Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Gordon will miss a minimum of ten days with the sore left groin he suffered in the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ 113-110 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on November 7th.
In seven games played this season, Gordon has averaged 18.9 points, 4.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 38.4 minutes per game.
CLIPPERS: Eric Gordon Injury Update
So obviously this is bad news. I suppose it could be worse - it could be longer than 10 days (although that's the minimum, so for all we know it will be longer than that). The team has been basically moribund sans Gordon this season, getting outscored by an astounding 30 points per 100 possessions without him on the court. If the plan was to take advantage of the weak November competition to remain above .500 until Blake Griffin's return, that task just got a lot tougher with Gordon now missing at least 6 more games in addition to last night's debacle. Missing two starters is bad enough - the fact that it's the two 20 year old cornerstones of the future is worse.

I kind of expected this
"Where would the Clippers be without Sean Rooks?"

This isnt great but we don't want to get back into the same
old posts on this thread with self pity on “how it always happens to us”.
There are a lot of top players picking up injuries this season, not only on our team so we just need to roll with the punches. It’s an opportunity for other players to show what they are made of.
Having Rasual play a little at the 2 with Al at the 3 will give us a big, if not quick lineup. Kaman, Camby, Thornton, Butler with Baron at the 1 gives us one of the biggest starting lineups in the league.
We’ll get through this and mustn’t forget. This year isn’t about winning the NBA title. It’s about trying to take another step towards becoming a playoff and ultimately a contending team.
These things happen. It’s a sore left groin, not a mangled ACL!!!!
Bingo! Oh me oh my!

Hey Lawlers
I missed last nights game and I’ve not been impressed with Al so far this year but I think he’s still in a bit of a sulk from being dropped to the bench. Remember last year when Sterling called him out and he played awesome for the next 5-6 games. I’m hoping being put back in the starting lineup will be the challenge he needs to pick his game up again because, damn, he needs it.
I just don’t want to read another huge load of pesimistic Clipper Curse posts (you know better MadGlove!!!)

I think so, new players need a new coaching/Training/Handlers staff.
time for an Upgrade and to clean house, every last one of them.

Big blow
I have to say, after all the positive energy and optimism coming into this season from lucking into the Blake Griffin sweepstakes, this season has been pretty rough thus far.
Bad enough we lose our best new addition the freaking day before the season starts, but now we’ve lost the other half of the future as well. It’s kind of crazy.
What’s most disappointing is that we all knew (well at least most of us did) that it would take a lot going right for us, and some things going wrong for other teams in the west (for once) for the Clips to be a playoff team. Instead, it’s been business as usual, with a lot going wrong with this team.
Hate to sound all doom and gloom, but I’ll be shocked if this team is in the playoff hunt come April. I’m guessing AT BEST EJ and Griffin will be healthy and we’ll be talking about how nice it would be to add a John Wall to that combo.

Look on the bright side....
…can’t say about the future…but as of right now….
our record was better than it was last year.
I wouldn’t mind John Wall either hahahah.

Hey I'd love John Wall
But as I’m sure you know, it’s just tiresome to have yet another year’s hopes dashed by injuries.
Plus, the chances of winning the lottery back to back are considerably unlikely. And it’s not like the Clips are a charmed franchise.

C'mon man
You are a realist. We aren’t the only team with injury problems. Crikey, if I was a Wizards fan, I’d be wondering who I’d hurt in a previous life!!! Injuries have crippled us for the last 2 years but these aren’t serious or long term stuff so we’ll get by. Now pass me the Jack Daniels……
Bingo! Oh me oh my!

Same old story
It’s not like we’ve never struggled with injuries. It’s just one thing after another.
How is the Wizards situation any worse than ours? And their past definitely isn’t nearly as bad.

Meh. Orlando did it...
Shaq and C-Webb. At least MDSr. might actually recuse himself as coach soon…

So it's happened once in the history of the lottery
Is that supposed to be proof of something against what I said?
by madglove on Nov 10, 2009 5:09 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
The Magic one was remarkable too
as they had the lowest chance of winniing the lottery yet still won. They wanted a guard (Penny) to pair with Shaq instead of another big. I wonder what would have happened if Shaq and CWebb played together in their primes.
Each draft is a independent action, therefore the fact we won it last year has no bearing on our odds this year. If we have 10% of the ping pong balls then we have 10% chance of winning, its as simple as that.
That said let’s not jump off the cliff yet, the Clippers could still keep things afloat while EJ and BG are out. Let’s wait another few weeks before we jump.

We are being tested
At least we are a lot better than last year. We were even in the 7th spot of the western
conference for at least a day. Stay positive my friends>

Brutal News
There goes the season. If we were going to lose this year I at least wanted to be able to enjoy watching EJ and Blake.
Now we will just lose and watch guys like Ricky Davis and Butler jack up terrible shots.

That a whole other post, who is worst RDavis or RButler?

