Chad Ford Latest Rumor
The hottest rumor at the camp Thursday had the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder in hot and heavy talks about a swap of the No. 1 pick for the No. 3 pick. I heard a number of variations, including Oklahoma City sending Jeff Green to Los Angeles and another in which the Thunder take back one of the Clippers' bad contracts, particularly those of Zach Randolph or Chris Kaman.
But Clippers general manager Mike Dunleavy told me Thursday afternoon that all of this talk about his team trading the No. 1 pick to the Thunder (or any other team) is hooey. While Dunleavy has had to backtrack after saying publicly that the Clippers would draft Blake Griffin with the top pick (which violated the unwritten rule that you're not supposed to announce your pick until draft night), all signs are pointing strongly toward L.A. selecting Griffin and keeping him.

As MDsr says...
It’s hooey.

better be that's a terrible trade
I really don’t want anything from the Thunder short of Durant

Kaman...
Funny thing is, Kaman is exactly what OKC needs. So this rumor has them trading up to get hometown hero Griffin AND filling their biggest need at the same time, in the guise that OKC is doing the Clippers some sort of favor by taking Kaman’s ‘bad’ contract. Kaman’s contract isn’t particularly bad. This rumor doesn’t even pass the laugh test.

I wonder...
If the real talk isn’t Kaman and a future pick for #3. OKC can’t be enamored with anyone they’ll get at #3. In fact, various reports indicate that they don’t even want Rubio as they’re committed to letting Westbrook play the point.
Yeah his contract isn't even that bad.
Kaman has his weakness’ but he’s still a servicable big when healthy. He still holds strong value and trading Kaman for Green is ludicrous. Switching picks along with the trade is insane.

Your whole statement is exactly why I think Griffin is such a terrific fit for the Clippers
This just makes me despise DTS and Roeser even more. This should be a gravy train for you guys, and yet you gotta sorta through this crap daily.
The Clippers should have moved to Anaheim 15 years ago, and the NBA long ago should have forced Sterling out. Egads.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
So basically...
Ford is saying that other GMs are talking BS and the Clips are saying it’s BS…great insight there Mr. Ford.
And why do we need to get rid of Kaman or Z-Bo if we’re NOT getting Griffin? If anything, we actually need both of those guys if we’re drafting Rubio.
The laughable thing
is that why would the CLippers want the #3 pick when there is no guarantee that Rubio will be there then? That’s the only other guy the Clippers would want in this draft, right? Why trade if that is not even a guarantee. This scenario makes no sense what so ever, and I think we all know that.
Do or do not. There is no try.
I too think this is beyond laughable
But I’m guessing the deal would be predicated on Rubio being selected by OKC then the trade happens.
by Michael White on May 29, 2009 1:30 PM PDT up reply actions
So this deal could be
submarined by Memphis at the drop of a hat. Why go to all the trouble then? Doesn’t sound as if Chad Ford is doing all his homework here.
Do or do not. There is no try.
In Ford's defense...
He does say that Dunleavy calls it all hooey. He heard a rumor, one reported that one of the principals says it a load of crap… that’s fine. We’ve seen much less responsible rumor mongering than that, let’s face it.

You are right...
but it makes just a little sense to follow the whole scenario through and at least mention that there would be one more team involved in this scenario (Memphis) and the Clippers would want a guarantee of getting Rubio. As it stands, most uniformed readers would just take what he said not see all the holes in it. And yes, he does say Clippers management has called it hooey…which makes me ask why even report this?
Do or do not. There is no try.
That's a good question...
But he’s got to report something, I guess. But yeah, if it doesn’t pass the sniff test, and one of the parties has told him it’s bunk, why write it?

Hoopsworld does that all the time...
Mention some ridiculous rumor that someone else made up, then explain why it’s bunk… yet to them it still qualifies as news.

Maybe Ford's misreading the "bad contract"...
In other words, the bad contract isn’t Kaman (or Randolph) at all, it’s Baron. So, you get Green and Rubio, and you give up Griffin and Davis. As pointed out, giving up Kaman makes no sense if you’re giving up Griffin as well.
Personally, all these rumors are fine, but I don’t think Dunleavy’s giving up anything until he works out Griffin and (possibly) Rubio.
HMMMMMMM.
This is definitely a lateral move. Not to take to much away from Green’s game, but he plays a little better because he sees himself as Durant’s Pippen. Maryland natives, Durant and Green have played AAU with each other for a long while and no each other’s game. Now if you separated them I think it would impact Green’s game a little bit.
Do you remember the last time AAU/ high school buddies played ball?
Q Richardson & Darius Miles….
Green Green does have some solid stats and does play well
But i’d take the gamble over what Grffin could become over what Green has already proved. Griffin already seems to be slated on a different level as Green though he has yet to prove anything. Still we could be giving up a Boozer/Malone/Amare for Green. Not worth it at all.

