FElton Protest New Year's Eve

We have 16 days until FElton returns to Staples Center on New Year's Eve.

Citizen Marten (the only Clipper fan in Sweden) informed us of a tradition in European football (soccer) where fans throw onto the pitch (field) a pig's head (pig's head) when a traitor returns.  We're pretty sure that no one in Clips Nation would be able to get a pig's head into Staples Center, or would be able to throw it (or hold it without throwing up for that matter).  By the way, citizen Marten also asked those of us in LA to take advantage of our location and go to the game and boo the man.  It's the least we can do for our Swedish compatriot.

Citizen Clipper T suggested we ALL throw our old Brand 42 jersey's onto the court.  The idea has merit.  If we do it, remember to tape over the B and the D so that it reads RAN instead of BRAND.

Here are the questions for the citizenry -

  • Are you in?
  • Does anyone know if the ushers would eject fans for such an act?
  • If you were in the lower bowl and a jersey came from above, would you send it along on it's journey to the court?
  • Does anyone have any other ideas?  What if you wore the jerseys backwards so the RAN was on the front?  That should get some camera time at least.

Be aware that I will not be there as I am out of town for the holidays.  I don't want to instigate anything and then be accused of backing out at the last minute.  So I'm backing out up front.  But a protest of some sort is in order and a rainstorm of 42 jerseys would certainly send a message.

Discuss.

I think the Ushers would eject us

I’m pretty sure that if you do anything that involves throwing things they would kick us out. As I said I will be on the lowest level in Staples and with attendance the way it has been I could possibly move to 3-4 rows from the court. I like the idea of taping over the B and the D and wearing the jerseys backwards it would sort of be like a uniform. Maybe if anyone goes to a game in the next few days they could ask the ushers if they would kick us out for throwing the shirts on court. The ushers seem pretty cool and probably would understand our anger towards FElton.

by bestclipfan on Dec 15, 2008 3:22 PM PST reply actions

Expanding the jersey idea

Turn the jersey around, cross out the B and the D (Ran), and above that put FElton….
and add a bunch of $$ everywhere….
Almost 100% positive no one can throw anything on to the court without getting kicked out. They even say so before every game.
How about some coordinated chants?

by Clip Show on Dec 15, 2008 3:24 PM PST reply actions

Hmmm

But I could contribute an EB bobble head if anyone wants to snap its neck on the jumbo.

Rather violent I guess, but all is fair in effigy.

I am also up for creating some shirts....

I will be there wearing something like…..

Front: Thanks* for the memories #42
Back: Memories of you LYING, and DECEIVING, and RUNNING….. something like that.

Front: FElton

Front: Thanks Philly
Back: Maybe it wasn’t us after all !!!!

Front: ELTON BRAND
Back: Bringing you losing seasons since 1999..

Pigs head (pigs head)

Lol. That made me laugh out loud.

All good points/ideas. I think the main thing is that we must do SOMETHING

As far as the jersey throwing is concerned:

Getting kicked out would be a possibility that we would have to embrace pre-toss.
I think the potential for getting thrown out is there, but it will be greatly affected by how many people are actually taking part. If there are 3 dudes tossing dozens of jerseys, they will be shown the door with certainty.
But if there are, say, 40, 50 individuals all taking part simultaneously, what the hell are the ushers going to do? I know, I know… organizing something of this size is probably am impossibility. But picturing it gives me the best kind of butterflies in my stomach. It would be so ridiculously fantastic and appropriate.
I, like CS wont be able to go to the game (most likely) so I can’t really lead the charge. It’s somewhat unfair for me even to suggest it.

Something to think about… Red Wings fans (I think it’s the Red Wings, but I’m no hockey fan) have a well known tradition of throwing octopus onto the ice. The stadium banned the activity within the last couple seasons… yet the octopus (octopi? octopodes?) continue to fly. I think jerseys would be considered an extremely toned down version of this. And with much more meaning to back up the act.

I think the custom t-shirts are a great plan ‘B’. Definitely less risky.

Oh me, oh my!!!! The Red Baron has come home!!

You could organize a huge banner that says "Your bedrail is the only thing we’ll remember" or something like that. In Europe, the ultras are very organized and raise extra money for these kind of actions. I’ll happily contribute.

You can all buy cheap whistles and use it every time he touches the ball.

When Barcelona soccer player Luis Figo signed with archrival Real Madrid. In his first game back, the sound of the crowd whistling was measured to be equal to an airplane taking of. Here’s some inspiration.

If you don’t get thrown out, the jersey idea is great.

Instead of writing something on the jersey. First you can drag it around in the dirt, then burn half of it and finally let your dog play with the thing for about a week. Then, bring it to the game and waive it in the air.

by Marten on Dec 15, 2008 4:29 PM PST reply actions

Great idea!