Ricky Davis is definitely worse
I don’t think the guy should be in the NBA. I would rather see Karim Rush out there.
Butler ends up scoring 10 or 15 a night, but his shot selection is terrible. I cringe every time he jacks up a shot.
by The Blake Griffin Era on Nov 10, 2009 10:04 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Butler's shot selection
I haven’t had an issue with his shot selection as he’s been hanging out on the perimeter and shooting in rhythm. Unfortunately he hasn’t connected a high percentage but I think they are pretty good looks. I wish he would drive to the basket from time to time when defenders are closing him out on the perimeter.

No idea
But this is what Chad Ford had to say about him today:
Wall isn’t super-athletic — he’s extraterrestrially athletic. He’s been compared to Derrick Rose, and truthfully, he’s even more explosive. While Wall doesn’t have Rose’s steadiness on or off the court, when you turn him loose, he’s virtually impossible to guard. Wall has the inside track on the No. 1 pick right now. Point guards with his physical abilities come along only two or three times a decade.
Gonna be watching a lot of UK games this season for sure.

btw
When I read that, I think “great, he’ll be rendered completely ineffective in Dunleavy’s system”…
by madglove on Nov 10, 2009 5:12 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
John wall would be good in any system
Isn’t anyone concerned that BD is in his best shape and yet not blowing by anybody? He doesn’t have a consistent jumper to keep his defender honest, every defender chooses to take away the lane. He’s not getting any younger and I doubt he keeps this shape throughout his contract.
by Qlippers on Nov 10, 2009 5:22 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Really?
Have you been watching? He definitely has shown the ability to blow by people, including CP3 last night on a few occasions.
The problem is that more often than not, the lane is clogged because Dunleavy’s system almost always has someone posting up inside (and for some reason he always sends a cutter through WHILE the post player is making his move).
And it’s Baron’s fault too, he just doesn’t seem to have the confidence to blow by his man and make the good decision. He frequently puts one move too many on his guy or looks out of control after he beats his man. None of these problems existed (at least with such frequency) before he got here. It’s really a mystery.

Ricky should start at 2, Butler back to 3.
don’t really have the patience to watch Thornton

This is sad
My brother pointed out the other day that Clippers is an anagram for Cripples.
The team is definitely cursed. Although it seems like there’s a disproportionate number of injuries already this year across the league, so the Clippers are not alone.
It also seems like there’s a disproportionate number of super high scoring games already this year – think the league told the refs to let the guys play to drum up more excitement to draw fans?

Draft Picks
Tyreke Evans looks like the front-runner for ROY right now, and Jason Thompson seems to be developing. They finally have something to be excited about.

What a pisser
Looking around here for a silver lining. If it’s really just 7 games, I’d be very happy to win 3 of them. Would somebody besides Chris and Baron please STEP UP!

He's out for the year.
I have nothing to confirm this fact, but I’ve been a Clippers fan long enough to know how these things play out.
Let’s start talking about the draft.
I've got nothing.

Slow down
This is another bad blow, but it’s crazy for people to start throwing in the towel and talking about the draft. There will be plenty of time for all of that later. A bad addition is the fact that Gordon sat out the last game against the Hornets and the team looked horrible, and gave up a bad blow-out loss on the home floor.
Six games is six games. Let’s not assume that it’s going to be longer. The drag is the fact that over the next ten days the Clips play so many games. It’s also unfortunate that so many of these are winnable games that would put the team in a good position and upswing before they head into a more challenging portion of the schedule.
I’d say that the thing to look at now is that for the rest of the month, every win counts in a big way. I worry about the team psychology taking a dip, kind of like what’s happening around here—EGordon is so crucial to team effectiveness that they can’t win without him. The fact is that they should be able to compete with the teams on their schedule until he gets back. Thornton and Butler have to play better, and be more effective. BDavis and Kaman have to lead the way, Camby has to rebound and defend, etc. Thornton is getting a big opportunity, and Butler is going from being a 5th option/role player to a featured starting SG.
One major worry is MDSr’s stated troubles with coaching a team with injured players. He did a good job of making the switch from starting Thornton to getting Butler in the starting lineup fairly quickly. There were some relatively minor questionable decisions in the tough first four games, forgotten now, although failing to pull out one or two of those games is more significant now that the team needs every win it can find. But now it will be a matter of getting production out of the bench, trying to find contributors, not just Craig Smith and Telfair. Using guys like Rush and Collins and Novak over the next 6 games will be critical. MDSr is not so foolish or stubborn to think that he can just plug Ricky Davis in for Eric Gordon. It’s going to be a big challenge.
by citizen zhiv on Nov 11, 2009 11:07 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
How many can we win of the next 6?
That will be the question, and tonight is a big night. New Orleans is a good team when they are right, and they were definitely right on Monday. We’ll have to play them in NO which is almost certainly a loss, as well as the 6th game v.s. Denver.
2 pretty tough games will be OKC on the road, and at home v.s. Toronto Friday.
Most winnable are tonight and @ Memphis next week. If we can win tonight, 3/6 seems within reach, but we’ll need to win at least two to keep some kind of hope and momentum alive.
The first big blow was that home loss to Phoenix which was easily within our reach.
