Warriors Sign Mo Evans = Azubuike to Clips?

BaronorBust found this article over at the ESPN Clippers board, and I thought it was worth reposting here.  Wikipedia also reflects this information, for what that is worth:

http://www.pe.com/sports/breakout/stories/PE_Sports_Local_W_camby_22.19ec753.html

The Warriors have until Friday to match the offer, but two NBA sources said they will not because they signed forward Maurice Evans, who split time between the Lakers and Orlando last season, to a three-year, $6.4 million deal.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

over on GSoM…almost to the T….good find though. Weird that this info is coming out of the Press Enterprise and no one else…and so late too…
I would have to say that if it is true, then Buike is a Clipper for sure now.

Mistwell!

Nicely done, old friend.

Good news—hard to see how they would match on Bukie after this. But why Evans? Playing for the minimum? 6.4 is less than 10.

Kelenna should definitely be a Clipper now

In addition to the Evans signing, one of the beat writers for for W’s wrote that he talked to Azubuike and Kelenna’s comments made him feel that he had one foot out the door already and that if there had been talks of GS matching then his attitude would have been different. It looks like Baron got his preferred backcourt mate. I’m excited!!

BTW.. Kelenna was the leading scorer in the DLeague at 26pts/gm and shot 44% from 3 pt range there when he was called up and then shot 43% from 3pt range his rookie year with GS. His 3pt% only dipped to 36% last season because he couldn’t get lift off his sore knee. I expect he will be back to a 40+% 3pt shooter now that his knee has healed. :)

A few things about Buike

Very solid and efficient offensive player. Averaged less than a turnover a game, would like to see him become a better passer though (less than an assist per game). He should be closer to 3.5ast/40minutes if he’s going to see more time at SG.

Kaman and Thornton have poor assist numbers too, so hopefully they all learn to swing the ball around to the best shot or at least improve in that category.

I'm not convinced it's true...

Has anyone seen anything other than Turner’s PE reference to this Evans thing? The Wikipedia update may have come from there, but it doesn’t include a link. There’s nothing on Warriors.com, nothing on NBA.com. I’m very dubious.

If it’s true, it’s pretty clear Buike will be a Clipper. If nothing else, the Dubs are running out of room on the roster.

There is the PE link...

and another link here…
Mo Link
but that article just references the PE again…
and ESPN refers to the PE article as well in their rumors section.
I am still skeptical about the whole thing so far. If it’s true though…then its time to figure out what number Buike wants to wear….I hope it’s not 23…:P

Echo Chamber

Let’s hope the story is right. For the team’s odds of getting Buike, and for the sake of the reputation of the Riverside Press Enterprise (such as it is). But does anyone else find it strange that the PE is the only paper in the country that has this story? When was the last time the 909 was on the leading edge of anything? (Sorry Citizens from the IE, I couldn’t resist.)

Warriors may add Maurice Evans
Golden State would likely allow Azubuike to join Clippers
Wire services
Article Last Updated: 07/23/2008 11:24:47 AM PDT

On the heels of adding point guard Marcus Williams, the Warriors could be adding free agent forward Maurice Evans, who played for both the Lakers and Magic last season.
Golden State has offered Evans a three-year, $6.4 million deal, but after initially agreeing to the terms, Evans is reportedly holding out for more money from the Warriors.

If they added Evans, it more than likely means the Warriors will not match the three-year, $9 million contract restricted free agent Kelenna Azubuike signed with the Los Angeles Clippers last week. Golden State has until Friday to match Azubuike’s deal, but Evans represents a cheaper _ and perhaps better _ alternative.

In Evans, the Warriors would be getting an athletic swingman who’s known as a solid defender and good 3-point shooter (he shot 39% on 3-pointers last season). The 6-foot-5 Evans averaged 9.3 points per game in 68 games for Orlando in 2007-08. He came to Orlando with Brian Cook in a November trade with the Los Angeles Lakers that sent Trevor Ariza to Southern California.

The 29-year-old Evans, who has played five seasons in the NBA, has also played with the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings.

Come on Mo, just sign already!

Thanks

At least it makes a little more sense now. They thought they had a deal, but they’re still haggling over the price, which is why there’s been nothing official.

Looks like Mo is holding out for more money…if he does, then Golden State will match on Azubuike because he’s younger and has more upside. Another dastardly ex-Lakers sabotaging our Clips plans! Maybe Mo is coordinating with Mitch Kupchak to screw the Clips…all part of the purple and gold secret plan to rule this town for all eternity.

Good news for you...

I know that the Evans deal hasn’t gone through, but I just wanted to let you know that from what I hear the Buike bridge may have been burned. There is still a chance that the W’s will match but they are working hard to find other options. I think it’s pretty safe to say Buike will be in a Clips uni next year. I’ll be sad to see him go, but I’m trying to get myself used to the idea…

Hope you're right

It does seem that the Warriors are working pretty hard on everything but Buike (Marcus Williams, Mo Evans, etc.)

Re Mo Evans backing out

Per article in Hoopsworld, Mo Evans backed out of the GS deal but the two sides are still negotiating.

from espn...

The Clippers are still awaiting word from Golden State on whether they’ll match the offer sheet they signed restricted free agent Kelenna Azubuike to last week. Late Tuesday night, the Warriors had reached an agreement with former Laker Maurice Evans on a three-year, $6.4 million deal. Soon afterward though, the deal unraveled a bit as Evans decided to hold out for more money.

If Evans signs with the Warriors, Golden State would likely let Azubuike go, according to a source. If not, they were more likely to match the Clippers offer.

Evan holding out for more money is going to screw us.

Huge downgrade

C’mon Evans. Take the $6M and get out of the way.

Also....

Warriors vice president Chris Mullin said Wednesday that the signing of a wing player essentially would end the team’s whirlwind offseason and complete the roster. In a 25-minute talk, Mullin said a decision on Kelenna Azubuike is a “Friday thing,” admitted pursuing Maurice Evans and treaded around the idea that the summer workings could be done.

“We’re having dialogue with a few people, and (Evans) is one of them,” said Mullin, who said that a wing signing would fill the roster. Evans and Azubuike “are similar players, as are the other guys” with whom the Warriors are talking. “That one more guy would probably be it.”—San Francisco Chronicle
