Did we lose the coinflip to the Wizards?
I just saw this on Hoopsworld. Evidently we have the 3rd most ping pong balls (we have 177 as opposed to 178). This is important because now we can fall to as low as 6th in the draft as opposed to 5th being the floor.

I thought they flipped a coin did we miss this event. Somehow I get the this ominious feeling that this does not bode well for us.

That's the implication....
The extra ping pong ball (and the order outside the top three) are determined by a coin flip, which was to take place today. However, I haven’t seen any official report on the coin flip.
The 177/178 thing is what it is – I’d rather have the extra chance than not, but it’s no big deal. As for the positioning, it’s unlikely it will come into play – both the Clippers and the Wizards would have to be out of the top three for that to happen. Odds are pretty good that one of them will wind up in the top three.

I'm going to die if...
the Wizards end up with the first pick. That extra ping pong ball might have been it!

Why do we say number of ping pong balls?
You dont actually get a number of ping pong balls, you get a number of outcomes. There’s only 14 ping pong balls in the whole process, not enough for one per team. The ping pong balls are selected by the machine and then compared against the combinations. There are 1001 combinations and 1000 of them are divided up among the teams.
Fun Fact: If the outcome of the drawing is 11-12-13-14 (the one extra combination), Stern has to remove his pants and spin again.
Get me BD and 75 and I'm in
It's easier...
It’s easier to talk about the ping pong ball than to talk about the number combination.

So we did send this year's 2nd rounder to Portland
I wasn’t sure because NBADraft still shows us with the pick and didn’t mention the Taylor trade in their draft notes. It’s a good thing Taylor worked out for us because that pick could actually turn out to be a good player. NBADraft’s mock shows Darren Collison as that pick right now.
Not a bad trade...
For a couple of reasons. Obviously Taylor worked out. But this draft is so week, high second rounders are real crap shoots. Usually, picks in the early 30’s can be pretty good – the talent of a first rounder, without the obligation of a first round pick contract. This year’s draft, they’re just not going to be that good – or rather, the odds are even worse that they will.

No Complaint Here
I agree that Mike Taylor was worth it. And at the time of the trade, Dunleavy couldn’t know he was trading the second pick of the second round, but it’s too bad he couldn’t or didn’t negotiate some kind of protection in the trade.
Once again Portland received excellent value, and it wouldn’t be surprising if they flip this pick into something better yet. I doubt that Taylor, or anyone else available, would have made Portland’s roster this year. I’m not sure this is so much a weak draft as a risky draft. Many of the players are so young that it’s very difficult to project their development. Even in a weak draft, there probably will be a decent player available early in the 2nd round. Likely 2nd rounders Collison and AJ Price seem to have talent comparable to Taylor.
Screw it, we will win this years #1 pick
David Stern owes us. We took Zbo and restored hope for one of the more popular franchises in 2010. Plus, with many teams suffering thru this recession, it’s good to have a team that will not ask for a bailout from the NBA. The earning potential for the Clips can be exponential and if the collective bargaining agreement changes to revenue sharing amongst all the teams. The NBA will be benefit from all the earning potential of the Clips.
Decent chance to win...
17.7% is pretty close to a 2 out of 11 chance.
Is the Rubio situation still up in the air? I notice that nbadraft.net doesn’t even have him listed as a possibility. Obviously, if he’s included in the draft i’ll feel a lot better.
On a random note, I heard Al Thornton has been notorious for eating fast food before games, but from now on he’s sworn off of it. Should be a breakout 3rd year w/ out all that Macrenardo’s in his system.
Mmmm
Thought about this some more. So we’re 0-1 in the off-season already? The losing never ends.
