Looks like DMiles is back in the league. Makes you wonder if Shaun Livingston is next to sign.

Let's hope he plays 10 games

The C’s are doing the Western Conference a huge favor if Miles actually gets into 10 games. Portland, with all their young talent and all that cap space, could be a powerhouse. If Miles contract goes back on their books (his medical retirement will be rescinded if he plays in 10 games) it makes a difference for the rest of the West. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Way to go Doc and Danny!

That's interesting...

So the Celtics pick him up at minimum? I assume he still gets his old salary, but if he’s retired, it doesn’t go against Portland’s cap? Is it one of those situations where he gets paid twice?

Here's my understanding

Miles was always going to get paid his old salary out of Portland’s (deep, Microsoft-y Paul Allen) pockets. But by having a doctor declare him a medical retiree, it triggered a clause whereby the money would not count against the salary cap. But DMiles doesn’t agree with the doctor who says he can’t play, so he goes and works out for other teams. His Boston contract is for the min, and is contingent on him making the team. If he makes the team and appears in 10 games (over a couple of seasons I think), then the NBA says “Sorry Portland, your doctor lied, he wasn’t a medical retiree, so he counts on your cap.”
