Hoopsworld Article on the Clippers

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=12906

Decent article about the things we've discussed here.  Mainly what we are going to do with all our bigs, what options we have and such.  I thought the analysis of the pros and cons of each big man was well-reasoned.

Is anyone else psyched up for next year?  I wasn't going to renew my season tickets but the team got lucky and sucked me back in by getting the 1st pick.

Dallas should look at one of Kaman or Randolph

We could take back Stackhouse’s expiring deal

Dallas

mavs will only look at Kaman, since he and Dirk were on the German National Team.

Clips Nation Usage Alert...

This should be a FanShot, not a FanPost. (My goal for this summer is to get some standards cleaned up.)

The main thrust of this item is an external link – that’s why it’s a FanShot. That’s also why there’s no word count minimum on Fanshots but there is on FanPosts. I know that FanShot’s appear ‘below the fold’ and as such get less discussion. But with the new Clipper Clippings post, I’m trying to move the most relevant external links onto the front page together (this one is already on the list, but I’m just running a little behind today.)

The other thing we need to do better as a community is use the ‘recommend’ feature. If you find yourself adding a ‘+1’ comment, stop and hit actions → recommend. The FanPosts and FanShots that get recommended float to the top of the lists, and stay around longer. The less interesting stuff gets pushed down the list.

End of lecture.

Roger Sterling: I bet there were people in the Bible walking around, complaining about "kids today."
Don Draper: Kids today, they have no one to look up to. Cuz they're looking up to us.

Good article

Not enough trade scenarios, but a pretty good article. My main quibble is that he says “that doesn’t even mention DeAndre Jordan” early on, but then talks about being thin in the center rotation if Camby or Kaman goes. If he doesn’t think that DJordan is ready to step into bigger minutes next season, just say so—that’s a valid opinion.

This is turning into a pet peeve. Can anybody tell me why people keep forgetting about DeAndre Jordan, not factoring him in? Were the excellent rookie seasons of Eric Gordon and Mike Taylor (not really comparable to each other, I know) the limit for comprehension? This article mentioned him at least, but then almost had to go out of its way not to talk about him.

What I’d love to see is a story somewhere—besides us talking about it—comparing DJordan to Thabeet. Maybe just getting KA’s take in the summit, although a David Thorpe analysis would be great: the Clips get the first pick, we start to get a little demanding, I know. Actual intelligent media analysis is a lot to ask.

Funny you should ask...

This came up in Pincus’ chat yesterday -

Leonard in Roanoke, Virginia:
Hi Eric, an east coast Clippers fan here: If DeAndre Jordan were in this draft, where do you think he would go? If 2008 was re-drafted, where would he go? Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Eric Pincus:
If Jordan had a good second year in college, he’d be considered top 10 or even higher. He could be battling Thabeet for top big man in the draft. DeAndre was a fantastic second-round pick up for the Clippers. He’s also a very funny dude.

Not thorough analysis, but the Jordan vs. Thabeet theme is raised.

I'll take DJ over Thabeet

Any day, all day. Thabeet lacks passion for the game.

Only time will tell.

There was a difference between the two post up games. Hell, I’d give the D to Thabeet. Monster down there. But DJ’s a funny dude. Everybody in the lcoker room have already stated how funny the Taylor/ Jordan combo is.

Mike Smith on Eric Gordon: "The Clippers may have found their go to scorer."
On a second note, I want Novak back!

Hmm

Depends on a number of things, I prefer DJ because he’s alot cheaper (he makes the minimum, Thabeet will get top 5 draft pick money) and we got him for next to nothing, so he’s been a terrific “value” pick for us. Thabeet is the better defender but I think DJ shows a nastier streak (especially on offense) and will probably be a better offensive player.

DJ must be thinking about it. If BJ Mullens is a top 20 pick then DJ is surely a lottery pick. Especially if he had ANY growth his next year at Texas A&M.

Personality

Personality is an important factor, a crucial one actually in the long term view. The fact that Jordan is fun and funny, that he loves to sky and dunk and block shots and rebound, and he’s still a kid, are all very good signs.

“A fantastic second-round pick up.” Nice.

the thought of DJ getting to battle against blake griffin

in practice everyday for the foreseeable future excites me. they seem to know each other as it is, which is good. hopefully some of blakes desire rubs off on DJ over the course of the next few years, cause thats one athletically freaky duo that could be a LOT of fun to watch!
