Rockets Interested in Maggette?
Read the article. There's not much there, really. The Rockets could offer no more than the MLE, and I don't really see much in the way of a S&T unless they're willing to give up Battier, which, they're not. Which means that the Rockets are interested in Maggette the same way I'm interested in Shannon Elizabeth. Sure, I'm interested, but there's not much I can do about it.

Battier
Are you sure that the Rockets won’t part with Battier? The Rockets acquired Battier pre-Morey, and I’m not certain that Battier is Morey’s “type of player”. Maggette is the much better statistical player. I don’t know either way, but I just don’t see Battier as an untouchable.
Maggette for Battier and Head (Luther).

It's an interesting observation...
I was actually thinking about this the other day. Morey is the poster boy for the new GM’s, and he’s spent a small fortune on computers and software and analysts, and some are pointing to the Rockets’ success this season of validation of his methods. But Yao and McGrady and Battier all pre-date him, so it’s pretty hard to reach the conclusion that it all works perfectly. Having said that, it’s my assumption (and it is clearly just that, an assumption, based on nothing really) is that Battier is a very ‘Morey’ kind of guy. He’s never going to look great to even the best available metrics (11.6 PER this season, 13.8 career), he’s nonetheless valuable. Does Morey have better, proprietary, measures that prove his value (deflections, defensive rotations, whatever)? Or maybe, as you suggest, Morey secretly believes that Battier really is overrated and would love to move him. I suppose it’s possible.
