Disturbing (and accurate) recap from Yahoo

Yahoo sports' NBA blog does a fairly entertaining recap of games every day.  Today's recap of yesterday's Clips game had several interesting tidbits.  Not only is it totally accurate regarding Baron, it had this to say about Kaman:

Chuck Hayes(notes) did well to hold Chris Kaman(notes) to 5 for 16 shooting. According to the Clippers broadcasting crew, not only did Kaman not know Hayes was going to guard him before the game or that he was starting, Kaman didn't know Hayes was 6-6. Wow.

Star-divide

Seriously?  I'm not even sure who to blame here.  Hayes isn't a rookie.  How does Kaman not know that he's 6-6?  How does he not know that Hayes has been starting at the 5 for the Rockets all freaking year?  What's going on here?

So CLEARLY Kaman wasn't prepped to deal with Hayes.  He wasn't told how to take advantage of his height advantage, nor was that part of the game plan.

Kaman, who unlike most here I actually like, must be a complete idiot not to know he's facing Hayes.  But the coaching staff also clearly didn't make Kaman's height advantage over Hayes any kind of focal point in their game plan.  Did they even have a game plan?  Is there a scouting report?  Again...WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?!

You know what pisses me off the most about this

They had 2 days off between games! It’s not like its the second night of a back to back. The Memphis game ended at 3 on Sunday, surely a scouting report can get circulated to the players within the next few days.

Ya, this is a frustrating thing to read.

You guys (and Yahoo) need to stop - you are not savvy

Only MDSr knows all. You are all too stupid to understand. As you can see from MDSr’s record.

Oh, wait.

If you've got a clueless player, and have had him for several years, shouldn't it be

the coach’s job to fill him in on slightly important things, like matchups etc…

Its a tough job

Thornton and Kaman seems to lack basketball IQ…

Coaching again, shouldn't CMDsr. do a scouting report on teams before the Game?

or maybe he is to preoccupied tiring to find out the difference of an X-ray Vs. CT Scan or a Picture Vs. a MRI.

or he can’t handle being Coach let alone GM and to be both,
Well we see the results.

Mountains, molehills, forest, trees, whatever

Hayes only guarded Kaman for half the game, probably less with switches and all. They have played each other 11 times so Kaman knows of Hayes, but probably didn’t know Hayes was 6’6 precisely. Since, you know, it doesn’t matter.

And here I thought the knock on Dunleavy was that he changes the gameplan to match the opposition and he shouldn’t do that and just let the players play. Now its that he didn’t personally tell Kaman that Hayes was starting and completely rewrite the plan around that fact when the guy plays less than 30 mpg. Even though the facts of who the starters are would become obvious to Kaman, you know, the instant the starters walked on the flow.

But haters gotta hate I guess.

He's right - there is no reason to criticize MDSr.

None. If you’re stupid enough to criticize him, you’re a hater.

MDSr has already told us that -

wow

Look at the teams record these past 3 years and just shut your mouth alright? Fools GM and Coach and practically runs the damn team. Share your thoughts with someone who actually cares…oh wait no one cares!

Um, I don't get this comment

Are you telling Kaman to shut his mouth?

by Michael White on Dec 3, 2009 3:37 PM PST up reply actions

That's a very good question...

I was trying to figure out who this was directed to…. The more I read it, the more I get the impression that he wants us (fans) to shut our mouths and let the team be run by the GM and Coach. Well JJClipperfan, welcome to a fourm where fans DISCUSS and share our thoughts to other passionate Clipper fans… and yes, we actually CARE.

The fact we care

is clearly our biggest problem here. If we didn’t care we’d probably be happier people in general.

Ah!, I see now..

its best if you specify … At first I thought it was to Jax and you didn’t realize Jax’s sarcasm…

Don't worry about it

I remember Mike Smith saying that during the game. He always says he talked to everyone before the game ( on that note he always says the clippers are gonna win before the team collapses). He was just making a lame joke like the one that got him and Ralph suspended. Kaman ain’t that dumb, hes played Hayes before.

by MTM22 on Dec 3, 2009 4:17 PM PST reply actions

kaman is a very dumb player. yes, kaman is a basketball dope.

i like kaman and i have to admit this, he isn’t a very bright player. he is always out of position. never uses his size appropriately. puts the ball on the floor way too much. he has all of the talent in the world, but, any player who needs to coached to take advantage of an opposing player that is 6 to 7 inches shorter than he is, is too freakin’ dumb to play on a playoff or championship team. he should have been in the low post all night long. He got caught on camera laughing and looping down court as his man raced by and scored. He isn’t consistent. He isn’t a leader. Let Detroit have him.

by dellago on Dec 3, 2009 5:22 PM PST reply actions

setting it straight

For sake of argument let’s say that Kaman didn’t know how tall Hayes was, like John R said he would have quickly found out when he took the court and stood next to him. Did it change anything? Heck no. Kaman kept trying the exact same thing expecting different results. Kaman’s not dumb but he just can’t focus and that kills the team. How bright was his coach for keeping him out there to let him continue his experiment with madness? Kaman was never moving that mound of Chuck and that through his offensive game off very much the same way Mt. Craig Smith stiffled Dirk Nowitzki’s. Speaking of the “Rhino” why didn’t he get more of an opportunity to beast it out with Chuck and Carl? I mean his name starts with a ‘C’ too! Not to mention he went 6-8 or something like that. Why did we see Baron and Al on the bench, the floor for that matter when the game was still yet to be decided. Why is Mardy getting more playing time? (More on that one the Mardy Fanshot ). Why did Rasual miss that shot? Don’t care about Brooks going off or all the 3’s but must I tolerate 3 attempts ina row for the opposing team. We had NO low post threat on the court a majority of the time (we only have Craig right now). Hold on a second Craig could have remedied those last two things….but we had Chris Kaman in. Yes this is me now clearly saying trade Kaveman to Michigan, it will NOT come back to haunt us. Dunleavy, …smh
