I'm in...

I'm at the training center, waiting for the workout to start.

Just said hi to Lisa Dillman.  Lots of media here, national media too.  Bucher, Aldridge, etc.  Ralph's here, looking very casual.

Also some VIP fan types... Matthew Lillard... no Billy, no Frankie.

Stretching out with the trainers… It’s a little surreal, one basketball player getting wrmed up while about 100 people with laptops and cameras watch semi-sliently from the sidelines.

A little Rock Band with the family from time to time, that’s about it. We’ve always had whatever the latest Nintendo console is, for the family friendly stuff. The 13 year old of course wants to play shooters now and plays them at his friends houses. But I never got into it.

Turn and shoot… or turn and drive. I’m not crazy about his shooting motion. He’s got a little hitch. But the ball has good rotation and it goes in.

Hate to say it...

but his shooting mechanics need work. It could be a good thing. He’s known to be a hard worker and a quick study. Maybe his shooting can be significantly improved. but he tends to shoot on the way down, and his extension is not great.

I guess there’s no real chance of him playing the 3, is there?

by PaperClip on Jun 6, 2009 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions

there's two sides of the court

usually when I think ‘He can’t play there’ it’s because of defense. ‘He can’t defend there.’ So the first question is does he have the lateral quickness to defend the three, and most people think he does. On offense, he won’t be super effective away from the basket right now, or rather, defenders are going to give him space and dare him to shoot. this is where the Karl Malone comparison break down for the time being. Of course, Malone wasn’t a great shooter early in his career.

The 09-10 Clippers

The 5 position dunk contest. Mike Taylor at the 1, EJ at the 2, Thornton at the 3, Griffin at the 4, DJ at the 5. I’d pay to watch.

Wow...

I forgot about Fred Jones. He seemed like he could still do it a couple of times last year. Baron’s name is missing on purpose. Did he dunk all season? Seriously, has he EVER dunked as a Clipper? This is THE story of his season in LA, when you think about it.

Questions:

- The obvious is does he think he can play the three…
- Was he coasting the sprint or any other part of the workout in the predraft camp because of injury or soreness?

He wanted to be in a big market

I doubt he has this many ppl covering him at okc, it would just a be a beat writer and Taylor griffin. But this is due to the laker coverage.

Unfortunately

it’s probably DeAndre Jordan lol.

The shot

His shot has the big time hitch like Steve said. It’s amazing though how silky smooth he is before he goes to shoot. Everything is just so fluid.

Working the pick and pop now

He can’t be happey with the way he’s shooting… but it’s a super weird setting. He’s under a microscope here.

Media circus

Steve do you think the Clips did the right thing by letting everyone attend or is this turning into a media circus?

by Hooch20 on Jun 6, 2009 3:57 PM PDT reply actions

Yes..

But we won’t know until the coverage comes in. If all it does it get the national media into this facility, which is a major departure for the organization, it seems like a positive. But clearly it would be better for everyone if he was hitting his jumpers.

Great Point

I was thinking that—just getting all of these reporters into the new Clipper training facility is a major coup. That, plus showing off future Clipper BG, would add up to a little respect in most situations.

It should be interesting to see if there are any good, knowledgable questions about the Clips roster and its future. And I’d be curious to hear about the general vibe you get from Dunleavy: stubborn jerk, professional, enthusiastic? He should be excited about the Clippers prospects.

Because of Blake’s hitch in his release, the clippers are looking to trade the #1 pick for a player without a hitch..
