Kaman = 2010 All Star

I was telling Kaman he’s an All Star at last night’s game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13JhiulP6r8

Sorry

Sorry about the video being so shaky but there is no way he didn’t hear me.

Hey Steve, this is off topic but,

I’m wondering why nobody ever talks about trying to convince Marcus into resigning with us? This guy is proving that age is just a number!

He's said that he would like to stay on the team

We’ll see if that is just talk or a valid statement. He is a loyal guy and has grown fond of some of the youth, so if we show that we can be a winning team then he just may wish to return. There’s a lot of talk about the big fish in free-agency, but we have quite a few guys on the team that we need to seriously consider keeping.

He's 36

and its 6 games into the season. And he has a history of injuries. Maybe take a wait and see approach on that one, but I’d still try to move him once BG starts playing.

Here are a few notable names

Our own guys
Butler (U)
Camby (U)
Collins (QO)
Novak (U)
Ricky (U)
Skinner (U)
Smith (U)

R. Allen (U)
Azubuike (P-$3.3M)
S. Blake (U)
T. Chandler (ETO-$12M)
Childress®
Ford (P-$8.5M)
Farmar®
Foye®
Gay®
Ginobili (U)
J. Howard (T-$11.8M)
Joe Johnson (U)
Livingston (U)
R. Mason (U)
McGrady (U)
M. MIller (U)
Morrow®
Salmons (ETO-$5.8M)
Stojakovic (ETO-$14.3M)

Players that are getting an insanely high salary for their current level of play are not likely to opt out (e.g. Peja Stojakovic & Tyson Chandler), whereas others might find a better deal on the open market (e.g. John Salmons). Restricted FA’s are always frustrating since the team has a week to match and you end up tying up your cap for that week while other teams are making deals.

Another thing to consider is that we could always add pieces via trade for pure cap space like we have with Camby and Butler. So we are not only limited to these players.

ETO = Early Termination Option
P = Player Option
R = Restricted Free-Agent
T = Team Option
U = Unrestricted Free-Agent

I wouldn't mind Tmac

Could get him cheaply too (say a 2 year 10 million deal). Much of it depends on how he looks when he comes back this year but he’d be a interesting player for us.

T-Mac

is the player who I would focus on provided he comes back from his injuries and shows that he can still provide solid production.

We’d be able to pick him up and possibly still have a little cap room. Plus we wouldn’t have to move anybody to bring him in. He’d give us size at the 3, and be a player that could play minutes at both guard positions as well. He’s had some physical issues corrected. He couldn’t jump off of his left leg after falling in 2002, but now he can. His work ethic is said to have improved after working with Tim Grover, and he’s actually improved his core strength.

We don’t need him to be our primary option, which makes him much more dangerous in my opinion. The opposing defense would not be able to double anyone, because we would have too many threats that would make them pay. Baron – Gordon – McGrady – Griffin – Kaman. That’s not fair to the competition.

Exactly

It could be a performance based contract as well, similar to the one Marcus Camby has regarding number of games played for instance.

He’s a strong rebounder, good passer and I think (even though the %s don’t reflect it) a good 3 pt shooter if someone sets him up. We should still have enough cap room to resign some players as well (Camby, Sool, Rhino)

Makes sense

This way, we could also draft a wing man and give him a year or two to develop behind TMac. I wonder if the upcoming free agent market might create so much commotion that guys like TMac will receive less notice. We could target him right off while attention is elsewhere.

I’m more down now about Lebron, not just because getting him is unlikely, but also because of the salary space it would eat up. If we have to sign our key starters AND Lebron, I don’t see how things can add up, especially if we want to resign Griffin down the line. We may be better off concentrating on good-value veterans and draft talent.

nice breakdown

very informative. I dont know who i’d go after. Rudy Gay seems like a great match being, he’s young, and talented. My only concern with him is he needs the ball to be effective. I think our ideal match would be a player who is a wing who is extremely gifted on the defensive end. He would guard the opposing team’s small forward and be our 4th option. Then when EJ goes to the bench, he can step into that shooting guard roll and take over on the offensive end.

Azubuike would be a match also.

I’m not giving up on Al Thornton just yet. I think he just needs to be given a roll and have Lucas coach him on how to thrive in that roll.

just my 2 cents!

by big0lbad on Nov 7, 2009 5:21 PM PST up reply actions

I'm not sure he's a great fit for us.

Right now he’s kind of a better version of Thornton. I’d much rather have the guy that the Grizzlies traded to get him.

by Lawler 4ever on Nov 8, 2009 12:38 AM PST up reply actions

Hmm

He’s a much better version of AT to be honest. He’s also become a lot more consistent, he used to be a lot more like Lamar Odom where he would have one remarkable game and then follow it up with a dud, the variance is much lower now. He’s also very young (23) so he’d be perfect to pair with BG and EJ (and possibly DJ).

THANK YOU for the list

Very helpful. Azubuike seems too small for us. TMac is interesting; I’d forgotten he was a free agent. Salmons and Gay look intriguing, too.

by SilverClip on Nov 7, 2009 6:58 PM PST up reply actions

I think Gay would be a good player to go after

Memphis has never really treated him that well and he can complete the G force trifecta. And after watching him play against us and how versatile he is he would definitley be worth a look at.

In Gordon we trust

Why not?

Al Thornton, Minny’s pick, and maybe some cash just might do the job… Heck Ill even throw out a second rounder this year …
