Let's start a campaign to bring LeBron James to the Clippers!

As TJ Simers put it really well in his recent article, the Clippers are clearly the best team for LeBron to sign with this summer, with the best arena of LA and the Staples Center and the best talent in Baron, Kaman, Gordon, and Griffin.  If LeBron stays in Cleveland or goes anywhere else, he will be stuck with subpar players in a subpar town (yes I'm saying it, LA is superior to NYC!).

And yet, no one thinks that there's any way LeBron signs with the Clippers.  I'm sure even Club Optimism would put it as a less than 10% chance.  LeBron will, of course, definitely have doubts about the Clippers organization, the owner, the coach, the team, and the fans.  None of us can really control any of the first three, but we as the most dedicated fans of the Clippers can launch a guerilla marketing campaign to put the team on his radar and show him how much love we will show him if he signs with the team!  If there's even a 1% chance that he'd sign with the Clippers, we should do whatever we can to make our case known - I mean, look at how blatantly the Knicks have been campaigning for LeBron, why shouldn't we do the same and be overly obvious and in his face about how much we would love for him to sign with the Clippers?

Star-divide

Here's my proposal: We launch an all out campaign to bring LeBron to the Clippers, attacking from every angle possible.  I propose that we have custom LeBron Clippers jerseys made and and especially one for Clipper Darrell and start wearing them to as many games as possible (if we can get a bunch of people wearing them for the January 16th game when the Cavs come into town, that would be really good, but we need people to start wearing them consistently too).  We can also start a website called "ClippersKingJames.com" or "KingJamesBreaksTheClippersCurse.com" or something far more clever that somebody on here can come up with, send him tons of emails and tweets, create crazy youtube edited videos showing LeBron throwing down dunks as a Clipper, photoshop him into Clippers team photos, and do whatever else we can to keep inundating him and the media to show LeBron that the Clippers actually have a fan base, an intelligent and dedicated one at that, and try to outweigh everyone's never-ceasing belief that the Clippers are the worst sports franchise in the universe and keep reminding him of all the positive aspects that go with joining the Clippers.  Who's with me????

Should we launch a fan campaign to bring LeBron James to the Clippers?

We want LeBron, but let's not go overboard with this...he might think we're just as crazy as Sterling

There's a 0% chance LeBron signs with the Clippers. Why waste our time?

Clippers need to start winning then.

We would need to totally turn it around and make some noise in the postseason. Ferry would have to make either no moves at all (and waste their expirings) or make unsuccessful ones. Also, Cleveland would likely have to choke/come up short in the playoffs for LeBron to seriously contemplate looking elsewhere.

Turning around the Clippers and making them champions would easily be a huge accomplishment on one’s legacy. That’s got to be worth at least 3 championships on most other teams.

i think the fact that he’d be leaving GM danny ferry , the clipper holdout to come to us would make it even more sweet (not like it already wouldnt be insanely awesome)

LOL

I wasn’t even thinking about it that way. That would be icing on the cake.

Count me in! Lets also hold a gatheing in front of the Clippers practice facility/staples and start chanting “we want lebron”. We can start chanting during the post game show!! The key here is media exposure. If it fails, at least we tried.

exactly!

like a wise man once said, it’s better to try and fail than to fail to try. i’m down for going to the practice facility!

Someone who thinks they're good enough

to turn the team around. We have to plead to LeBron’s ego, I mean he IS called “The Chosen One”, so what is he chosen for, other than to “save” an ailing basketball team and lead them to a championship! Just like Lawler 4ever said, if a player can turn the Clippers around and win a championship, that accomplishment would make him legendary.

People who like money

People who like Los Angeles.

People who like the other players team.

I think a lot of people seriously overstate the “nobody will play for X team argument.”

We can't give him more money than Cleveland.

There is no way Lebron would choose to come to the biggest laughingstock in team sports.

His advertisers wouldn’t allow it either.

I've got nothing.

His advertisers wouldn’t allow it either.

Okay. Is it fun to make up statements as though they are fact? I mean, where are you getting this from?

Nike: No no Lebron, we forbid you to go to Los Angeles. Sure its a huge market, but the team is a laughingstock! Stay in Cleveland!

Lebron: Whatever. I’m the biggest name in sports. I’ll go anywhere I please and you will continue to pay me because I am Lebron James.

Nike: Deal!

These kind of comments are insane. Kobe was going to sign with the Clippers and the reason he didn’t wasn’t because the team was a laughingstock, its because he convinced the Lakers to run off Shaq and essentially turn the team over to him. I’m not even saying its likely Lebron will come to LA. Because its not. But your “points” are completely out of left field.

Keep in mind that

Cleveland was a laughing stock before Lebron. They turned out alright. They’re not a HUGE market, but you can’t downplay them either with Lebron there. Anywhere Lebron goes, except that market to light it up.

Of course

That’s why the position above is so silly.

LeBron isn't likely to sign a 5 or 6 year deal.

He didn’t before, why would he now? That means CLE can’t offer him the most money; that’s only true if he signs the six year deal only the Cavaliers can legally provide.

He signed the a shorter deal because...

he would be eligible for more money after playing for 7 seasons. It will jump again after the 10 year mark.

Cleveland has the right to offer him an extra year, but they also have the ability to offer him 10.5% raises each year. Other teams can only give him 8% raises unless they obtain him through a sign-and-trade deal.

Any way you look at, Cleveland can offer him the most money by contract out any NBA team.

Lebron will never sign with the Clips.....

….as long a Dumb loony is running the team. He wants to win, remember?

Sounds good to me!

DTS would fire Dun in a heartbeat for LBJ.

He’d practically be able to name our replacement. He scolded the Cavs when they fired Lucas before he was drafted.

If the Clippers had the chance to sign LeBron, I’d like to think that GMMDsr would convince CMDsr to step down for the good of the team. Maybe signing the best player in basketball would appease his ego enough to make the sacrifice. If we won a championship, he’d still get a ring.

This team is committed to Brian Skinner...

Did any one else catch that interview with Dunleavy last week where he said “F*ck Lebron, we got Brian Skinner. If it ain’t dipped it ain’t sh*t.” ? I think the team might be leaning towards BSkinnz as it’s long term solution.

Yay yay.

HAHAHAHA

This thread cracks me up.

But hey, whatever it takes to get Lebron over here and take away Staples Center from that number 24 guy, I’m down.

Clippers 09-10. Prepare for a revolution.
