Trading question for you

I'm curious, as an outsider, what value you place on your players.

Specifically I noticed that you're a team that may have a decent change at the number one pick and I wondered what you'd be willing to give up for it.  Specifically, what you'd be willing to trade the blazers for it?

On the table:

Outlaw, Frye, Sergio, Jack, Rudy, McRoberts, Konponen, Freeland, la Frentz for dumping a player you don't want and balancing the dollars, and the 13th pick (assuming the blazers don't luck out by some miracle again).

So who would you want with that first pick and who would you be willing to trade the first pick to us for and what else would you want included in the trade to balance it out?

Pretty laughable table for the 1st overall

Maggette, Mobley and the 1st and Minny’s 1st for Roy and LaFrentz.

The Blazers wouldn’t do that. But if I’m the Clippers I don’t do anything less. The Blazers one proven piece happens to be the only piece the Clippers need. Without Roy on the table, there really isn’t any reason to answer the phone.

Laughable?

It might seem so, until you realize that the Clippers once traded the second pick (Antonio McDyess) for Rodney Rogers and the 15th pick (Brent Barry). Hopefully they learned with the Brand trade that high draft picks are somewhat coveted and valuable, but you never know with Elgin.

I suppose that's what I'm hoping for

of course… I’m asking clipper fans here, and I’m pretty sure the hardcore clipper fans are smarter than the GM in this case.

I think your official slogan should be “We’re not stupid, we just like the pain.”

Roy is not the only proven item over there

But it doesn’t matter because Roy, Aldridge and Oden ARE untouchable unless your name is Lebron and even then I doubt the blazers would part with Oden considering what’s he’s turning into behind the scenes. I’m fairly certain Oden will surprise the league next year. You don’t keep players from summer league unless you know there is absolutely no need/purpose for them to go. Just saying.

Hmmm...

You understand that I have no pull with Elgin Baylor, right? And although club president Andy Roeser lives in my neighborhood, there’s that pesky retraining order business.

Are you asking what I would do now, or what I would do if it turned out to be the number 1 overall?

If it turns out to be the number 1 overall, I don’t see anyone on your list that would entice me to do a deal. I know Rudy is tearing up the ACB; I haven’t heard much about Kopponen in a while. And sure, a Sergio or a Jack would have been the Clippers starting point guard last season. A team needing a LOT of depth might be interested in some package of those players. But the Clippers (if they ever get healthy) go pretty deep in the front court, and really need an outstanding guard, which is what they would get in Derrick Rose.

Rudy, Kopponen/Sergio and the 13th pick might be of interest if Brand were to leave and the Clippers entered full on re-build mode. But if Brand stays, it’s ‘win now’ time for the Clippers, and Rose is the player they need.

Thanks

I was looking for some reality check feedback here. I agree with you on the Elton Brand equation.

Okay, so the blazers just need to hit that number one pick again. come on lucky .6% chance!!!
