why do these people hate the lottery system

and their excuse for it is because it puts good rookies on bad teams….isn’t that the whole point….to make bad teams better. Lets just put the top 5 picks on playoff teams that was the Celtics and Lakers will never have a bad team

That confused me too

If you don’t want to see good rookies on bad teams, isn’t that exactly the reason to have a lottery system? If it were like every other sport, the team with the worst record gets the best pick and so on down the line. Basketball (because of the lottery system) is the only sport that there is a chance that a San Antonio could end up with Duncan.

That whole point is pretty off.

I’ve someone else locally on the radio that once pretty much the same thing that Simmons explained, dulcius. The problem is ultimately GMs just pick guys who are often the wrong fits. Griffin is a versatile enough player where he fits in here extremely well. Dunleavy has built this team to have plenty of balance, and this is probably the most balance Clipper team at least since he’s been here.

I know a lot of people don’t Simmons’ columns, but I often enjoy them. It’s a bit easier to follow as long as you’re up on pop culture. At least he’s trying to amusing in fun way, unlike that jackass T.J. Simers, who cracks on people at their expense.

I gotta say it...

I know Simmons is a fair-weather Clipper fan and has needlessly heaped vitriol on a team whose games he attends regularly. I know he is first and foremost a Celtic fan, and maybe worse a Red Sox fan. I hate Boston. It looks nice but the place is full of rich college kids, bigoted blue collar schmucks, and smug, provincial white collar twerps. I hate the teams. But Simmons is seriously funny. The funniest sportswriter out there. I don’t think anyone comes close. There. I said it. I HATE it, but it’s true. He’s cocky. He’s a jerk. But he’s funny.

yeah that kind of ruined his credibility

you can talk yourself into the other picks (even Utah at 3…well, maybe), and for the most part they’re refreshing b/c he’s thinking outside the box, unlike all the other boring sportswriters. But Portland is not finishing .500, even if they do take a step back.
