I'd divy up the playing time (on average) going forward:

PG: Baron(34), Taylor(12), Hart (2)

SG: Gordon(30), Taylor/New Guy/Whoever else we pick up(18)

SF: Thornton(33), Randolph(10), Novak(5)

PF: Randolph(24), Camby(14), Skinner/P.Davis(10)

C: Kaman(34), Camby(16)

*Ship Ricky Davis out of town ASAP!

I realize that

He may even continue to start for a while. The more he plays the higher the draft pick we get next year.

your missing his 14 mins at PF. and i for one now hope we play this thing out….

basically we give gordon a chance, thats why we drafted him #7 for, and start running S&R’s with baron and one of our two solid post players in every half court set. when we rebound(which we should be MUCH better at by giving up TT and replacing him with ZBO), you outlet the pass and run, letting baron, thornton and gordon break down opposing transition D. If they get back in time, slow down, and run a S&R with baron and either kaman, ZBO or even camby. baron is quick enough to get to the rack if the opposing guard gets caught or slides under while kaman and ZBO are good enough shooters and finishers if the defense traps on baron to get an easy attempt. have gordon especially, sit on the wings and fire away if the double goes down to one of our bigs. thornton should be out on the wing as well and if theres enough ball movement off the screen and rolls, the defense should be in scrambles, which leads to drives through the lane for easy buckets or a chance at the line for the two young studs.

i really think this could work. it just might take a while….

Like the way you think...

BD, Gordon, Thornton, + a revolving door of 3 quality bigs at the PF & C spots finally looks like a complete team.

Of course, as I type this, Ricky Davis is getting another start. Hopefully the playing time is divided the same as last night.
