The Back Story:

  • January 2, 2009, in Phoenix - Phoenix 106 - Clippers 98  Box Score  Recap
  • January 11, 2009, in LA - Phoenix 109 - Clippers 103  Box Score  Recap
  • February 17, 2009, in Phoenix - Phoenix 140 - Clippers 100  Box Score  Recap

The Big Picture:

Look, if you think you're getting another fancy-schmancy preview out of me for the same two teams 25 hours later, you've got another think coming.  You know what - if the Clippers don't have to play a whole game, then I don't have to write a whole preview.  Go read yesterday's.  Nothing has changed except that the Suns won by 40 in a game that was not as close as the final score would indicate.  Oh, and Zach Randolph will likely miss the entire game, instead of just missing the final three quarters, thanks to that annoying guy with the pony tail.

The Antagonist:

The Suns are averaging 140 points per game under new head coach Alvin Gentry.  They'll look to improve on that.

The Subplots

  • I'm serious.  I'm not doing a preview.  The Clippers don't deserve a preview.
  • By the way, the probable starters for the Clippers are really just the guys I expect to be in the game for the entire fourth quarter.  Just a hunch.
  • Get the Suns perspective at Bright Side of the Sun.

How does this team do it?

Following the All Star break, we were supposedly going to have all our roster back. Kaman was due back (what the hell is the deal with him?), Collins due back, and the rest should all have been fit.

So what happens?

Camby is out with earache (probably from his agent on the phone who’s been trying to get him anywhere but Clipperland!), Skinner has an injury, Kaman is enjoying his winter holiday too much, and Zach decides he’ll lamp someone in the mouth to get a very probable suspension.

How many times can this team self explode?

Everytime the fans (who I think are much more positive than that this team deserve) think we are going to finally get the full roster on the floor and improve, something happens.

One thing that did briefly brighten my day until I heard the end of the sentence was that Ric Bucher on the ESPN NBA Today podcast mentioned that he’d heard that the Rockets had put a trade to Clippers which would give us Shane Battier and Rafer Alston and would send Baron Davis back to the Rockets. I would bite there hand off and help Baron move myself but apparently the Clippers Org turned this down!!!!! Sure, this hasn’t been confirmed but if this were true, I would question who would have made that decision.

I do a Clippers podcast weekly and this week I’m interviewing another podcast host from the Phoenix Suns so please feel sorry for me as I am going to be SOOO embarrassed and will get my shirt handed to me!

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

I've asked CS to put up a link to it but

in the meantime you can get to it through ITunes by typing TSS: in the search box. This brings back a list of podcasts on the website (The Sports Stuff). You can pick it up from there and subscribe if you wish. It’s called Clipper Talk

Otherwise, the link to the site is http://thesportsstuff.com/?cat=286

I’m on Episode 11 this week with my first interview included (should be out this Sunday).

Please don’t expect too much. It’s like the LA Clippers of podcasting – ha ha ha. It’s just done in my own time and I’ve only started a couple of months ago so I’m still learning. Don’t go expecting the Clips Nation of the podcasting world as I don’t have the same knowledge levels as CS.

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

Wow

I think the Cippers killed Clipper Steve.

Ya, the game last night sucked, but its not really the end of the world. Simply having Camby back should be a help. The game’s at home. I doubt any of our starters will punch anyone tonight. Things are looking up!

By the way ClippersUK, if there is one thing the Rockets need, its a point guard. That deal could actually makes sense for them.

They do need one

I agree. Lets hope they need one who puts up bricks, plays no D and claims his team don’t put Defense as a priority. Then we’ve got just the man!

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

They already have one, his name is Rafer Alston.

Don’t encourage me.

here's a thought

dont play a big starting at all… make shaq chase novak on D! DJ isn’t going to defend shaq well anyway so why bother… and we’re not going to win, so it would be an interesting experiment to try and outrun and outgun the suns.

by cantthinkofagoodname on Feb 18, 2009 9:24 AM PST reply actions

I'm sure that is right up there in Dunleavy's plans

alongside quitting! It would be fun to watch but would never happen whilst he’s in charge (if it did it would not be with his consent anyway!).

Bingo! Oh me oh my!

he should have saved it for

Norcioni or Sasha…they deserve to be punched

by Qlippers on Feb 18, 2009 10:49 AM PST up reply actions

Haha, I hate Sasha as well because he

has that demeenor that he’s better than everybody.

But seriously though, I just didn’t see it coming, Randolph “WWE punching” whatshisface.
If he was planning to punch him no matter what, Randoplh should’ve actually tried to punch him with his fist rather than doing that weak stuff so I could feel much better about his suspension(s).

by cliptakular on Feb 18, 2009 11:04 AM PST up reply actions

Ya but Turiaf is a lot bigger and stronger than Sasha, Nocioni or the guy in the ponytail last night and would hit back. That would have been a heavyweight fight for sure.

What's funny was that

this game was shown in Casino Morongo. Another accomplishment for the proud Clippers franchise.

by cliptakular on Feb 18, 2009 10:41 AM PST reply actions

well, I guess not haha funny

but ironic that for the first time this season they do this, we lose this badly

Happy belated-Valentines Day

“He hopped up and got in my face and almost kissed me in my mouth,” Randolph said. “I just pushed him out of my face. If I would have hit him, he wouldn’t have got up off the ground.”

Said Amundson: “I was getting in his face, but I wasn’t trying to kiss him.”

gordan

any particular reason why he isn’t a probable starter tonight?

by Final692 on Feb 18, 2009 1:27 PM PST reply actions

ummm...

It’s kind of like a joke. Maybe it’s not funny.

real probable starters

Baron, EJ, Al, Ricky, DJ…. which is a team that will be buried.

If Camby or Skinner can go, you can insert one or both into the big spots.
