Timberwolves trading rights to Rubio?
There's not much proff this is real other than Yahoo rumors reporting in but there source is not stating it's confirmed but still, wouldn't be suprising with Flynn looking to control the team and not having any room for Rubio on the roster.
The Minnesota Timberwolves spent a lot of time and money trying to get Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio to come play for them after the team drafted him fifth overall this past summer. Team bigwig David Kahn flew over to Spain a few times and tried to work out some sort of crazy buyout but obviously nothing ever worked out and Rubio is now playing for FC Barcelona.
Rubio is still saying he wants to play in the NBA someday. Presumably that's what he intended when he declared himself for this year's draft, too, and that didn't seem to work out. The Wolves aren't bothering themselves to picture him in their jersey anytime soon and it appears that the team will try and trade the rights to the guard before next year's NBA draft, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
It isn't expected that the team would get much in return on such a deal since most teams that have any interest in Rubio (read: the New York Knicks) don't want to get involved in any long-term contract negotiations before the free-agent signing period starts next summer when the All-Star buffet opens up for NBA general managers.

MD loved this kid and would of certainly picked him first if not for the dominanting play of BG. Now with the Wolves possibly looking to trade the rights to Ricky, I'd imagine MD will be all over this. BD looks like he's going to need a replacement sooner rather than later and Ricky defintely brings the playmaking ability that would compliment our young and promising core.
How exciting to have Rubio, Gordon, and Griffin on the same team!
That's one deadly young core.

Uh...
“MD loved this kid and would of certainly picked him first if not for the dominanting play of BG.”
???? Really?
Actually, that’s fine. Give Minny back the pick they owe us and call it a day. He can come over when he stops signing stupid contracts with huge buyouts in Europe.
If you read the source article...
there’s only one little line that Mike J. Miller took and ran with.
There seems little doubt that the Timberwolves will end up trading rights to Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio before next year’s NBA draft.
I wouldn’t really put my hopes into it at this point. It is certainly possible, especially if Flynn proves to be their definite pg of the future. I’d give them their pick back, but not much else. The year that he decides to come over is the year that we are likely to receive their unprotected pick. Marko Jaric & Lionel Chalmers for Sam Cassell and Ricky Rubio makes that trade even more lopsided.
Pass
Rubio is the Michelle Kwan/Freddie Adu of basketball.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
Where are these opinions coming from?
I know we really didn’t debate Rubio’s status much going into the draft since Griffin was a foregone conclusion, but why are some so low on Rubio? I’ll admit, I think he’s a stud from watching all of 1 game; the US/Spain game in the Olympics last year when he went toe to toe with the absolutely loaded US lineup. So that’s basically my only opinion on him. For those of you low on him; why?
I’d love to trade for him, but I’m curious as to what I may be missing.
Thanks

Besides being way overhyped
He can’t shoot. You have to be able to shoot to be a successful NBA guard.
But besides that, the fact is that nobody knows much about him. He is way overhyped. He can never live up to it.
LeBron James is the exception to the hype rule. He actually exceeded expectations. Never thought he would be this good.
Do not worry. (Matthew 6:27)
TJ Ford
came into the league not being a great shooter. He’s not fairly well. (Not great, but decent.)
Beginning of his career, I dont remmeber Rondo being a good shooter at all. He’s developed very nicely.
Speedy Claxton has his ups and downs.
Russel Westbrook can’t really shoot the ball. Mostly known as a player who penetrates.
The point is, players can develope their shooting skills. Rubio holds pretty true point guard skills. But your right, people have overhyped Rubio and agreed that players need a more overall game, or else they could wind up like Sebastian Telfair. Great at passing, but with no shooting skills, he becomes pretty predictable…
Pass +1
I think he will be a bust. He doesn’t have the NBA body frame. Also, it needs to be noted that the level of talent and competition is heads and shoulders above international basketball. I haven’t seen the Spanish league, but I saw some Greek professional teams play when I was travelling. It was garbage.
I would think of Rubio as a poor poor man’s Shaun Livingston.

What's the downside?
We clearly need a PG of the future behind Baron, Bassy is good but lacks starpower. We give Minny their pick back, plus a certain Ricky Davis if we can, and I’d consider that trade a win, win…win. Sterling has to love the international appeal the Clippers would get, as well.

If that is the trade
you are right, it is certainly a no-brainer.

I'm thinking Minny can get more
But I would give them their pick back for him.

I agree
but I kind of want to wait also…
The way Minny’s rebuilding, it could take them 2012 and beyond. We might just have ourselves another 1st pick from them.
If David Kahn is truly offered an even do-over atfering blowing the 5th pick, I would have to believe he takes it. But then again, if MIN had any common sense KG wouldn’t have wasted his prime there.

Remember a guy named Yaroslav Koralev ??
MDleavy was really high on him too. He didn’t last too long in the NBA. We need someone who can score and play defense.
Different case scenario
Dunleavy’s pick on Koralev was completely different. If I remember correctly. some picks had Koralev moved as high as the 20th pick (and up.) The only reason Koralev got drafted that low was because of Dunleavy’s love for international players. Rubio was projected to go #1 or #2, but when Blake started to dominate college, Rubio was projected to go #2.. then came Rubio’s desired location to play, and then the question of when he’ll finally play in the nba.
narrow minded american bias at it's finest
Two completely different player

Seriously
You mean the fact that Koralev and Rubio are both European doesn’t mean they both suck?
