Totally OT: King of Pop & Queen of Angels Die on G-Day
I know. Totally off topic.
But I was thinking about how in a year or two, Clipper fans might look back on this day as the one that HELPED turn things around with the acquisition of one Blake Griffin.
But now this day is even more memorable with the deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.
Dude, I am now OFFICIALLY old.
I remember being a kid and thinking Michael was AWESOME and wishing I could dance like him. How many of us tried to do the moonwalk in our socks on the kitchen floor after our jaws dropped watching the Grammy's?
How many of us saw posters of Farrah Fawcett and wondered if we could ever meet anyone half as beautiful when we grew up? It was so unfair to be a kid when she was so hot - definitely the hottest of all of Charlie's Angels!
Anyhow - just thought I would tie in the non Clipper world on this day just to remind us of people that are lost while the Clippers are gaining #1...
What a day.

Rest In Peace Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawcett
Today was supposed to be a fun and exciting day. I have to say that this day has pretty much sucked as far as I’m concerned. It doesn’t help that I hurt my thumb just before leaving work to watch the draft. I’m happy that we are finally the official team of Blake Griffin, but it’s been a day of sadness for the most part.
I think Michael Jackson
was a big shocker. I mean the media really f-ed up his image, but overall, he was “the king of pop” and im still shocked and baffled.

Driving home from Playa Vista
KCRW was doing a Michael Jackson retrospective – late 70s, early 80s stuff. As they played ‘Dancing Machine’ and ‘Shake Your Body Down to the Ground’ and ‘Ease on Down the Road’ I realized how ingrained Michael Jackson songs are in my very existence. I don’t think I had those albums even – but I knew every word to every song, even though I had not heard them in decades. It’s just weird that he’s gone. He was only 50.
I was also reminded of June 17, 1994. That was the opening day of World Cup 1994. The organizers were desperate to get good media coverage of the event, given the challenges of promoting soccer in the US. But on that day, OJ Simpson was driving down the 405 in a white Bronco – and the World Cup was nowhere to be found on the news. (In a side note, OJ saved my butt that day, because the database locked up for about five minutes at the conclusion of one match, but I think I was the only person who noticed as everyone else was glued to the ‘low speed chase’ on TV, and we got the problem fixed before anyone cared.) At any rate, Michael Jackson’s death is clearly the story of June 25, 2009.
In this world, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant. Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. - Elwood P. Dowd
Care to explain
why the database locking up saved your butt?
