Attention Olshey, Dunleavy, & Roeser
Dear Dunleavy, Olshey, & Roser
You guys did an amazing job at finding Steve Novak in the depths of Houston's bench. He was proven to be an excellent perimeter player that earned his keep, even hitting a game winner against the Nets. I think it doesn't hurt to add a similar role player that offers a deadly permitter threat.
After watching the draft and seeing picks 20 - 60 looking all the same, it would seem very possible to miss on some excellent talent. I wanted to make available two names.
David Holston/ Chicago st. 25.9ppg 3.7rbs 6.4ast 4.6 threes 3stl's
Josh Akognon/ Cal St Fullerton 23.5 ppg 3.2 rbs 1.7 ast 4 threes 1 stl
Stephen Curry/ Davidson 28.4 ppg 4.3 rbs 5.8 ast 3.8 threes 2.6 stls
Both of these guys have a common factor stat wise that allows them to stand out in this draft class... They can drain threes. In comparison to Stephen Curry, you will notice that Holston, like Curry played for teams that didn't have much in the way of talent besides them. They both played for less popular schools in exchange for being the star player of their team. I would like to add that the next highest scorer in Davidson avgd 12 pts. And on Holstons Chicago st. team the next best player avgd 20 points. I added Curry's stats to for pure comparison NOT TO argue that Holston is a better pick up.
I just think for $780,000 a year he would be a goot stash on the bench to back up BD and EJ when needed.
thank you for your time.

david holston is 5’ 8" (if the espn stats are accurate)
thats shorter than nate robinson for god sakes, he wont be able to get his shot off in the nba.
J.J Barea is the same height.
and is a excellent scorer. So don’t go aginst shorter people in the NBA.
Actually
Jose Juan Brea is 6’0 (listed on Yahoo.) Not that I’m holding Yahoo as always being true.

On a second note, I want Novak back!
If you watch or go to a Dallas game and ESPN is where its on
you always hear them saying he’s not 6’0 when he’s on a shooting streak. So they know he’s not 6’0.
Whatever the height of Jose Juan Brea,
he’s not 5’8. Not to my knowledge atleast.

Hahaha
don’t make fun of short people please and thank you. I’m sure Mugsey Bogues wouldnt appreciate it that much. (: Although I shouldnt really say something, he really didn’t make a big impact in terms of scoring..

5'8" or 6'6".... He must have been doing something right. He was considered the best shooter in the NCAA last year!
Minimum Contracts at about $550,000 for a year is a “No Risk” situation. Especially for someone who specializes as a perimeter threat. We Paid the following guys the following amount this year.
Alex Acker $711,517- useless
Check Samb $797,581-useless
Mikey Taylor $550,000-good deal
Deandre Jordan- $550,000 amazing deal
Hassan Adams/Paul Davis(half season each) $268,795 / $301,308- USELESS
I WOULDN’T MIND IF WE GREW SOME BALLS AND LOOKED INTO THE GUY WHO LED D-1 BASKETBALL IN THREES. HE DREW STATISTICAL COMPARISONS TO STEPHEN CURRY… DROP HIM INTO SUMMER LEAGUE ATLEAST…
The problem is
just because you can dominate NCAA doesn’t mean anything. Or just because you can shoot doesn’t mean you can do great in the NBA. Prime example: JJ Reddick of Duke. I didn’t exacty follow NCAA as closely back in the day, but I’m sure we all knew of JJ Reddick and his sweet stroke. I was surprised that he dropped all the way to wherever he was drafted. The reason now is obviously though; he’s just a shooter.
Do i agree that maybe we should give him a try sure, why not. Btw, I really don’t have a clue “WHO” I’m talking about. I haven’t followed any of the players that you have listed. But just wanted to point out great shooters don’t always thrive in the NBA.

Your argument goes both ways.... Just because you didn't dominate in the NCAA doesn't mean you can't dominate in the NBA.
I’m not saying to draft the guy as a lottery pick with the 11th overall pick and commit 10 million… Im saying have the guy come in for the summer league roster and at worst if he kills it we pay him $550,000 one year.
Not throwing a bad prospect out the window
but I think the Clippers might overfill IF we sign back Fred Jones or/and Steve Novak. Think about it, if we this guy is only a shooter( at 5’6 also) he might not be all that he is projected like Novak (6’10).
Even so, I’d probably take a more athletic veteran in Fred Jones over this guy to play in NBA. Of course I’m not rejecting the idea of trying this guy out, but I just don’t see the Clippers using the guy, especially if hans is righjt at 5’6.

Holston can run the point and shoot 3's. He averaged 7 assists a game, 3 steals and 5 3's a game!!
Nate Robinson is 5’9"
Brevin Knight 5’10"
Aaron Brooks 5’10"
jose juan Barea 5’11 or 6’
What I’m trying to say is that you can’t automatically write people off because of their height. As for ESPN and Yahoo, across the board, you can deduct an inch and a half for everyone because those stats are indeed somewhat inflated. So to say that Holston is “only” 5’8" is to say everyone is 2 inches away from they’re listed height so you just have to stick to the espn/yahoo measurements.
When Beasley was drafted, he was supposed to be 6’11" or 6’10". Everyone began to flirt with the idea that he could possibly play the center position. Well when Beasley’s measurements came out, he was actually 6’8"/ 6’8" 1/2. So the miopic minds that were in power finally figured out that Beasley can play the SF position very effectively late in the season.
So to apply our line of thought in this case, Holston is not a shoe in for a roster spot, but he will surely make the same immediate impact that Curry has made in pointless team workouts. During scrimmages, he will drain three’s all day long.
I used the 11th draft pick example uptop because you wanted to compare him to J.J. Reddick. Like I said earlier, it hurts way more to draft a bust that costs you a guaranteed 12 million for 4 years than it does to sign a “flawed gamble” for $550,000 for one year.
True;
but where are we going to put him in the roster? Fred Jones? I rather have Jones playing with his veteran experience.
Not throwing out the idea still, but looking even deeper into the games he was playing, Holston didn’t really have any competition. Arguably his greatest competition was Marquette and Illionis, and even then 1 of the 2 games he preformed horribly. And the game that he did preform pretty good (Marquette), he was playing a team that doesn’t play great team defense at all. You can even say that Kansas State was a competitor, but he didn’t preform all that well in that game (7-25). Something else that I can’t overlook is that he had 10 turnover’s twice (Campbell and Longwod.) Granted, he is probably the main focus at Chicago St., 10 turnovers is a bit much, especially in college.
Thing is, your right. A minimum isn’t a big gamble, especially if we can put him in the D League, but I think there could be a reason why he wasn’t taken this season( he is a senior afterall, and so I would assume he entered the draft?) True that he didn’t get any publicity, but is he to blame? You would think that with those stats, he could possibly get some publicity the same way Stephen Curry did( afterall Davidson isn’t a big college, and isn’t really known for basketball.)
Btw, Akram, how did you hear about this guy? Ths guy practically had no publicity behind him, so you have got to be doing some searching. Did you notice his irregular shot? (Just to change the subject a bit.)
