Yes, Camby is more redundant on a team that already has a legit center in Chris Kamen, Teams would be smart to try to run on a Clips team that sports a front line of Kamen/Camby/Thornton with the defensively challenged Baron Davis at the point and perhaps rookie Eric Gordon on the wing. But here's a trade proposal I think would be great for both clubs: Camby and Cuttino Mobley to the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion. The Matrix would be a perfect fit between Kamen and Thorton, provide Davis and Gordon (and Thorton) with a dyamite running mate, and be the jack of defenders he was in Phoenix. Granted, Marion's weird unhappiness with the perfect situation he was given in Phoenix, and at an inflated salary, is troubling in terms of him being a veteran leader in LA, and a contract agreement (or a sign and trade after an extension by Miami) would have to be worked out. But with Davis/Marion/Kamen as your nucleus and Eric Gordon and perhaps Deandre Jordan in your future, the Clips could make some noise in the tough Western Conference.

This author’s credibility suffers some in that he doesn’t spell Kaman’s name right.
Marion was certainly discussed around here, but in order for him to be successful in the Western Conference as an undersized PF, he’d need to be in a system like he had in Phoenix – and I think we’re all dubious that MDsr will really, really run, as much as we hope he will.

Interesting post
Steve – don’t you think that MDSr really has to run with BD running the team? I would consider that trade if you could get Marion to resign for less money for three to four years. Why not?

Thought I replied to this earlier...
I must not have hit the post button or some such.
Even with Camby and not Marion, the team will be most effective running. With Camby, he rebounds and starts the break. With Marion, he rebounds, starts, and finishes. But Marion requires the high pace to be most effective, whereas Camby does not. It’s a leopard/spots thing for me with MDsr on this one. I’ll believe that he’ll have them play uptempo when I see it.
Beyond that, the Marion rental concerns me as well. His contract is not synced up with Mobley and Thomas, so either you have to re-sign him (and take away 2010 flexibility) or you’re back looking for a PF next summer. And don’t forget that Mobley is penciled in as the starting 2.
Finally, I’m assuming that the Clippers floated a Marion offer to Miami before when they were looking at Randolph and Camby. Obviously, that didn’t work out. Is it possible that Miami would want Camby more than the cap space the Clippers could have offered before? Maybe.
Would I consider this deal? Yes, I would consider it. It’s intriguing, and I think the team would be better next season. But for several other reasons, I don’t think I would do it. But it’s a reasonable deal, and a reasonable person might well pull the trigger.
