Clippers Dodge HUGE Bullet

Stay connected for news and updates

Sometimes in Clipper Nation we think things can't get any worse but then you read about this - Cuttino Mobley having a serious heart condition that could have killed him at any moment on the court.

ClipperSteve has written a fine article on Cat's retiring, almost making it sound like Cat  died at times. I agree with CS on all his points about Cat and I'm not writing this to voice my same opinions.

My point in this post is that as Clipper fans maybe this is just one thing that can put all this losing in perspective. We fans know that awful things happen to the Clippers over and over again. I was there when the air got sucked out of the building as Livingston's legs gave out and he plopped to the floor in a gruesome mess.

Mobley could have died on the Clippers court. He has the same condition Hank Gathers had. A guy that looked like he was in top physical condition, just cruising back down the court - suddenly collapsing, DEAD.

Yes, the Clippers obviously did not know how bad Mobley's heart condition had become and they were playing him big minutes. Can you imagine how devastating it would have been if Mobley collapsed, maybe even died during a Clippers game?

You could be optimistic and say they would have rallied after his death, but that would just be morbid. No rally would ever come close to making up for a man's life.

So whatever their record turns out to be this season, I vow not to feel so badly about it. At least not as badly considering how things could have gone.

The Clippers dodged a huge bullet, one that was headed straight for Mobley's heart. And I am truly glad for Mr. Cuttino Mobley.
