Long-suffering

Like most you out there, I am a long-suffering fan.  It all started for me seriously back in '87.  I'm still wondering what ever happened with Reggie Williams.  My senior paper in college was even on the problems of the Clippers.  I just happened to find Clips Nation and am excited to read what other sufferers (sp?) have to say.

Looking at the options for the future, I don't see any quick-fix solutions.  With the strength of the Western Conference, do the Clippers actually have a chance to make the playoffs in '09?  Even if they did, how far could they really get?

I would love to see Brand and Maggette come back, but is tying up that kind of money really going to make a difference in the near future.  Would it be better to blow the whole thing up and start over again?  Maybe a sign and trade with either Brand and/or Maggette?  Could the right deals help the future long term for the Clippers?  I'm throwing out ideas and would love to get some responses.

Personally, going real young would make me as happy as anything.  They might be real bad if they did, but are they going to be a playoff team if they go with a veteran group?  Could it be worse than this year.  Lets let Thornton and whoever they draft play 36-40 minutes a game and develop.  Save money under the cap to add some pivotal pieces a few years from now when they might actually be competitive.

I'm not sure my logic makes a bunch of sense.  All I know is that I would rather watch a bunch of young, enthusiastic players stink, instead of watching a bunch of veterans stink.

As Hacksaw would say...REACTION!!??!!

Welcome!

Your timing is impeccable Benoit. We just upgraded to a new platform today. So you’re first FanPosts happen to be the first FanPosts that anyone’s ever done here (since they used to be called ‘Diaries’).

Several months ago, we had a ‘Fix the Clips’ contest. If you’re feeling up to it, you can read through the suggestions there. There weren’t a lot of ‘blow it up’ offerings as I recall.

I feel pretty strongly that you can’t blow it up yet. After a season with 320 player games lost to injury, you have to see how the team is when it’s healthy. Especially given the advancements in Kaman’s game and the addition of Thornton. You just have to see how the team looks next season before you get out the dynamite.

You may be right that it’s too hard to compete in the West. But I don’t like the alternative. Unless you think that Minnesota or Memphis is significantly closer to a championship today than they were 12 months ago, I’m not convinced that ‘starting over’ works.

See your point

I definitely see you point about not blowing it up. After I wrote the post, I started to think what the Clippers could run out there next year. They could bring back the frontline of Kaman, Brand, and Maggette. If all were healthy, that frontline is as good as just about any in the league. The backcourt is the problem. I am not sure about Mobley as a starter and I know we don’t have a starting PG. I would love to see Baron Davis in a Clipper uniform if he becomes available (which is a possibility). I am just not sure whe have the money to do it (I haven’t done the math). Also, what about a starting lineup of Kaman at C, Brand at PF, Thonton at SF, Maggette at SG, and ____ at PG? Anyway, I do see what you are saying. And thanks for the welcome Clipper Steve!

maggete at sg

hardly really useful….i see maggete more useful like this:
C Kaman PF Brand SF Thornton SG Livingston PG Baron Davids
well i guess you all have realized maggete use is being sign and trade for davids…not sure if the salaries match though…
