SI's NBA Best & Worst Owners
SI.com identified the five best and five worst owners in each of the four major team sports. The method was not scientific but based on numerous factors, some of which are indisputable and some of which are intangible. Among the criteria used to evaluate owners was the willingness to spend money to improve the team; the stability and capabilities of the front office and management; the amenities at the team's venue; and the club's culture and interactivity with fans. Of course, weighing heavily in the decision was the team's success or failure on the field. (Note: Records are through 2008-09 regular season.)

Dan Gilbert cracks the top 5 by having the brilliance to draft Lebron
Hilarious.
"So what are the odds that the Clippers can compete next season given their limited flexibility? Slim and none."
Great point
So the move that made him a top 5 owner was merely the act of purchasing the team.
And the move that has the chance to drop him to bottom 5, Lebron choosing to walk away for bigger pastures, he also likely has little control over.
Enjoy the ride Mr. Gilbert.

Him leaving will be decided by if they win the championship
If they win I don’t think that Lebron will leave for greener pastures since there aren’t much greener then a championship team. If they lose I think he definitely leaves.

no because
he let his gm build the best team possible around lebron. he coulda easily been like New Orlean who surrounded Chris Paul with crap players beside David West.
Wait
The Hornets won 56 games and their division last year in what has to be in the discussion for toughest division in the era of the current alignment with the Spurs also winning 56 games, the Rockets 55 and the Mavs 51.
Wait, I guess I have to add that to Gilbert’s credentials. He inhereted Lebron AND had the smarts to purchase a team playing in the Least. nothing wrong with that.

Not sure I agree about New York
he will be if they don’t get someone big in 2010 but it is hard to say tell then.

The Dolans are horrible...
…maybe not worse than DTS, but it’s an interesting argument… the Knicks are bad and they have one of the highest payrolls in all of sport. Will they get better? They certainly have a better management team now but the ONLY play they have is to bring in a big player via free-agency… and there’s really only one they want. Will they get him? Who’s on the Knicks that’s better than the other Cleveland starters. No one.
And, oh yeah, quick, who do you take with the sixth pick in last year’s draft, Danilo Gallinari or Eric Gordon? Wrong answer.
agreed
One thing the Knicks will always have though is location. They are the media center of the country (some would say the world but that is closed minded) players will go there just to play in NYC. Although they will get some competition once The Nets move to Brooklyn.
