Over at my blog, I threw out a few options for the Clippers this offseason.
Would you be willing to deal Eric Gordon/Camby for Vince Carter (or another veteran 2 guard) and maybe use the #1 pick to make a run at Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh?
Would you rather try to dump the vet salaries you have and build around Griffin and Gordon?
I went with the latter, with my plan going like:
1. Hold onto Zach until he has value as an expiring deal next offseason. Keep Camby for a mid-season deal or just to get his money off of the payroll.
2. Deal Baron and Al Thornton to Philly for Sam Dalembert, Thad Young, and Philly's #17 pick. Dalembert's deal ends at the same time as Z-Bo's.
3. Deal Chris Kaman for Kirk Hinrich. The key here is that Hinrich's salary decreases in the next couple of years while Kaman's increases in the future.
4. Draft Blake Griffin.
5. Re-sign Steve Novak.
That gives the Clips a young core of Griffin, Young, Gordon, and whatever PG you grab at #17. 2009-10 would be a lost year but you could add another talented youngster in the draft, the Clippers would have two big expiring deals to play with in the 2010 offseason, and Kirk Hinrich's 8 million dollars would be the only major contract still on the books into 2011.
