Let's be clear. When you make statements like 'It couldn't possibly get any worse' it's not true. It can always get worse. If 2 starters are hurt, then having 3 starters hurt is worse. If 3 starters are hurt, then having 4 starters hurt is worse. For tonight's game in Minnesota, barring some sort of miracle, the Clippers will be without Elton Brand, Shaun Livingston, Paul Davis, Chris Kaman, Al Thornton and Aaron Williams. And don't forget that Sam Cassell is as much a casualty of this injury ravaged season as anyone else. That leaves them nine roster players eligible to play. Five of those nine have been waived by other teams within the last 9 months, including all three of their point guards. Could it get worse? Sure it could. But it doesn't need to. It's bad enough.
The Timberwolves are probably very happy to see the Clippers. The Wolves have 15 wins this season - 2 of them are against the Clippers. They have not beaten any team three times this season - they can do so tonight against the Clippers. They have one win by 20 or more points - against the Clippers. Or maybe the Wolves aren't that happy. They've worked hard to improve their lottery odds each of the last two seasons - but with Memphis and Seattle in full tank mode, and the Clippers coming to town, the Wolves could actually go from last place in the Westen Conference (where they've been essentially all season) into 13th place, ahead of both the Grizzlies and the Sonics, with a win tonight. Break up the Wolves!
- Seriously, who cares? Are the Clippers allowed to forfeit? Maggette really shouldn't be playing right now on his knees. If they hold him out, they only need one more loss to get down to the magic number of 7. Can we come up with a reason to suspend Smush? Where is his car parked?
