I talked about acquiring Joe Johnson here recently and said that Atlanta probably wouldn't do it, but he's a good fit. I found someone who is a good fit and is a natural 3 who is on a horrible team and is a restricted free agent coming up.
Clippers trade Al Thornton, Rasual Butler, Deandre Jordan and future #1
to Memphis for
Rudy Gay and Stephen Hunter
When you look at it, Memphis doesn't want to pay Rudy Gay, which is why they made him a weak offer. He's going to leave. Memphis would do this for the lottery pick (depending on which pick you send, it shouldn't be the Minnesota pick though, that's gold right now), the upside of Jordan and because Thornton can fill Gay's spot for less salary. Butler would be their sixth man filling in at SG and SF.
I put Butler and Hunter in there to give Memphis a little more talent, but you can do the trade without those two.
Someone last time talked about Joe Johnson and said "that will bring in the fans". Yes, a player like Johnson or Gay, who is able to put points on the board and can create on their own would do that. Then we wouldn't have to resort to Kaman in the post damn near every time or Baron jacking up another off balance shot. Gordon needs help, both of those guys average 20-21 per game and could average 25 with the Clippers if used correctly. Then they win more games and then the fans will come. I don't care about bandwagon fans who want someone like Iverson, I'd rather win 60 games with the Washington Generals lineup than win 25 and look good.