That would be Jeff Green.
Gerald Green you can have for a cup of coffee.

andy katz
reporting from the nba draft combine spoke with dunleavy about trading the no.1 pick. dunleavy’s response the no.1 pick is NOT FOR SALE. but other players could be.
Just got done watching the NBA Combine
Andy Katz interviewed Blake and asking him the prospect of being a clipper. Blake said “He’s excited about just playing and you never know where you end up in the draft”.( Keep in mind Blake finished drills and looks winded)
Chad ford’s take from the interview, “For a number 1 pick, he doesn’t seem excited about being a clipper and does not want to be there”
Jay Williams and Steve Lavin’s take, “He’s a professional and poised in the interview, you have to like a kid like that”
Why all the hate from Ford? Why does Ford hate the clippers so much that he makes up rumors?
Over the years, I don’t remember one rumor he has ever been on point. I’m going to stick w/ Hoopsworld.
""For a number 1 pick, he doesn’t seem excited about being a clipper and does not want to be there""
Oh Chad, I’ve got two words for you…

What really sticks our from Ford's comments is...
“and does not want to be there”
seems to be putting words in Blakes mouth. Sure no one wants to be apart of a team that just had one of their worst seasons ever but don’t go making a comment like that. LA is a huge market for him. Ford has always put the Clippers down. He has some deep childish issues with us and has always been unprofessional when writing anything about the Clips.

I HAVE A BORING/EASY JOB THAT
ALLOWS ME TO BE CONSTANTLY ONLINE. IN REGARDS TO CHAD FORD I CAN NOT THINK OF ONE THING THAT HE PREDICTED THAT ENDED UP BECOMING FACT.
Chad Ford is an idiot
He’s the main guy that these rumors are coming from. He hates the Clippers and never gives them any love.
As cars50 said… Andy Katz mentioned during the combine that the Clippers were told by the league not to say who they are taking. He also stated that both Dunleavy and Neil Olshey have been telling teams that the pick isn’t for sale.
The Clippers don’t get any love because they have been a laughing stock franchise for 90% of their career. You can hardly complain when no one gives us respect when you are look at the track record. Several years ago it looked liked we could put all that behind us, but once again we’ve been back to the lottery three years running.
When we start to win on a regular basis we will get respect, until then we are/have been one of the worse sport franchises in history when it comes to winning% and we have hardly earned any respect. Add in one of the creepiest owners in sports, why would someone want to play 2nd fiddle to the Lakers in the same building?
Blake may help turn around the franchise but I doubt this is the place he’d choose if given a choice.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen
Plus 1 - again - intelligent post
On a related note, I heard from a friend in Philly today that the rumor there is that Elton Brand is on the trading block because his style doesn’t fit with the team.
FElton run his course?
Already? Man, they didn’t even have him for a whole year and they might want to get rid of him? Well, I guess if you are EB you don’t really care since he barely even played with these guys and he will still get paid either way. That’s crazy to imagine, but then again, BDavis is close to getting run out of town here, so it shouldn’t surprise me. I wonder what it would take to acquire EB…..his last 2 seasons have not done much for his reputation (both physically and personally).
Do or do not. There is no try.
Still other terrible team don't nearly recieve the critism we do.
It doesn’t help that our management also brings a lot of stupidity to the table but we get hit below the bet way more than anyone else.

Why does he still have a job?
The only thing Ford is good for is his lottery machine.
Here's an interview published by hoopsworld this morning. Obviously I can't hear his tone of voice but nowhere did I pick up he "doesn't want to be here". As someone posted above he's "professional and poised in the interview, you have to like a kid like
Blake Griffin:
On fitting into the league: “I think a lot of people have the idea that all I do is dunk, all I do is make layups. Hopefully I can show that I’m a little more versatile than that… that I can score a little from outside and that I can dribble a little bit…be more [than] a one-dimensional player. I’m definitely going to have to adjust in a lot of different ways [in the NBA].”
How his game translates: “Especially last year, I was really one of our leaders, I had the experience of starting and playing in a lot of games. I’m just going to try to come in and learn on the fly next year and do as best I can and from there, keep it going. [It’s] definitely a goal [to be a starter]…depends on where I go and what I’m asked to do, but it’s definitely a goal.”
Where he might fit best: “[Dunleavy is] possibly one of my next coaches…I believe him [when he says the Clippers are definitely drafting me]. Anything can happen. If I’m playing with the Clippers, just bring something they don’t have. Hopefully I can use my game as a filler and help fill a gap that they need, something like that. They have a lot of great players and they have guys that are very capable and they won’t need me to come in and do all these different things ‘cause they have those, so if I could just help advance the team. In my mind, I always have something to prove, I have a lot to prove. There’s always people out there saying that I can’t do this, I can’t do that and in my mind, I want to prove them wrong. I feel like I have something to prove at all times. We’ll find out, I don’t know, I hope so [being a good fit in LA]. There’s a lot of guys out there that I guess you could compare guys to, but I’m trying to be my own person.”
