Livy let go ... Lets get him back
Shaun Livingston was released by the Miami heat. Considering our problems at the point it would be great to get him back. It's a perfect year to rehab since we are already out of playoff contention. He wouldn't cost much. It's just a question of whether he wants to come back to L.A., but his options are probably limited.
I think we should take a chance on him. What have we got to lose?

Bring him back…Shaun deserves to finish his career with the Clippers. No matter how it ends.

Hell Yeah
You beat to the punch on starting this post.
I would be all for him coming back, but you really have to wonder if there is any animosity or stubborness from MDsr or the Don.
I mean we offered this guy a two year guarantted deal (correct me if I’m wrong please) and he didn’t accept it. And you look where he is now.
Do we call it karma?
But leaving the past where it is (in the past) I would be excited if we got him for the rest of the season. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. It would be a good 3 guard rotation – BDiddy, Taylor and Livingston (I just don’t see Hart giving us much).
But are we also taking on an injury prone player to add to our already growing injury list? Due diligence would be required to see if he is capable of playing 20+ minutes each night. Can his knee handle it?
Thoughts comments?

Clips need to pass
on resigning Livy. As much as I loved the “potential” this guys had, it is just not there any more, well not this year anyway. If he is still available next year, then, yes, maybe the Clips take a look at him again. But I think this year is out of the question. Guy can’t even play 20 minutes in a game yet. I think it’s a little foolish to think he will even be able to contribute ANYTHING this year. I say pass.

Contributing this year...
I’m not sure if we’re looking for meaningful contributions this year from Shaun…because this season is for all intents and purpose, over. We will have to go like 42-7 the rest of the way in order to get to 50 wins and make the 8th spot in the West. The only way we can do that is if we add Lebron and Kobe. But with Jasen Powell as our trainer, both those guys would suffer career ending ACL tears in a single week. So now it’s about building the team for next season and seeing how the pieces fit. It doesn’t hurt to bring Shaun in now and see how much game he has left, both mental and physical, and see how guys like Gordon and Thornton can play with a pass first point guard. Why wait until next season to rebuild? The sooner we start the rebuilding mode, the faster we can get out of this hell hole.

I just think
that if the Clippers are in a rebuilding mode (which I don’t believe they are), why pick up a guy who will not even play this year? Why not just wait until next year? Odds are that no one will have picked him up yet. Plus, I don’t buy the whole “rebuilding” idea as it is. If, and I know its a big if, everyone is healthy, this team has legitimate NBA starters at every position, with another one coming off the bench (Camby or Kaman I would assume). Clips need guys who can play now, and Livy doesn’t fit that bill, thats all.

the record...
Well even if everyone were healthy we will have to go 43-6 now to get to 50 wins…which seems to be the minimum number to compete for the 8th seed in the West. Mathematically that’s almost impossible, even the Celtics or the Lakers with their loaded roster probably can’t win 87% of their games for four months (that’s a higher percentage than the Jordanaire’s Bulls 70 wins season). So for all intents and purposes, this season is over and we have to rebuild for next year and for the future.

Dusting Off My Jersey!
Awesome. Let’s trade for Q and Maggette, too! I bet Philly would give us back EB for a cheesesteak, the ability to swap 8th round picks and some change from my sofa.
We could have:
Livingston at PG
Quentin Richardson at SG
Corey Maggette at SF
Elton Brand at PF
Chris Kaman at C
Dunleavy’s DREAM TEAM!
All we have to do is trade Baron, Camby, Gordon, Thornton & Jordan and waive everyone else.
Then we’ll have room to sign Darius Miles and maybe get Earl Boykins back from Europe!
Now how do we get Lamar and Vlad Rad back from the Lakers…..Hmmmmm
Should we go for Jason Powell too?

Hah,
Yeah, why does everyone think that we’re dying to trade for former Clippers who we don’t like?! I get that we’re the Clippers, but it’s not like we’re taking any deal so that we can help out a possible contender. What’s this, trickle up economics?

Re Livingston
The real question is opportunity cost. Barring an injury exception from the league (unlikely) the Clippers have one roster spot to play with. And with Jason Hart still hurting, they have exactly 2 healthy guards on the roster, neither one of them a real point guard.
So one argument says sign Livingston because your familiar with him and he has more upside the alternatives like Eddie Gill and Troy Hudson. But the other argument says whoever gets signed needs to be able to play now to provide some rest for the weary backcourt.
I do believe he has more upside than the available alternatives, but I think my bias for Livingston’s potential has been pretty clear over the years. I’m sure MDsr has been on the phone with Liv’s agent.

How about......
I know alot of Citizens of Clipper Nation may not be supportive of this, but would we be against trying to bring back Marko Jaric?
He wasn’t terrible, and he is now stuck on the bench in Memphis (unless he’s injured and I’m unaware of this).
I think he sounds alot better than any of the other guys that attended the beauty pageant in Phoenix last week.
Clipper Steve – Whats his contract status? Can we afford him?

He makes a lot
Unless Memphis buys him out, which I’ve not heard as a possibility, he won’t be joining the Clippers.

But.....
Consider Memphis have 4 PG’s – Lowry, Conely Jnr, Jaric & Francis (who is due back any day).
Surely we could arrange some deal where Memphis pays the bulk of his salary for us?
Any other teams with 4 PG’s who may be up for a trade with us?

Not allowed
There are trade exceptions that allow for the Samb deal – minimum player for a draft pick, something like that… I forget exactly. But you can’t trade a guy making $7M for nothing – you have to send back $6M to $8M in salary. There’s almost literally no way for the Clippers to get Marko (not that they would want to) within the rules. Memphis would have to buy him out and make him a free agent.

Gee, wouldn't Jason Williams help out right about now?
I remember kinda thinking “whatever” to Williams’ sudden retirement, but we could sure use him right now. Nothing goes right for us, does it?
