SAN FRANCISCO -- I talked to one NBA executive in Los Angeles on Tuesday who said it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Clippers reoffer Baron Davis to the Warriors for Corey Maggette if the Clips can land Ricky Rubio in the draft. The Clippers are big fans of Rubio, and obviously they can't play him with Davis.
The Warriors turned down similar overtures at the trade deadline, but they might want to reconsider. With a healthy Davis, they would be a playoff team. But as of now, they lack a regular point guard and look as if they could be making another trip to the lottery.
• The Clippers and Blazers were among several teams in Reseda, Calif., on Monday watching a workout with Nick Calathes, Jrue Holiday, Earl Clark and Jon Brockman.
One of the NBA executives in the gym had high praise for Calathes.
"He's a better passer than I thought he was," the executive said. "He really had a good feel for the pick-and-roll drills. I like how he sees the floor. If he can prove he can defend and hit that jump shot consistently, I think he's a really intriguing guy."
The same executive said Holiday has the most upside: "He doesn't look like he's totally confident out there. He's still thinking a lot. But you look at the raw talent and say in two or three years he could be special. If you're willing to wait, there is a lot to like there. I think he just needs to believe again."