Love the idea of bringing whistles and blowing them everytime FElton touches the ball. I am pretty sure the ushers will not tolerate that either though, since it might actually affect game play as well.
Banners are also prohibited from the arena, so even if we were to sneak some in, I am sure they would be confiscated rather quickly.

by Clip Show on Dec 15, 2008 4:58 PM PST up reply actions

thats pretty harsh (the youtube video). I dont think throwing things will happen unless hundreds do it and then the game would probably be stopped or something.

by andrewexd on Dec 15, 2008 5:03 PM PST up reply actions

According to the Wikipedia article, NHL will arrest fans that throw octopus onto the rink…I am assuming, after the Detroit-Pacers brawl, this is especially true nowadays!…Getting kicked out is one thing, but getting arrested and charged for FElton? CS won’t get too many hits come NY’s day if half his Citizenry is in the pen!
But I admit, it would be a beautiful site to see…

Just boo, you'll look like an idiot doing anything else

Maybe they’ll show you on sportscenter saying, “This guy had nothing better to do on new years eve than make elton brand tee-shirts and act like a fool”, “I wonder if this guy has ever kiss a girl”. Anything other than boo-ing is pointless. Throwing anything will get you arrested.

Not many people are going to show up to this. Most people have new years parties to go to.

Good thing is the game ends at 9pm, and if you live in downtown it’s an option. You also get a pass on looking like a loser going to a game on new years eve. Otherwise you’ll be stuck in traffic all night.

by FireDunleavy.com on Dec 15, 2008 4:36 PM PST reply actions

Who care's what people think of you, especially if it gets in the way of your fandom?!

Don’t make Elton Brand T-Shirts because people may think you are a fool? Did you not forget the we are Clipper fans and people already think of us as foolish for that? I would not think that, I would think, yeah this guy is a tried and true hard core Clipper fan.

Image consciousness is for the Laker fans, you sure you aren’t secretly one of them?

by Newton Pham on Dec 15, 2008 5:06 PM PST up reply actions

hmmmmm

A. I personally could care less what ANYONE thinks of whatever I do in response to his betrayal. I would do what I want to do for myself, not anyone else, so frankly who cares what ANYBODY would think? If people want to coordinate anything, I personally think it’s awesome. HOW many people stand up and show they actually care for the Clips, I mean really.

B. Most good New Years parties won’t even get going until 10pm, so that’s not a problem.

C. There’s booing and then there’s BOOING. I won’t have a voice for my New Years party, which incidentally I am taking my gf of 6 years who luckily enough let me kiss her on the mouth this year :/ …

D. If everyone just followed whatever rules we never would have had John Lennon, Einstein, Shakespeare, Eric Cartman…. so sometimes you have to be an individual not a drone…

E. CYA at the game!!!

Good luck getting to your new years party by 10.

Maybe if you take the subway. There’s a 10,000 person rave, 3 big shows at LA Live plus other madness. Traffic isn’t going to move in downtown that night.

by FireDunleavy.com on Dec 19, 2008 1:45 PM PST up reply actions

I totally disagree

I don’t think people would look like a fool.

by cliptakular on Dec 16, 2008 4:19 PM PST up reply actions

Yes, they will.

I can guarantee you that the ushers will run up to you and not only ask you to leave, but call someone to escort you to leave. I went to a game not too long ago when someone swung their arm back to throw something and the usher grabbed his arm and called security to escort him out, not only for that game, but for life.

Bottom Line: DO NOT.

Sorry, we are the BEST team in LA!

by LAC on Dec 15, 2008 4:43 PM PST reply actions

I will defintiely tape my Felton Jersey

but we should probably do some coordinated chanting or something like every time
Felton goes to the FT line or something.

by bestclipfan on Dec 15, 2008 5:21 PM PST reply actions

hmmmmm.

Being banned for life??? Doubtful… my friend was “banned from Dodger Stadium for life”. (for throwing a ball on the field, and he deserved all the negative attention he got. REALLY STUPID MOVE) But he still attends at least 20 games a season. It’s not like they have a “Staples Center Most Wanted List” with pictures of people who have caused trouble.
I’m not advocating anything stupid or dangerous. Keep it clean. Keep it safe.

I have to disagree with “Firedunleavy.com”… “Anything other than booing is pointless”. Huh? What makes booing so worthwhile? Not that I never boo… just don’t see why this is the only form of protest that has merit .

Oh me, oh my!!!! The Red Baron has come home!!

by Clipper T on Dec 15, 2008 5:31 PM PST reply actions

Chants are fine

But who’s gonna see your tee-shirt? EB isn’t going to ask you to turn around so he can read the back of your shirt. Maybe if you get all the fans that will be in attendence to line up, you can spell Elton sucks with letter shirts.

by FireDunleavy.com on Dec 19, 2008 1:50 PM PST up reply actions

EB won't be there

and you could always do a poster along with the shirt/jersey. And do you ever have anything good to say about anything.

