I copped it from KA, but it's too good to miss. Clips making offer to Sessions, Grgurich?

I was just about to post this

Really positive news from Stein. Grgurich is a huge step in the right direction. I’m shocked they’re even making such a good basketball, non-hype move.

Same with Sessions. And from the article, it sounds like the basketball people in the Clippers share my view on Sessions v. Iverson, while the idiot Sterling wants Iverson.

The distinct vibe in the stands at UNLV’s Cox Pavilion is that the Clippers — apart from owner Donald Sterling — would greatly prefer to add more of a set-up man to a backcourt rotation that already features Baron Davis and emerging star Eric Gordon as opposed to signing Allen Iverson to a one-year deal up to the full $5.9 million midlevel exception.

I really hope they sign Sessions. I can’t stress enough what a good pick up that would be. A starting caliber PG who is only 23 and getting better. He’s the perfect guy to backup Baron now, and take over in a few years when he’s in his prime and Baron’s done. He’ll have had time to grow with Gordon and Griffin.

Yeah, I almost mentioned you in my post...

At least Sessions is back on top of the fanshots… maybe you should put your thoughts together in a fanpost with all the links (Yeah, I’m good at finding stuff for other people to do).

this is exciting

i really hope this works out.

this would be multi dimensional pickup, helps today and tomorrow gives us flexibility in the backcourt.

its probably going to be a multi year deal though if it happens. which makes all those cinderalla/lebron dreams in flux. of course this is all vapor anyways. we can always jettison some useless parts (creatively) if we get real serious with someone in 2010.

after watching taylor flail his way through two summer league games (earily similar to last year), getting a good distibutor (with a solid ass/to ratio) is looking like a real good idea.

i still think

Most other teams wont have the money to sign a big name in 2010. LBJ will want a big market and a good season could definitely bring him here. The dude wants to be the first billionaire, why wouldnt he want to come to LA? So I wouldn’t sign Sessions to a multi year deal that takes away our cap space. And the Clips can’t get him away from Milwaukee by offering a one year deal for the MLE.
But, there are still rumors of the Clippers trying to trade Kaman. What if theyre considering trading Kaman for Sessions in a sign and trade? I wouldnt think thats a bad idea necessarily because I’m getting more excited about Jordan getting more minutes this year and we still have Camby and Griffin locked in. Thoughts?

might be interesting

if clips could pull a 2 way switcheroo somehow.

like kaman for some really good starting 3 who plays d.

get sessions with the trade exception and a second rounder.

in other words, i would want to get more for kaman than just sessions considering sessions can be picked up for something close to free.

perhaps there is a magical trade scenario that yields the clips the gluedude and the complimentary guard, all for the price of kaman (hopefully we can shed the rickydavis contract in there too, lets clean house).

i do like djordan, but he’s far from being able to replace what kaman does offensively.

Is that what this is now? The summer of 2010 is all or nothing for LeBron?

…and only LeBron? So everyone is clearing space just to attract ONE player? Let’s see, here’s the list: Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Paul Pierce (ETO), Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd. Uh, Wade seems unlikely, Bosh and Stoudemire don’t fit. Paul Pierce is an ETO, Ray Allen is old, of the rest only Joe Johnson makes sense.
So, it’s King James or Joe Johnson… and Johnson isn’t going to cost anywhere near the max. With the addition of a good player or two this year, who fit the long range plans of the team, aren’t you better serving your team now and later? Don’t forget the Clips will also have to start thinking about signing Al Thornton long term next year… and you might want to resign Camby as well… especially if you think Jordan’s ready and you can get value for Kaman.

Sessions might be a better fit than any of the 2010 FA's

We won’t have cap room to offer LeBron a max contract as things stand now anyway. Joe Johnson is a fine talent, but he’s much more of a shooting guard than a small forward. He doesn’t help with our rebounding deficiencies on the wings.

Sessions seems like an ideal fit for the Clippers behind Baron, who even in the best case scenario is always going to be an injury risk. He’d give us one of the best backup PG’s in the league and could become a very solid starter down the road.

my point

is that even if we dont get lebron we’ll have more and better options next season. Although Sessions is good, I dont want to get rid of any chance of getting Lebron because we signed a good backup PG. Maybe a future starter, but if Baron plays well, Sessions would be a backup for at least 3 years. I think Joe Johnson would also be a much better pickup. And with the trade exception and kaman we can maybe get a much more important starting player to add to the puzzle. There wont be a lot of teams that LBJ would want to go to that can afford him and the ZBo trade made the Clips one of them.

well if we get sessions, it would give us the flexibility to trade baron, to cut salary somehow, and still be in the 2010 sweepstakes except with a totally young lineup after this season of

sessions, gordon, thornton, griffing, kaman/deandre. i mean the oldest guy there would be kaman and he’s only 27 (and would be 28 next summer).

Sessions is 23, and in his 2 seasons has had a 44 point game, a triple double, and a 24 assist game. He is I think very underrated.

How is Sessions' Defense?

Seems that most believe in Sessions as a scorer and playmaker, but how’s his D? Not that his defense abilities need to match his offense abilities, but I’d like to get others’ thoughts on whether he’s going to burn us on the other side of the court.
