Minnesota's 2010 Draft Pick Status
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Minnesota's been owing us a first-round draft pick for years dating back to the Sam Cassell trade. I believe it was top-ten protected up until a certain year, and for some reason I want to say that year is 2010. Anyone know what the deal is with that? After watching them last night, coupled with their 1-13 record, I'm guessing it's going to be pretty high pick...

Ahh, okay...
Did some digging on my own, and the Wolves’ draft pick is ours in 2010 if it’s not in the top 10, and like bystander said in 2012 it becomes unprotected.
Minny may not be lottery bound for long...
If they get 11 I think Clips should take it depending on who’s available.
They are definitely lottery bound this year
Hard to imagine that team winning more than 20 games even when Kevin Love comes back. Even after that the fact that Minny is a small market team means they won’t be able to rebuild drastically through free agency either. I think we should be pretty confident that we’ll have a pretty high draft pick in 2012.

Is this true?
If it falls between 1-10 in 2010/2011 then we dont’ get it until 2012 when we get the pick wherever it is BUT, if it falls outside the top 10 in 2010/2011 then we automatically have to take it?
Bingo! Oh me oh my!
I thought it was
If it falls outside we have the top 10, we have the option to take it or could wait until 2011.
i think ur confusing that trade with
our recent “option to swap 2nd round picks” trade recently (with Camby and again with Novak).
Yes,
That’s the whole point of protecting it. If minny is not in the top ten that means they did “ok” in the season thus we get it and they won’t miss it that much. By 2012 they’re hoping that they are good enough so that when we get the unprotected pick its much lower than 10th. So Minnesota is just buying time to get better until they have to give us their unprotected pick and hopefully (to minny) that pick sucks.
so bascially
minny is hoping they’re out of the top 10 because that means minny won a few games and the unprotected part is to make sure we get it this decade….
Think we should see what they want for Rubio
Shouldn’t cost too, too much seeing as he’s just a rookie and has only his overseas play as the Wolves leverage. Think he’d be a good gamble giving up a pick or 2 and some cap space (if that’s what’s nneded to get the deal done)

I say send the pick back to Minny straight up for Rubio.
How can Kahn possibly say no to a freebie do-over? It’s my understanding that Rubio isn’t in the same situation as American players coming out of college on rookie scales. Can’t he sign anywhere he wants after a couple years?
We can dangle a bail-out in front of his face, and a Bassy/Rubio PG tandem of the future looks really nice.

Now you're talking!
That’d be great; just throw in Lebron and EJ at the wings and you’d have quite the team. Sigh. If only…
Slightly unrelated, but I’ve really enjoyed watching Bassy play this year. He’s been better than advertised; I still cringe when he takes a jumper, but his control of the game is nice and of course his ball handling is out of this world. A very pleasant surprise…

Rubio is locked up for another two years
I would wait and see with him, he could still be a bust plus who knows what else is out there in 2 years.

Right..
Maybe John Wall will hold out on the draft, then when 2012 hits, John Wall enters, and BAM! We hit the Wall!
cringe when bassy shoots?
looks pretty pure to me compared to barons last few dozen 3 attempts..
bdizzle..no one respects your range, you gotta drive! the open 3 is always there for a point guard..maturity says drive the lane and better things will happen
Bassy is relatively young...he's younger than Al Thornton...it may be too early to write him off
He could be like Kaman and have a breakout year, whether it is now or next year.
thats funny snackbar
baron has had a bad shot for years…… i thought it was pretty bad up north too but he just SHOT A CRAPLOAD OF TIMES…..but bassy? no way. he has a wonderful stroke and he’s always workin on it BUT never been a streaky shooter or never given the right system to play in. i go to games and after the star spangled banner and during intro’s, he’s always working on his dribbling and his shooting with an imaginary ball. i like wat bassy has to offer. i love his shot…..reminds me of novak’s sweet stroke. either way, he wasnt consisted beginning the season but these last few games, he’s been on fire.
bassy (sorry baron, keep bassy’s seat warm for him when he takes a rest) :-)
gordon (loved the moment we drafted the kid. i knew wat he was capable of)
thornton (deserves his spot back)
grffin (please come back 100%, i wanna see u dunk on benedict brand soon)
kaman (3.0?)
