Hello Clips Nation - Meet Your New Blogger
Hi. My name is Steve Perrin. I'll be taking over for ClipperSteve here at ClipsNation since his retirement from blogging, which coincidentally fell on April Fool's Day this year. Come to think of it, it's also a coincidence that we both have the same first name. Spooky.
OK, so yeah, it was an April Fool's Day prank. I tried to throw you off the scent a little by timing the post where most people would see it on the 2nd, but the timestamp would still be the April 1. Citizen SaintDee sniffed it out immediately. But I managed to fool a few of you nonetheless.
It's interesting that it worked so well, especially given that SaintDee gave everyone the head's up in the first comment. The simple truth is, it worked so well because most of what I wrote is true. It has been a tough season. It did begin to wear on me. My LakerSteve post last April didn't fool anyone. Of course, I played that one for laughs. I just re-read it. Good stuff. I crack me up some times. Sad too, though, what with the Brand references.
Anyway, the farewell post worked, because as I was writing it, I could really see it happening. It's completely true that I can't see myself doing this three more years. What's not true is that I'm ready to move on. Not yet. Heck, the season's almost over. It won't be long now before the Clippers are tied for first in the Western Conference with that lovely 0-0 record. I love that 0-0 record - so full of hope. Like a Christmas present waiting to be opened. Of course, Clipper fans tend to find socks and underwear inside instead of a puppy.
I probably should have given some people the head's up. Like the ClipperWidow. She saw the headline of the post and was so happy for just a moment - before she realized what day it was. Or Matt at Blog-a-bull, who runs SBNation's NBA network and who would have had the task of finding a new Clippers blogger. He was kind of freaking out this morning. With Kevin locked up at ESPN, it might not have been easy. It's not really a growth industry, blogging about LA's other team.
Kelly Dwyer at Ball Don't Lie (probably my favorite basketball writer in the world, btw) fell for it - again, because it made logical sense to him. He doesn't understand (or maybe he does) how there can be savvy basketball people in the universe who actually root for the Clippers. We're an enigma, citizens. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, KD. Sorry about the fish hook in your lip.
Interestingly, these events sort of coalesced into a decision to retire the ClipperSteve moniker. Sure, it helps prolong the April Fool's gag for like a nanosecond - and I'm never one to kill a good gag too early. But if I don't see myself doing exactly this for three more years, I do see myself doing something in this field, hopefully in some brave new world of sports coverage. The blogosphere has clearly matured and blogs are being taken much more seriously. It's sadly evident in Los Angeles, a market of a mere 17 Million people, that local newspaper coverage of teams without banners in the rafters is going to continue to diminish and perhaps disappear altogether.
I will probably end up writing my J-school master's thesis on the subject of credibility, specifically the credibility of bloggers versus traditional sports journalists: how to measure it, what impacts it, that sort of thing. I have conducted any research yet, but intuitively it would seem that ClipperSteve might lack some credibility. Who is this guy? Why doesn't he use his real name? What is he hiding?
I'd been thinking about it for awhile, but seeing Dwyer's post, with 'ClipperSteve' side by side with 'Kevin Arnovitz' sort of crystalized it for me. Kevin Arnovitz just sounds so much more professional. Maybe I should change my name to Kevin.
Anyway, thank you to everyone for their kind words. I wasn't really thinking about the whole 'fishing for compliments' angle on this. I just thought it would be kind of funny. So anyway, an outpouring of adulation - that's just a bonus.
So say goodbye to ClipperSteve and hello to Steve Perrin. The blogger is dead. Long live the blogger.

And there you go
Well that works. I thought if it was a joke, you would go radio silence for a few days and then just post the preview before the Laker game like nothing ever happened. Oh well, I definately fell for it. Happy your not walking….
Denver tomorrow...
I don’t think I could have held out longer than that. But Dwyer’s post caught me by surprise a little. I mean, people actually read BDL.

Initially, I fell for it too :)
Until people started to point out that it could be an April Fool’s joke, which made me quickly look at the date.
So what’s the deal? Are you going to retire the legendary “ClipperSteve” and go with the uptight no-nonesense name “Steve Perrin”?
Well, just wanna say glad to have you back CS, and welcome Steve Perrin!
"This kid is the best new talent in the league right now, and I don't care who else you mention." -Suns Coach, Alvin Gentry, on Clippers rookie sensation, Eric Gordon.
i'm sure some new citizen...
will revive the name…via a “ghost of” or “the carcass of” moniker…
Does that mean Zhiv will change is handle too? Ever heard of a poet named Citizen Zhiv?
Such an emotional rollercoaster.
Posting and Toasting: "Say yo Oak, what's the dish tonight? A couple steaks on the grill and we season it right."
So now do we all have to reveal our real names?
I’m already using mine.
I swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.
You’re a hundred percent right, in order to be taken seriously, ClipperSteve had to go. RIP.
It seems a lot of bloggers come to that place too...
The BigLead went public with his identity. Best of all was when the FireJoeMorgan guys revealed their identity and they turned out to be writers for the office.
So when I start googling the name Steve Perrin am I going to find you on any IMDB lists?

Oh no
Just when I thought I had managed to escape, you pull me back in. Bastard.
How does one divorce the Clippers?
I thought: when Kaman goes, I go. But CS/SP goes, I’ll really go.
But no, SP stays, Kaman has been replaced in my affections with EJ and the bat goes on. And on. And on.

You should probably change your email too
ZomgHeartClippers@ hotmail.com isn’t very pro either.
Get me BD and 75 and I'm in
This wretched joke will get you good Karma
Though like Dwyer, I understood the sentiment. I’ve often thought that the reason people were Clipper fans is that they lived in a Sterling-owned development and it was part of the lease agreement to support the team or lose the deposit.
but I’m REALLY happy you’re still blogging

How I really Feel
Ok.
I bought it. It got me thinking though why I am still wasting my time with these guys.
I grew up watching the Casey Stengle Mets. At least they were lovable losers. No love here.
So I turn to Clark W. Griswold……………………………………..
"Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I’d like Donald T Sterling the Clippers owner, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Big Money Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, fore-fleshing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is.
OK I feel better.
This is good news...
but the prospect of you leaving in the near future isn’t. There aren’t really any other reasons to be a Clipper fan at this point in time. You should stick with ClipperSteve, in my humble opinion. I like this place, and I don’t want it to change (except I’d love to be discussing Clipper victories). I’ll enjoy you for as long as you stay here, and I hope that you do go off to bigger and better things, though I’m not sure what could be better than blogging for the Clippers.

Wasn't there a discussion?
…recently led by Jax that things on the Clips could not get any worse?
Well, they almost did get worse… a whole lot worse…
But then Steve Perrin made us all feel a whole lot better… welcome back.

Hi Steve
I am going to miss Steve but hope that Steve is as great of a blogger as Steve. Steve was one of my favorites and a real magician with a key board. A key board wizard as The Who might have said had they lived long enough. Steve, you have big shoes to fill from that Steve guy.
Good luck Steve. And good luck to you, Steve.
