Oden vs. Blake....injuries
I simply ask this question literally and figuratively. Whats the difference between Greg Oden's injury http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/63240/20091207/oden_has_surgery_officially_done_for_season/ and Blake Griffin's. Oden is now out for the season with a broken kneecap. Should Blakes original prognosis been as conservative? Should we say that Blake will be out til' March. Something seems a little different. I saw Blake a week ago with a strange package on his knee, almost surgical(i know he had no and will have no surgery). But to say 6 weeks originally, im offended as a fan.

Level of seriousness
They do seem to be similar. But BG’s “fracture” was a hairline, with no displacement. I think Oden’s was truly cracked, really broken. Strange injury.
Oden's injury changes landscape?
Is Portland shopping for a big before the trade deadline? Kaman or Camby? Lots of young talent on that team…We need a SF and a back up SG…ideas?
Roger Sterling: To my knees, Don. They're bringing to my knees!"
Oden plus clipper curse?
he ganna break both of his knees lol
While I’m at it, maybe we can trade for Tracy McGrady and start the most injury prone roster ever!
But seriously, if they want Kaman (and they should he’s the perfect player for that team) I would want Oden in return. There’s nobody else on that team who would interest me (since Roy is obviously not available.) I’ve never been a fan of Aldridge’s game, but having him play alongside a true post scorer in Kaman would be perfect for them, and frankly its not something I’d be interested in seeing in a western rival.
I like Ferndandez as a player, but we already have Gordon, so that wouldn’t make sense.
The price (for me) for Camby wouldn’t be nearly as steep and Camby wouldn’t do much for them anyway.

oden for kaman would be quite good it's early to call oden a bust
and his potential is pretty high
Here's a wacky trade idea
Three way deal between Clips, Portland, and Washington
Clips receive Mike Miller from the Wizards, plus Greg Oden
Portland gets Chris Kaman and Ricky Davis
Washington gets M Webster, Rudy Fernandez, and J Howard from the Blazers
In a priliminary trade, the Clips use their exemption to acquire Andray Blatche from the Wizards.
It works with the salary cap as far as I can tell. The Wizards do it in order to dump ~$6.5 million from their pay roll. The Clips get their glue guy, a fill-in big for this year, and Oden’s unlimited “potential”. The Blazers give up modest pieces and their broken center for Kaman.
Like I say, pretty wacky
When you boil it down, I was really just determined to come up with a conceivable way of acquiring Mike Miller. But a Kaman for Oden switch is at least eye-catching, no? Granted, not a particularly good way… like a warthog in leotards.
Also worth noting
We’d be clearing more space in next year’s free agency (JackduhSun pointed this out). Take another look at the trade… It looks good to me a different moments, in the right light.
I suppose I would take it because of Miller and 2010
but I would wait and see until after Griffin comes back.
In Gordon we trust
Why would we want Oden
he is way to injury prone and hasn’t proved anything.
For the same reason we want Blake Griffin.

but Griffin at least showed in pre season what he can do
Oden has played average when he has played and that is not that often. If we are trading Kaman we need a better backup for the SG and SF instead of another big ment (assuming Griffin comes back and plays as expected)
In Gordon we trust
Oden has played better than average
He was looking very strong so far this year. He had a very serious injury that took awhile to recover (it looked like he had to drag his leg around last year). It’s a shame because he looked extremely promising during college where he dominated even Al Horford and Joakim Noah during the NCAA Finals.
FA in 2010.
Oden was having a pretty darn solid year
and he was doing it while games actually counted. He was posting an insane PER of 23.3 (12th in the NBA) which would be the best on the Clippers. So saying that he’s been average when he’s played seems mispalced. And yes, he’s done it in fewer minutes, though many would argue that Kaman’s minutes should be curbed significantly anyway.
Deandre Jordan also had a nice pre-season and he’s barely able to work his way on the floor now.

"Deandre Jordan also had a nice pre-season and he’s barely able to work his way on the floor now."
…yet were these fairly earned or was the coach to timid on his leash?
I think its earned
I think DJ gives you very little right now. If getting him reps is part of building for the future, I can buy into that. But he’s not much of an NBA player right now (IMO.)

Same location, but 2 different injuries
Oden was unable to walk after his injury. Blake was able to exit the game himself and he is now up and walking. If you looked at Oden’s knee following the injury and Blake’s following his, it would be clear to see that Oden’s was a lot more severe.
I am also disappointed that his prognosis was understated, since it allows you to get your hopes up. He had Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy on his knee and that alone requires 4 weeks of down time after the treatment. He did not have it immediately. If he were to have it twice, then that would be another 4 weeks. (Up to) 6 weeks was too optimistic for the team to initially announce. 8-10 weeks would have been a little more accurate.
Very different
Oden – fracture. Surgery was required to set the pieces back together and lots of time is necessary for the pieces to mend.
Griffin – non-displace stress fracture. Stress fracture means it’s just a crack, not a break in the bone. Non displaced means there was no movement. The bone is right where it needs to be, and with rest the fracture will heal itself.
Griffin’s initial estimate was apparently too aggressive, but these are very different injuries.

do you think the blazers will stay put or shop for a big?
Roger Sterling: To my knees, Don. They're bringing to my knees!"
I think they stand pat...
Przbilla is quite serviceable… and Oden’s trade value will be low right now. So they hold on to him and hope THIS TIME, he’ll heal up good, once and for all. But I don’t see Oden getting dealt on his rookie deal. I just think he’s worth more to Portland than he is to anyone else.

Portland must be thinking “If Illgauskas can do it, so can Oden…” At least that’s what I would be thinking.

No thanks
And then what happens? We either have to re-sign Camby (the oft injured and on the wrong side of 35 tweener) or we have to find another center on the market.
DJ hasn’t shown anything of yet to suggest he is a capable starting C in this league.

You may be right
but, Kaman just frustrates the hell out of me with his turnovers and bad decisions. Outlaw is a very athletic, young win with a reliable J and Bayless is young and has a world of potential
I like Outlaw (though I’m not too high on Bayless.) I’m fine with swapping Camby for Outlaw; I just don’t see the logic in unloading an under 30 center for a forward. And then having to go out and fine a new center.

Well...
If Kaman frustrates you with his turnovers and bad decisions, you just might have a heart attack over some of Outlaws screwups. I am one of the Blazer fans that can put up with Outlaws mistakes for all the other good things he brings to the table. OK on-the-ball-defense, reliable jumpshot, and icewater in his veins are some of the things he has but if you listened to most Blazer fans they would trade him for a new towel boy.
Blazersedge mods suck
for Kaman
I have gone on record stating we should trade him, for value of course, but the logic of “having” to go out and another center if we trade Kaman: that is very debatable. So much that a current 6’6" center in Houston is arguing his piece; saying his team beat ours and how he rendered our center useless. So what that its one center who avgs 20 mins a game on a teaming hovering around the .500 mark. Effort beat out talent that matchup. Now even that has been said, I would keep Kaman he is very valuble on offense if he is the 3rd option or less and we seem to have that with Eric, Baron and potentially Blake. So keep him for sure. Just make sure coach gets the memo of Kaman being the 3rd optiion or less. that makes him a threat liken to that of Rik Smits.
