Clippers Insider Releases Information
hehe. Im making it sound really "confidential" and "spy-like", but my friend's Clippers' representative has said that they are pursuing Ricky Davis and Bonzi Wells.
This is odd, but would suit the team well.
What do you guys think?
I mean WElls has always seemed to be a rumored Clipper incomer and Ricky Davis is a great player. I'd love to see these guys on our team..but wouldn't a trade be necessary to do this? The Rep. also said we have "money that we're willing to spend"
This is information from my Clippers' source: The Los Angeles Clippers are eagerly pursuing Bonzi Wells and Ricky Davis. This is odd to me, but I feel that it'd be great for the team. We'd have to trade for these two, wouldn't we? Please leave thoughts, and opinions. Not sure where this money is from unelss Sterling wants to go into the luxury tax zone. He also said from the point of Baron's signing to EB's departure, ticket sales sky rocketed and they nearly have a record of season ticket holders....note: BEFORE EB's departure. They also said that we would have a lot more fun this season. Just wanted to share! Bye

How many yucks?
They’re both knuckleheads. Do we really want EG and AT influenced by either of them? Just because we have money to spend doesn’t mean we have to spend it foollishly.

I'm in the minority
But I like Bonzi. Minus the attitude….he was great in Portland. And great in Sacramento. Had he not made a bonehead business decision, he would have a fat contract in Sacramento right now.
Ricky Buckets is alright. I’m not too sold on him. I honestly liked Ruben Patterson. Q is a good choice too. I just worry about us scoring. So maybe Ricky Buckets is a good choice.

Bonzi
If they can get him for the remaining cap its a huge coup.
Or for Tim Thomas in S&T? Less good, but still pretty good.

I like Bonzi but (aside from personality) R Davis would seem to fill a bigger need
Bonzi is a great rebounding guard, and a good defender, but not a great outside shooter. Without having reviewed their statistics, I suspect that Ricky is a better three point shooter and gets more assists.
I’d take both though.

How about Steve Francis?
Can we get him for a conditional second round pick as well? :)

It all depends...
It’s hard to say what the market for Ricky Davis or Bonzi Wells is. Would either of them sign for the $2.5M to $3M the Clippers can offer? I’m assuming that’s what we’re talking about – no reason to go into S&T territory for two such damaged FA’s.
Having said that, Ricky Davis would be, dare I say, perfect from a sheer basketball standpoint. Dude can score, plays the 2 or the 3, shoots the long ball. Maybe it’s because he’s always killed the Clippers, but my impression of him is that he’s a very talented player. At less than $3M per, he seems like a steal.
Bonzi would also be welcome at that price, but he’s a less good fit. However, with MDsr’s prior experience with him, not to mention the coach’s love of post ups and iso’s, you can see why Bonzi would be on the radar.

Inspiration on the 405
How about this…
Mobley/the Minny 1st/$3M cash for Bonzi S&T for 2 years + Team option (3 total) at $6.5M per flat. Total salary burden is reduced for the Clippers for 2 years. Bonzi gets a fair salary. NO gets Mobley at a reduced price plus a 1st rounder.
This reduces the Clippers’ salary burden by 2.5M. This is combined with the remaining 2.5M-ish, providing for almost a full MLE range offer to Davis. Contract is for 1 year + 1 player option year at a max raise.
I trade Mobley instead of Thomas for the salary reduction and better positional fit post-acquisitions.
I only do the trade if I am certain Davis will accept the contract offer.
The two contracts do not damage the 2010 plan. The team option on Bonzi’s contract is strictly for trading purposes. If a team prefers the asset to cap space, it leaves the option open.

Salaries
Well,
Davis signed for about 6.8 million last season, so he seems unlikely to take such a large paycut.
Wells would seem more willing as he signed for $2.1 million last year.
Sorry, we are the BEST team in LA!

Do we really need
Bonzi or Davis? Why don’t we just try to trade Thomas for John Salmons. I Would rather have Salmons than those two. If I’m correct, I believe Thomas 2008 salary is $5,632,200 and Salmons is $4,752,000. I don’t know much about how contracts work but would that trade work??? I would rather trade Cat for Salmons but I believe Mobleys contract is more than Tims, correct?

What do you guys think? I would also like to suggest the Clips pick up Andre Brown from Memphis. He’s a cheap free agent who played very well at the end of last season and can put up some nice double doubles given enough minutes. Take a look at his stats from the last four games he played last season.
