Article - Maggette Believes Brand

http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_9865888

I find it quite ironic given the current speculation-based "EB lied" hysteria around here that MDSr was telling everyone just before the draft that the Clippers fully expected Maggette to return.  Not true.

Maggette and Brand have always been stand-up guys with the Clippers, and have had to endure much during that time.  No need to go over those issues here.  If Maggette, who handled his exit professionally, says he believes EB, we should think twice about blasting him before all the facts are out.  After all, who knows EB better?

Man, consider the source…

Knowing someone or not has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with if they are being factually correct or not.

Give it up already.

Get me BD and 75 and I'm in

Not exactly what Corey said

Corey seems to believe that EB believes that he was unwanted. He is not saying that the Clips were trying to screw EB.

The Clippers Plan A was to resign EB and Corey and bring in Beno Udrih. Hence the midnight meeting.

When Baron Davis became available, it changed things.

The stories of Dunleavy, Falk and Elton all suggest the same thing; that there was an agreement between Brand and Dunleavy that they would get BD and Elton would get a 5 year deal.

When Falk became aware of the situation, he tried to change the deal more in EB’s favor, but that was hard because of the verbal with Baron. The Clippers were going to have to cut more guys to satisfy Falk. A stalemate ensued.

Falk called EB to his office, and they started taking other offers. He was pissed, and convinced Brand that he should start looking for more money. Philly had to trade guys to get Brand on board. Some sacrifice by Elton.

When the Clippers realized this, they tried to match, but Falk had convinced Elton to take the Philly deal.

So, I don’t think Elton lied initially. Falk corrupted him.

There it is, Jax. I would have done some things different if I were Clipper management, but John R. is right. Give it up.

We all know that you hate management. Well guess what. Management is the Clippers. Why do you root for this team? I don’t get it.

If you really think that they are so incompetent and stupid and evil, maybe the Lakers are a better option for you. You are placing yourself in a position to always be unhappy with this team.

Doesn’t sound fun.

Relax

Clipper fans are not clones. We have our differences. We are entitled to those differences. We should celebrate those differences. Those who want lockstep devotion should indeed follow the Lakers.

On this issue, if EB wanted to be here, he’d be here. The rest is irrelevant. I sympathize with John R and the countless hours he put reading the website analyzing the NBA collective bargaining agreement, but for many of us this result isn’t all that surprising.

So, you admit that EB lied

He said he wanted to be here repeatedly.

He lied, then.

Got to agree

If you believe EB and Falk, then continuing on as a Clipper fan kinda makes you a masochist. I’m not sure what “facts” you are awaiting to convince you either way. Falk told us why the deal fell apart. MDsr. dealt directly with EB. Falk didn’t get EB a better deal somewhere else.

MDsr. operated in a fashion that would have put the best possible team around their returning star PF and did so at EB’s behest. Do you really believe that EB is in a better position to win a championship now than he would have been had he stayed? If so, by what logic? If not , what could Falks motives have been to see EB move?

Great points!

Aside from being closer to home, EB did not get a better deal, and is no closer to a ring now.

And not only that

The move is confusing since the Sixers have Jason Smith and Marresse Speights on their roster. I still don’t really get why Philly was so adamant on doing this deal unless they believe Smith and Speights are 2 years away from contributing (at which time FElton is 31 years old, and not far away from his prime).

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get tangled, you tango on

Didn't say I believe anyone

I believe that EB believes that. And he didn’t want to play for the Clippers.

Get Real

Corey, mind your business. I don’t believe Elton at all. If we could’ve signed Elton right away, we would’ve. We tried and he gave a verbal agreement. Then he left town, stopped answering phone calls and the rest is history. Don’t compare this situation to the Wizards wrapping up Gilbert and Antawn right away. We tried. Brand was clearly wanted here.
