New Blog: Five For Howling - for Coyotes fans Bar-right-arrows

Dear Jason Williams,

Welcome to Clippers Nation. We Clippers fans are happy to have you. We hope you come inspired to win as we have endured a lot of losing over the years......kinda like the shifty season you and Ricky had to endure last year in South Beach.(except lots of years of it)

No pressure is on you to be the man in LA, as this is Baron's team to lead. We will expect you to bring a supportive attitude and to give it your all when called upon. I personally will expect you to make every 3 you jack up this year. (ok- I am just kidding, you can miss one)

As a champion- may I request that you show off your ring often to the other players on the team in hopes to give them a vision of the ultimate goal. Not that we expect you to bring us a championship. We would happily settle for a team of "Cagey"(minus the curl activator) veterans who all bonded under the notion of having something to prove to themselves and made the playoffs with a chip on their shoulders.

Cheers!

Cage References

I don’t get all the Michael Cage referfences. We drafted Cage as the 14th player in the 84 draft. He did not come to the Clippers as a vet. but yeah, he was a damn hard worker. Also, he was signed in 84 for 215,000.00 per year. Man have the times changed or what?

As for JWill, I do not share your welcome. He has never proven himself to be a leader or a high calibre player in the NBA. He should have gone to Tel Aviv. Rant over.

I think, with out question...

that anyone here would rather have had JWill last year instead of both Dickau AND BKnight. Now, the Clips have JWill as a BACKUP to the 2nd or 3rd best PG in the league. No complaints here. I look forward to seeing this newly revamped Clipper team.

Clearly

JWill wins out over Little Danny Dickau or Brevin Knight; on that I agree. I do not agree that picking up JWil is a good move. If BD goes down to injury our starting PG is Hart or JWill and that isn’t taking us to the playoffs. Look, I love what the Clips have done this year up until Novak and JWill. I continue to assert that we should have gone after Pargo as the number 2 PG. If The Donald had to spend a little more money to get Pargo, so be it. If this team wants to make the playoffs, then they should have targeted Pargo cause the Hornets seem to have lost interest in him.

I am being realistic when I say that I cannot imagine that the Clippers will be a major contender in the 2010 Free Agent Spree. The history of this francise seems to drive players away and whether FElton was the cause or not, that whole situation continues to be a dark cloud that hangs over the franchise. MDsr did a good job in the media, but let’s face it, the Star FA’s are probably not going to want to come to the Clippers. LBJ as a Clipper? I don’t see it. DWade as a Clipper? I don’t see it. I wish and hope that I am wrong, and only time will tell, but I don’t think I am. If BD knew that FElton was leaving, do you really think he would have agreed to sign with the Clippers? I don’t.

Yes but we can offer more money

And we all know nothing talks more then money. Unless we make a move before hand we could have $30 million to spend on whoever. And if we make the playoffs this year or next year that would help lure players even more.

by bestclipfan on Aug 8, 2008 9:21 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I can understand why you'd want Pargo...

But I don’t understand how you expect to get him under the cap. And the way I understand it, they can only go over the cap by signing their own players or via a trade or to fill out a roster with minimum contracts. They can’t go over for a free agent. Unless you wanted to sign Pargo before R. Davis. But… they needed a backup wing more than they needed a third pg. This doesn’t have anything to do with not being willing to spend money or saving money for 2010.
The other thing is that ten year vet rule, which I’ll admit I don’t understand. Which makes guys like Skinner and Williams even cheaper. Cheaper than guys with only a year or two in the league. But I might have that wrong.

by swamigusto on Aug 8, 2008 9:36 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

See this is where we disagree...

First, Pargo is NOT the answer, and would cost WAY too much to get him. He is definitely not a min contract guy and does NOT want a one or two year deal. I would rather sink my money into 2 or 3 players for 2 years or less than tie up that same $$ in a career backup pg. Thats just me though.
Second, you mention the history of the Clips in attracting FA’s, and yes, there is history…but history is meant to be broken, as is cleary evident by this year alone! If Baron Davis did NOT want to be a Clipper, he could have just as easily backed out of his agreement once he found out about the FElton defection. So I don’t buy the whole “it’s the clippers” arguement. And, as citizen bestclipfan mentions, money talks…
Also, 2010 isn’t just about the FA’s either. There will be a myriad of opportunities for trades as well. This takes the whole FA thing out the window.
And finally, winning solves everything, and if the Clips make a huge push this year with what they have, that makes the team even that more attractive.
All in all, I think the Clippers are doing what they can right now to win, but at the same time not mortgaging the future, which is nice….2010 is the year, but this team can make some serious noise this year as well.

Things have changed alot since 84

But I remember growing up in the late 80s and early 90s before cable was as common and back then you could only watch games on the weekend after Christmas unless it was the Clippers on KTLA or the Lakers on KCAL. Now that they have big TV deals the players can make alot more.

That said, I think 215k adjusted to inflation isn’t too far off what a late 1st rounder makes these days. They had few teams back then (I’m guessing about 24?).

I'm ok...

with JWill for one year… but as an Asian season ticket holder, there is a bit of concern….

On Feb. 28, Jason Williams, a point guard for the Sacramento Kings, shouted racial and anti-gay slurs to Ching, a Warriors’ season ticket holder, and to several other Asian Americans seated beside Ching during a Warriors game at the Oakland Arena. As recounted by a letter Ching sent to NBA commissioner David Stern, Williams retaliated against harmless heckling made by Ching and his party midway through the first half.
According to Ching, he told Williams, "Get used to sitting on the bench."
Williams responded, "Are you gy? Are you a fg?"
An angered Williams then pelted Ching with expletives, at one point defaming him as a "slant-eyed motherf*r."
Williams then pretended with his hands to shoot a machine gun toward Ching and the others, yelling, "I will shoot all you Asian motherf
*rs," while imitating machine gun sounds.
And it didn’t stop there.
Yelling expletives with almost uncontrollable rage, Williams again directed his mock-machine gun at the crowd and cried out, "Do you remember the Vietnam War, I’ll kill y’all just like that. Just like Pearl Harbor, do you remember that?"

LOL

I’m Chinese and those quotes actually crack me up. Ignorant Chocolate, he is. I won’t feel too guilty screaming “don’t ever shoot!!” at him now.

Too many guards ?

Is it me, or do the Clippers now seem to be going overboard at the guard spot ?

I’ve thought of Williams as the guy not afraid to take the big shot, but its an even money bet if it goes in or doesn’t even hit the rim…

Dear Jason Williams....

Dear Jason Williams~

Pat Riley castrated you long ago. You used to be sick and pass the ball off your elbow and throw it off Vlades face at least once a week. I remember a man they called “White Chocolate” who went around the back 3 times in a row before hooking in a floater from the free throw line. That was rad. I hope your return to California re-awakens you. And you go and buy a new set of huevos cheap-style in Mexico. Because i want to see another elbow pass god-dammit that SH!+ was ill! I really think Baron will give you the swagger back that you lost the first time Shaq referred to you as his “minion”.

P.S ~ Dont list to Dunleavy. Listen to Baron.

I am Greg Oden, i am goingz to be trade to The Warrior. hoooray.

Warriors for life. Raiders till death. And The A's when i get free tickets.

Dear White Chocolate,

Listen to the MaDD Sientist if you want to return to your glory years. Maybe your boy Randy Moss will show up for a game this season…
