To the Clippers' dismay, they then had to stay silent amid reports they were wavering between Griffin and Ricky Rubio -- Same old Clippers, can't get anything right-- which almost certainly came from Rubio's agent, Dan Fegan, dismayed to find his glamorous client was looking at Memphis or Oklahoma City, picking No. 2 and No. 3.
Clippers' secret is out - Los Angeles Times
Now that the Finals are over, Mark Heisler can write a Clippers column, and it's a good one - one of his classic open letters to Donald Sterling.

I’m not sure that I buy Heisler’s overall approach. Isn’t this an elaborate version of an “all the Clippers care about is dumping salary” article? He’s telling “dear Donald” don’t do it, but there’s no indication that anybody at the Clippers is trying to dump salary.
It was nice of Heisler to spend a little time on the Clippers in his post-Finals, pre-draft, pre-vacation article, but it kind of had to be done with the Clips holding the top pick. Isn’t the Dear Donald meme a little tired at this point—isn’t there some other way to write about the Clippers, the “other” NBA team in one of the biggest cities in the country, when you’re the lead NBA writer at the major newspaper? Shouldn’t Heisler have a cutesy way of writing about MDSr. at this point?
It would be nice to see a thoughtful story about the way in which the fortunes of MDSr have been restored by the Clips getting the #1 pick. Where he could have been well on his way out the door, the Clips floundering and trying to get their money’s worth out of him through one more hopeless year, now he’s got another legitimate shot at getting his roster together and building a competitive team. And he’s the guy making the basketball, roster, and trade decisions, with Roeser and DTS signing off on them. The Clips are going to put the pieces together in some way so that they look good on paper at least. They’re the team with the assets, players that might have value and fill holes for other teams, and they’re going to make deals that help the Clippers, rather than servicing other teams needs. If Cleveland really wants Camby, what would make it worthwhile for the Clips? Again, there’s been no indication whatsoever that the Clips would just ship out a player like Camby so that Lebron and the Cavs can improve and be more competitive, while the Clips just cut some salary that would come off their books next year anyway.

Rec'd...
I really like Heisler but I thought this one was thin.

Never really seen Heisler criticize MDSr
Thus, I doubt he’d say that MDSr’s fortunes were ever in need of being restored.

not as negative as the quote makes it appear
but what is really interesting is that he sees us trading Camby, which doesn’t seem likely with reports that we are shopping Kaman. He says that Cleveland and San Antonio would be interested in Camby. But imo I think we should keep him and if things don’t go well hold on to him tell around the trade deadline when his contract is worth most to teams that are competing that need a good big man.

Out of context...
I would actually interpret the quote as positive… it was others saying “Same old Clippers” but Heisler is implying that it was not their fault. They’ve been steadfast, others started rumors, the NBA has made it tough for them to come out and say that the rumors are bogus.

hello clipppers fans, i was wondering if there is any truth the rumors about the clippers possibly moving zach randolph to cleveland. if randolph is staying with the clips, how does that shape your starting line-up? does randolph play pf, and griffin sf?

Yeah we have been talking about it here for a while
it seems they may be truth in the Cleveland rumors since they were trying to get Shaq which shows they are looking for a big man. But it doesn’t seem like it has picked up. If Randolph is still here then there is a possibility that Griffin can play sf but I am not in favor of it but it might work. The other option is one comes off the bench and does 6th man duty. At first it would probably be Griffin off the bench but hopefully soon Griffin will be starting. But we will have to figure it out once we find out what our roster is this season.

indeed. randolph is a productive guy, i mean he puts up good stats. however, his performance doesn’t seem to translate into wins—same story while with the knicks. i am in favor of dealing randolph. how about packaging him and baron davis to the grizzlies for the number two pick? with that, the clips can take rubio

a line up of rubio, gordon, thornton, griffin, camby (or kaman) is a decent line up.

I disagree
I am not very high on Rubio. And I think that Baron could be much better since he has been working so hard this summer.

i like baron. the problem is that he cannot stay healthy. to me he seems rather undedicated. he has not done what is necessary to keep an ideal weight that will work in his favor both in performance and injury prevention. i lost a lot of respect for him after seeing him play last season—with seemingly no reason than to collect a check. good luck to you if you think your team’s answer at the pg is baron davis.

Fortunately he has a reason to play now
he has been working out all off season. He has realized that his future and the teams future of the team are tied at the hip and if he wants to ever play anywhere else he has to play better. Hell working out alone made Felton better in 05-06 and resulted in us making the playoffs. I think their is very good chance he will return to form this season.

PERSONAL OPINIONS
Remember most of these sports writers, are writing their articles based on their own personal views, just as we do here on this site,I think most of what he is saying is based on speculations. Chances of him or any of the other sports writers at this time having contact or conversations withh the clippers front office or coaches is slim to none. Actually none of us including Heisler have any idea on what the clippers are going to do in the next couple of weeks regarding trades. the only thing we do know is, we will know in a couple of weeks,so i don’t read into anything Heisler writes, the real conversations about what the Clippers are doing will come when they do it.
