NBA Myths
Here are a few:
The NBA. It is a league where reputation precedes much of the action on the court. It is also a league where myth and urban legend are fed. Here are two off the top of my head:
Kobe is a great defensive player. (Really? By what measue?)
LeBron is a crybaby. (This one is new, but equally silly)
I'm sure there are others. Please feel free to add to the list.

I got one.....
Traveling….is it 2 steps, 3 steps, or more?....not to mention the constant dragging and shuffling of the pivot foot. The whole thing has turned into a joke..

Getting personal
Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony are two of the best players in the league.
First round blowout again. There still can’t be serious argument about this.

My personal favorite...
Although it is basically only David Stern who insists it’s a myth as opposed to a fact:
Established players get the benefit of referees calls.
Stern constantly tries to refute this, going so far as to say the league office has ‘proof’ that this is a myth. Why then, have we not been shown the ‘proof’? (Of course the obvious answer is that this is not provable one way or the other.)
And yet every coach, every TV analyst, every player accepts it as fact.
The Kobe one fascinates me, and I’ve posted about it extensively in the past. Defense is such a subjective measure, and once enough people say something, it is accepted as true. Phil Jackson went out of his way to tell reporters that Kobe was a great defensive player several years ago, and it’s been NBA gospel ever since. Of course, this one is especially tricky because Kobe certainly can be great, and at times is great, but the vast majority of the time he gambles and ball watches and is generally a poor defender.

Stop making general statements.
“And yet every coach, every TV analyst, every player accepts it as fact.”
Really?
You’ve personally talked to every coach, every TV analyst, and every player and every single one of them has said that that established players get preferential treatment.
Stop make generalizations about specific incidents when you’re accusing others of the same thing. Take some logic courses before blogging away.

Um, you're new here, right?
Hi, I’m ClipperSteve. I’m your host. If you like it here, you’re welcome to stay. If you don’t like it, you don’t need to come back. But most people don’t insult their host first thing. I’m just saying.
As it happens, no one made me take a logic course before I got my license to blog.

"Stop making general statements"
is itself a general statement.
Telling someone to “take some logic courses” is an assumption that the someone has not taken logic courses. It is the distant cousin of general statements.
Getting overly upset about what someone says on a blog is called tight underwear. Try freeballing.

There's no such thing
as “palming” or “carry over”...It’s just that these guys’ first step is so lightning fast!!
I agree with you on KB…He never guards the other teams best offensive guard…Lots of players looked like DPofY against QR!!

I don't think
that they should say Kobe’s a great defensive player b/c he doesn’t guard the opposing team’s best players. Although I understand why that’s so (he needs to stay in the game).

Another thing...
speaking of great defensive players….I think Bruce Bowen is a little bit over-rated. After watching the way he man-handled Peja yesterday, I get the feeling that, yeah, he is pretty quick and all (although not on the same level as Q), but he uses his body and hands A LOT. The funny part about this is that he doesn’t get called for it, because of his “reputation”. I mean, if he were playing in the 80’s when pretty much any contact was legal this side of decapitation, he would be all league easily…I just think he gets away with way too much contact that isn’t called a foul when clearly it is. Bruce Bowen, you, my friend from Cal St. Fullerton, are a myth.

Ah, but according to Stern...
Reputation means nothing! Referees call it exactly the same whether it is Bruce Bowen playing defense or Quinton Ross. It is only our imagination that Bowen is allowed to put his hands on opposing players and other defenders are not. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

Apparently...
Stern is a Jedi master and tries to use his jedi mind tricks on all the weak minded nba fans. Thankfully, us here in the Nation are not that naive…(hand wave)...
