Caron Butler?

Recent trade rumors have surfaced as both Golden State and Phoenix have contacted Washington expressing interest in Caron Butler.

The Wizards were hoping that reuniting Arenas, Jamison and Butler would revive old magic (no pun intended) but Butler has been struggling this season under Flip Saunders' offense. His FG percentage (41.4%) and scoring average (16.7 PPG) are both well below his averages over the past five years. The Wizards may be looking to shake things up after a disappointing start. If Butler is indeed available, do you think the Clips would take a look? He consistently shoots 45% every year (though just 41% this year), rebounds, and can score. Also, his contract is fairly solid where he earns 9 mill year and around 10.5 next.
Personally, are you interested? What would give up?

My thoughts exactly

then you add Blake Griffin to into the mix next month. We should be ok.

Once BG comes back

we could offer Camby or Kaman. But as much as I like Butler its hard to find quality bigs.

I can't imagine the Wiz taking that offer

Now if they would take Ricky Davis, Craig Smith, Rasual Butler and Mardy Collins for Butler then I guess they deserve to be robbed.

Wouldn't the motivation

be to drop some salary from next year’s pay role? They’d get a bunch of expirings and some financial breathing space…

In this light, why would they be interested in Kaman (as you bring up above)? That would keep them in the same financial bind and also turn their roster more lopsided.

I confess, I’m a novice to NBA trading logistics. What am I missing here, if anything?

Dude....

Caron has a bad rap, imagine trading Caron for Kwame Brown.

by sqrebck on Dec 18, 2009 4:12 PM PST reply actions

That was 4 years ago

Kwame was still young enough to where people thought that maybe he could get better with Phil Jackson coaching him. The Lakers got the ultimate bailout at the end though since they flipped (or stole) Kwame for Gasol.

come on

dude, it’s Kwame… When Jordan can’t make you better, you suck.

by sqrebck on Dec 18, 2009 6:46 PM PST up reply actions

heh gotta love this

“[Kwame]Brown walked over to [Michael]Jordan, his hero, and vowed, “If you draft me first, I’ll never disappoint you.” Before turning away, the teenager offered a prediction for a one-on-one showdown in the not-so-distant future: “And I’ll beat you.”

Man, Brown sure did leave a legacy alright.. of failing!

Jordan probably destroyed his confidence

by absolutely killing him in practice everyday. Kwame had showed flashes of stardom before though, I remember he started off his 2nd year really strong.

Kwame destroyed Chandler

but both of those players really doesn’t look like top 2 picks…

Atleast we got Brand for Chandler…

I wonder what the Wizards want?

Cap relief?

If you can get the pair of Butler and Jamison I’d throw the expring contract combo plate at them. Then once Griffin proves out I’d start looking to move one of them.

Cap relief, maybe some picks or prospects

I mean, what else it could it be? For the trade you’re suggesting, I assume we’d be throwing in Camby with our other expirings, but then getting back Butler. As much as I love Camby, the trade wouldn’t be leaving us thin up front, so I’d probably do it. Frankly, I think the Wizards might just do it as well, if indeed they’re looking for cap relief. The trade would relieve them of +$20 million next year.

Deal our junk

Butler, Ricky, and Mardy for Butler works. We’d have to throw in a protected pick, but I’d do this deal. We’d kill our cap space, but I’d rather do a sure thing than gamble on next year.

by Hooch20 on Dec 18, 2009 5:11 PM PST reply actions

I don't know when this deal would make sense

if we are in the playoff hunt then we don’t want to change anything, if we aren’t we might as well just clear space for the summer and this won’t do it.

In Gordon we trust

Pass,

Caron has major attitude problems and personality conflicts with his Teammates and Coaching Staff everywhere he has been.

Evidence that it has happened recently?

I’ve heard about his past, but recently nothing negative seems to have surrounded Caron Butler.

If we look at players strictly on their past, then we shouldnt overlook EJ’s turnaround on Illinois.
All of the Zach Randolph incidents (I still believe Louis Amundson deserves to get clipped though)
or Camby’s UCONN acceptance of incentives.