Pig Head

You can buy a pig head from filipino restaurants. There is a dish called Lechon which is a whole roasted pig (head included). I think that would help us get over the vomitting aspect CS pointed out.

The real problem is bringing outside food (which I guess a pig head would count) into Staples.

I’m a partial season ticket holder so I’m in for any FElton bashing activities.

I'm just

going to cheer Elton for all the hard work he gave us fans every game he played. I don’t harbor nearly the disgust for him that I did for Kandyman who rarely put in a good days work. In the end I think he did us a favor, I know I’d rather have Camby and Randolf then just EB.

by Phil Gurnee on Dec 15, 2008 10:21 PM PST reply actions

In hindsight...

it appears as if for now, he HAS done us all a favor by leaving. However, I feel this game on New Years is an opportunity for some (most?) Clippers fans to gain some closure on the whole FElton debacle. And why not go out with a bang? There will be plenty of time later on down the road to cheer for this guy (if I ever choose to again). I don’t mind you cheering for him either. I am sure you won’t be the only one.

by Clip Show on Dec 15, 2008 11:13 PM PST up reply actions

The Best Closure Would Be

That the Clippers win the game and have a better record than the Sixers this year.

by Jax on Dec 16, 2008 9:08 AM PST up reply actions

I thought going into the season that the Clippers would finish better

With the exception of the 2 spot, where are the Sixers better than the Clippers.

I thought they would have an advantage at the 4, but I think ZBo is out playing EBo right now.

F-Elton!

by mikey p on Dec 16, 2008 9:21 AM PST up reply actions

You are correct...

but I am not sure I want to wait until the season is over for that to happen. Trust me, I enjoy seeing the Sixers imploding right now too, but I need something concrete to look forward to, and this game provides that for me. :D

by Clip Show on Dec 16, 2008 9:38 AM PST up reply actions

Let's Be Thankful

Let’s Be Thankful that Elton chose to leave and didn’t saddle us with a 5 year contract for an aging, undersized power forward who has never demonstrated team leadership at the pro level.

Let’s Be Thankful that Elton’s chosing to leave gave us the opportunity to pull down Zach while giving up two aging and marginally productive vets.

Let’s Be Thankful that Elton hung with the Clips for seven years and gave us what should have been a trip to the semi-conference finals (gotta think about that).

Don’t be sour. Be Thankful and move on…..

by Jerdog on Dec 15, 2008 10:39 PM PST reply actions

Thankful for what?

Yes… we did get Randolph and Camby but it wasn’t because of him.

It wasn’t like he was thinking “Hmmm… I think I’m going to the Sixers so that my team and my fans could sign both Camby and Randolph.”

You could move on but thanking him for backstabbing us is not the right word.

by cliptakular on Dec 16, 2008 4:12 PM PST up reply actions

Don't thank him

Just be thankful of the situation. Odds are, it would have been a big letdown had EB stayed on the Clips. The guy doesn’t look so hot this year.

by Newton Pham on Dec 17, 2008 11:00 AM PST up reply actions

No thanks for me

just going to boo him. It isn’t that he left that angers me, it is how he left. He had us going that he was going to stay, and then at the last second changed his mind. That is why I am going to boo him and whatever other stuff I choose to do.

by bestclipfan on Dec 16, 2008 1:42 PM PST reply actions

3 FElton Jerseys

I have 3 FElton jerseys, and I would love NOTHING more than to throw all 3 of them on the court, but I don’t want to get kicked out of the joint.. I’m probably going to leave the game early, because I’m attending an NYE party, so maybe I’ll do it before I leave! LOL

I’ll be in the lower bowl, so I would totally do it for the fans that tossed them down, if it didn’t result in me being ejected.

Team Effort

Is it possible for us to actually organize something? Someone take the lead on this and I’m willing to contribute whichever way I can. I’ll donate to print fake money with his ugly mug on it, or help design bold t-shirts that display our disdain. We already talked to the usher in our section and we plan to get thrown out for drunken heckling. That’s ok though, we’re going to buy another pair of tickets and give him the same treatment from the other side of the building. Eff the guy.

Individually we are strong. Collectively we can crush his soul.

you are a true fan

either that or you have money to burn, jk
But I will totally be for anything that won’t get me kicked out. I definitely going to edit my Brand Jersey and maybe I will bring a poster or two. Maybe we could meet outside the main entrance and organize some sort of chants or something.

Brand is such a loser

I kind of feel like that weird guy who can’t get over his ex. Hopefully the NYE game will be closure. I’m pretty excited that our team is playing better. To continue the ex-girlfriend analogy, it would be nice if Z-Bo just gives it to EB. Kind of like a better new GF.

Slash, I’m still bitter that the Clippers blew that game against the Sixers earlier this year. Also, EB is a loser.
