Looks like his current club has a $6million euro buyout if he is to actually come over here. Also, it appears that Rubio will only come over here if he is taken in one of the first three spots, which is highly likely. It would just be the Clippers luck if they end up getting the third position and missing out on both Griffin AND Rubio.

I think

the team that drafts him pays the buyout. I believe the buyout doesn’t count towards the salary cap, more like money out of pocket. Kinda like how the rights to negotiate with certain Japanese baseball players are up for bid prior to the player ever signing a contract.
One scenario is that the team drafts him, but leaves him in Europe. That team would then not have to pay the buyout, but would retain his draft rights. I think that is how it works.
