Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Liveblogging Grizzlies-Thunder - July 12

I arrived in Las Vegas about an hour ago, I've got my credential and I've got a wireless connection.  Life is good.  As it happens, the first game I'm catching is Memphis versus Oklahoma City - two of the more interesting summer league teams here.

Starting lineups:

OKC -

PG - Westbrook

SG - Harden

SF - Livingston

PF - D.J. White

C - Ibaka

Memphis -

PG - Marcus Williams

SG - Sam Young

SF - Demarre Carroll

PF - Darrell Arthur

C - Hasheem Thabeet

That's a lot of recent top 5 picks.

Thabeet

He’s long… but he needs to finish stonge around the rim. He’s getting offensive rebounds that HAVE to be dunks. That’s one thing that DeAndre does not have to learn.

Marcus Williams

has lost weight. He looked awful last yeaf withthe Warriors, and deserved to be cut. He’s in much better shape now.

Serge Ibaka

Is a project center for the Thunder from the Congo (I think, someone check me). He has looked TERRIBLE in this game. 4 touches within 3 feet of the hoop, and no points. Two airballs. He’s hesitant to say the least.

Project forward.

Stuck in limbo.

Livingston

Hasn’t done a lot yet. Part of the problem is that Westbrook dominates the ball so much. Shaun is wearing a much smaller brace than at this time last year. He’s got a leg sleeve also, but the brace looks pretty normal, which would see to be a good sign for him.

Livingston

What’s his role really at SF? I guess OKC wasn’t kidding about having Westbrook, Harden, and Livingston play simultaneously. I’m curious to see how this goes.

Liv

They had him bring the ball up some at SF. Harden was a good pick for them because he can shoot, whereas that’s a weakness for both RW and SL.

continuing the thought...

RW is not a true point… Liv is… so that’s a good fit… but tht back court would need to make some shots.

Westbrook

The kid is a major athlete. When you see an NBA player who’s that much quicker than other NBA players, it’s kind of mind-blowing. How is it even possible? HOWEVER – all the complaints I had about him last season are evident today. He’s not a great shooter, he turns the ball over. It’s an exaggeration (though not much of one) to compare him to Mike Taylor… all the things we complain about with Taylor apply somewhat to Westbrook. Westbrook is better… but they both have a lot to work on.

hes much bigger guy than taylor

He was the same height as Harden and he has very long arms. He could lead the league in steals one day.

Hm..

playing with Ben Howland sure helps his defense alot also. But I think leading the leagues in steals is too much. Maybe top 3?

Hamad Haddadi

is really big and really long… but he’s not much of a ballplayer yet. Miight be a good long term investment. Hard to say.

Harden...

As I said after the NCAA tourney, I worry about his ability to step up. He was terrible in the two most important games of his college career. And he’s having trouble getting shots in this game.

Interview

Camby was funny. After talking about the Celtics, Cavs, and Magic, there was this:

Commentator: “Marcus, who do you think will win the championship next year?”

Camby: “The Clippers”

They were all laughing. They also talked a little about Dunleavy’s playbook, and how it’s a good system but so many things to memorize.

Where would the Clippers be without Sean Rooks?

The summer league is a great event for hoop junkies. Mike Conley was commentating as well.

just that he never was on a team that needed him.

not entirely true

The Warriors definitely needed him last year but he was overweight. I think he can be a solid pg in the nba though. Westbrook was able to get by him easily on defense though

Hmm, Just wanted to add that

all the time he was with Warriors, he never really did play much. I dont know the reason, but Marcus Williams overweight? Couldnt have been as bad as Baron… Just saying (:

Anyways, Don Nelson is Don Nelson, might as well play Maggette at Center also, right? Anyways, just wanted to sa i still believe in Williams.

Btw, whatever happened to Marcus Williams that was playing for the Clippers last year?

he played maggs at pf a lot. he is a crack head.

i dont think williams was really that overweight. it was more that he just didnt play the type of game that nelson liked, and nelson dog housed him like he does with a lot of his players.

by hans007 on Jul 13, 2009 12:10 AM PDT up reply actions

Williams looks totally different

the Marcus Williams I watched today is in MUCH better shape than the one with the Dubs last year. So, how overweight is relative I suppose, but he definitely worked a lot harder recently to firm up.

Spurs

Finished last season with the Spurs, I think. But I don’t know if he’s on a summer league roster. I assume he is, but I don’t know where.

Is anybdoy else a bit curious

of Guillermo Diaz, Jared Jordan, or Lionel Chalmers?

For some reason, all of them had their upside. Jordan never really was a Clipper, and Chalmers seemed like an awesome pick out of Xavier because of his speed. Diaz was a tall leaper.

As for Jordan, he was a great passer. Think the Clippers can pick Jordan up and put him in the D-League?

Just looked at the end game stats and

Thabeet is looking like a bust. really 2 rebounds if he can’t rebound in summer league then he is not going to be able to rebound. Doesn’t look like anyone really had a good game though. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s game.

In Gordon we trust

but it really is stupid that we have to pay for the Las Vegas one but not the Orlando one.
