Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

Ariza or Battier? Both could be possible.

With Gortat going to DAL, this means HOU could still be interested in Kaman.  We might still be able to land Battier, but then we lose a very critical big man at this point.  Kaman and cricitcal don't usually belong in the same sentence, but for body purposes they do.  With Artest going to LAL, seems like Ariza's only real suitors for more than the MLE POR, TOR, and maybe CLE.  I heard the Raps are going after Turk, so is Portland.  Maybe if the markey dries up, we can throw our MLE at Ariza.

So what's it gonna be, Battier, at the expense of a big, or Ariza without damaging our newly-created cap space?

I don't want Ariza

He wants at least 8mil a year, and he’s not worth it. Trade Kaman for Battier. In 2010, we sign LeBron and go small with Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Shane Battier, LeBron James, and Blake Griffin starting. We could re-sign Camby for less with his bird rights and same with Q if he produces.

Ariza is not worth damaging our 2010 plan

I would do the Battier trade.

In Gordon we trust

by bestclipfan on Jul 2, 2009 5:19 PM PDT reply actions

But you cannot trade Camby

or we lose nearly half of our 2010 money. Kaman must go. How long is Battier under contract? 2or3 seasons?

a lot of options here, i may lean towards ariza though just because of his age. if dunleavy would wine and dine him, he may want to stay in L.A. and have that ucla connection with BOOMDizzy!

I'm starting to hate Ariza

I had respect for him during his UCLA years, but all this talk about him is getting on my nerves. The guy really isn’t worth 8 Mils!

i am fairly ok with just standing pat.

if anything kaman could be an asset later on anyway. we clearly are not winning it all this year so why not wait a year.

if we sneak into the playoffs in2010 thats fine, if not thats fine. why would we sabotage anything just to get a small forward who will make us marginally better in a year we might be a lower rung playoff team at best.

i wouldnt give up on kaman unless we get another center. we are going to lose camby… and we might actulaly need a center so we might as well wait another year, and if deandre is ready trade kaman then after we try our luck at the free agent draw.

True that.

Can’t Houston just take Camby for Battier? ):

Not Camby.

If we trade Camby we lose our 2010 space. Must be Kaman

LJ think about it

we trade Kaman, Camby goes 2010, and all we have left is DJ. We went from overfilling Centers to depleted. We really dont want to go witha starting center with Josh Powell talent do we?

We would

re-sign Camby for less, still have space. In 2010 we must 1 sign a big free agent(LeBron) and 2 re-sign camby with his bird rights.

My plan:

1: Trade Kaman for Battier
2: Next Year, sign LeBron
3: Play Small with PG: Baron Davis; SG: Eric Gordon; SF: Shane Battier; PF: LeBron James; C: Blake Griffin and Marcus Camby, Al Thornton, DeAndre Jordan, and Mike Taylor.

Your overdoing it with LBJ

you don’t even know if he even wants to leave, and even join the Clippers for that matter. I hate to throw it in anybodies face, but the Clippers are known as probably one of the worse franchise to play for. It’d be a miracle of LBJ would leave Cavs arleady, its another miracle of LBJ leaves to join the Clippers. I personally would love LBJ in a Clipper uniform, but it probably won’t happen.

Heh, NBA live 09 woudldnt even accept any trades for LBJ. LOL

Battier, NOT Ariza

Ariza is def. not worth throwing away the cap space in 2010. He’s a situational player and flourished because he got so many WIDE OPEN looks on the Lakers w/ Kobe and Pau. No way he gets those looks with the Clips.

Battier is worth it because he’s the king of intangibles. I really can’t see them trading Battier though. They absolutely love him. Unless they’re offered a star, he’s staying in Houston. I don’t think there’s a team in the league that values Battier as much as Houston.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2009 5:42 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed

I don’t know if Ariza will have the impact on the offensive end for the clippers. I rather have battier b/c of he appears to be a better passer

by Qlippers on Jul 2, 2009 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't get it

Seems like Ariza is an intangibles guy just like Battier. I agree, mg, they love him, and I suppose they love Ariza for a lot of the same reasons. But I don’t see the point of having both of them. Maybe they think that Ariza has more potential to be a scorer than we realize, on a team without Kobe, and as a young guy who is still on the upswing.

I guess playing with Battier will make Ariza better too.

by citizen zhiv on Jul 2, 2009 7:11 PM PDT up reply actions

No way is Ariza on Battier's level

It’s not even close. Battier is a lockerroom leader and has one of the highest basketball IQ’s in the game. Ariza’s defense is good, but he gets by on his athleticism and length, he has nowhere near the cerebral approach that Battier does.

Not to say that Ariza doesn’t have intangibles, but Battier is definitely on another level.

And I’ll believe Ariza has more scoring potential when he’s not scoring off of wide open threes as a result of Kobe AND Pau being doubled. The guy is 24 and had one good playoff run. Where was his scoring ability in Orlando?

Sure he’ll get better, but it’s way too early to compare him to Battier.

by madglove on Jul 2, 2009 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Battier

I don’t think Houston will trade him. Even though Yao will be out a while they don’t want to rebuild and he’s been their leader.

by Regulan on Jul 2, 2009 5:51 PM PDT reply actions

Very Unlikely

Kaman isn’t getting traded guys. Randolphs dealing leaves us with just the right amount of bodies to start a season. Dunleavy knows all too well the longevity of the NBA season, and the tolling injuries that take place throughout. For Kaman, Camby, and DJ to be healthy all 82 games is unlikely. IF we were to trade Kaman now, we will have gone from a team with a surplus of 4/5 and a thin 2/3 to its’ exact opposite. Trading a big for Battier would only do damage at this point me thinks. Plus, there’s no way Battier is on the trading block for the Rockets. He’s the Lebron James of moneyball, and he’s much too valuable to that organization than Kaman could ever be. It just doesn’t make sense on either side.

Ariza’s whole deal was that he was upset with the Laker’s thin offer for him. He’s clearly looking to make more money in the longer term, and he wasn’t willing to give a hometown discount to the Lakes. What makes you think he would do the same with us, since all we can offer him (I believe) is the MLE?

Dunleavy’s going to stand pat on Kaman at least until he knows what kind of player Kaman will be for the future of the program. Until then, he ain’t going anywhere. What is more likely is Dunleavy finding a FA that won’t disrupt our playability in the 2010 FA class.

“Grant Hill ($1.98 million): Played in all 82 games (started 68) for the first time in his career last season. Hill averaged 12 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists, proving that the all-around game is still there. He turns 37 before the season starts, but veteran leaders like this make sense on title hopefuls.” from http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/art_garcia/06/30/garcia.freeagent.bargains/index.html

im not sure but he seems like a veteran that could provide help at the 3 maybe for a year at least right?

1 year contract, inexpensive, and can provide dept at the 3.

like Novak gets more money somewhere else and Battier gets a career ending injury. And does anyone like my signature?
