The often cited Blake Griffin – Amare Stoudemire comparison holds weight at the combine if nowhere else. The two look very similar on paper. Griffin’s no step vert of 32" and max vert of 35.5" are the same as Stoudemire’s, his lane agility time of 10.95 is .24 seconds faster than Stoudemire, and his 3.28 ¾ court sprint mark was a fraction of a second slower than the All-Star forward. The biggest differences between the two in terms of combine measurements lie in Stoudmire's two inch wingspan advantage and Griffin’s ten extra reps on the bench. Though the two look considerably different in how they use their athleticism on the floor, their tests couldn’t have matched up any better for anyone supporting that comparison.

its not THAT important…. if you compare numbers, Griffin is comparable to emeka okafor and udonis haslem (speed, strength) but that doesn’t mean they’ll play the same way. If you want to prove your point that Amare is similar to Griffin (not specifically you SP), I suppose it works to an extent. although youtube clips are more convincing.

I would like to compare him to the mail man (Karl Malone). Similar speed, quickness, size, and power....

In the end, does he have the smarts, the moves, and the shot to get into Malone’s class? I have a sense that he does. Remember that the mail man was the 13th overall pick. Blake is a no-brainer #1 and is built a lot like Malone.

Gotta read the below post by Mike DeStefano of NBAdraft.net on the eve of the lottery. It makes your heart stop as a beleaguered Clipper fan.
The Blake Griffin Sweepstakes

Blake Griffin

The NBA’s Draft Lottery, better known this year as the “Blake Griffin Sweepstakes,” is tomorrow night at 8:30 ET before the Lakers-Nuggets game. In the past two drafts, it wasn’t a huge letdown if you didn’t win the lottery because the two consolation prizes, Kevin Durant and Michael Beasley, were solid alternatives. That’s not the case this year.

While there are some teams that can use the creativity and playmaking skills of the 18-year-old Ricky Rubio, or the length and defensive prowess of UConn’s Hasheem Thabeet, the drop-off in talent is so significant that all fourteen lottery team representatives will be bringing every rabbit’s foot and lucky penny they can find to Secaucus.

For a bunch of these teams, it’s all or nothing. It’s Blake Griffin or it’s “maybe next year.” That’s doesn’t mean no one else in this draft can be a star. It means that Griffin is the only one that will definitely be a star.

Note

I modified jerdog’s post of Mike DeStefano’s write up of Griffin. Please don’t cut and paste entire articles, citizens. It’s bad form.
