ClipperBlog gives John R a nod

The timing of the last couple of weeks has been more than a little unsettling for Clipper fans.  Beginning the week on Monday June 23 we were getting psyched up for the draft, thinking that Gordon would be a pretty good pick, and trying to figure out how the Clips could possibly get a point guard.  For AT3 the week got off to a bad start, and he was taken off the Clipper beat that he had covered for the last 10 years.

The pressure was still on after the Clips made the Gordon pick, as we worked through the available PGs down to the last detail, fighting off Miami's designs on EB all the while.  Then the BD thunderbolt hit, and the Clipperworld was turned upside down.  When there's an earthquake, you want news and analysis.  In the first few days it was mostly a matter of sorting out the essentials, but then there was a pause, and no announcement of Brand closing his deal with the Clippers.  AT3 was out of business, and his reassignment showed that very few people care enough about the Clippers to be knowledgable.

ClipperBlog is a great spot with some very good writing and insights.  But the burden of exhaustive coverage of the Clippers has fallen on ClipperSteve and ClipsNation.  Truehoop still routinely links to Clipperblog, which is nice.  And so it was nice to see Clipperblog provide a link to John R's classic Phase Two post.

KA writes:

"My most cynical sense is that Brand's initial posture -- "Show me you're serious about winning, and I'll stay" -- was based on his belief that the Clippers would never be able to attract the talent to demonstrate their seriousness, which, in turn, would give him cover to walk.  But when the Clips landed Baron Davis, it left Brand in the awkward position of having to either live by his word -- and forfeit $20M -- or leave and break his tacit commitment.

Again, this is the least generous read on the situation.  The more hopeful one is...hopefully...more likely.  And the best case scenario is here."

Best case scenario indeed.  And still we wait.
