Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Kevin grabbed a separate interview with Sebastian Telfair after his session with the gathered LA media. Bassy is a pretty fascinating story, when you consider that he was the subject of so much hype. I mean, is it safe to say that only LeBron James had as much media attention in High School?

Forget Sessions...

Let’s give this guy a chance to shine….I feel like he’s going to be the next Chauncey Billups success story.

Homerism...

is with regards to the home team, not necessarily where you were born.

I like Bassy, but your comment is clearly based on hope since he’s now a Clipper. Not necessarily based on anything else.

Anyway, I hope things work out great with Bassy. My desire that the team sign Sessions is more about how good I think Sessions is, not really that I don’t think Bassy is good.

Bassy hasn’t shown that he can be a consistently productive player when given big minutes. He says himself in that vid that he has to work on his consistency. But he’s only 23, so there’s definitely still hope for him.

I liked Bassy a lot coming out of high school, but his horrible shooting percentage scares me a bit. I still hope we get Sessions, but regardless I’ll obviously be cheering for Bassy too (unless he gets shipped before the season starts).

Lamerism...

“I like Bassy, but your comment is clearly based on hope since he’s now a Clipper. Not necessarily based on anything else.”

I like how your use of sarcasm when calling me out as a homer for liking Telfair while essentially agreeing with me about him. Lame.

Sessions is the better player, but I think he deserves a starting gig elsewhere (how about that for homerism?). You can’t trade away Telfair, sign Sessions only to have the Bucks match.

Agree?

You’ve gotta be kidding. You compared him to freaking Chauncey Billips. A Finals MVP, perennial All-Star and one of the best PGs in the game.

If you think “I like Bassy” is the same as that, you’re out of your mind.

I meant Chauncey Billups success story

Not necessarily that he’ll have the same stats as Chauncey Billups. No, I don’t think Bassy will likely get THAT career.

I was just referring to how Billups endured a long tenure as the journeymen PG who had to marinate a while before ‘making it’.

Woah madglove

He said “going to be the next Chauncey,” not that he’s already as good as Chauncey.

Uh...he's not going to be the next Chauncey.

And that’s not really what he said anyway.

Let’s just move on.

I took it to mean a success story after struggling, maybe you

misconstrued his meaning since it appears the rest of us understood his point. I would have dropped it, if you hadn’t started up again below.

Everybody here has a little homerism in them but it works out even better when a player we like suddenly ends up on our team.

This is homerism

“…I’ll obviously be cheering for Bassy too (unless he gets shipped before the season starts).”

Regardless of my loyalty to the Clips, there’s just certain guys across the league that you tend to like for whatever reason, guys who you wish them well – Telfair is one of them for me…

by banandy on Jul 24, 2009 12:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Uh...that's not homerism.

That’s just being a fan. What reason do I have to cheer for him if he’s not a Clipper?

Being a homer means that you have unreasonably high opinions of certain things simply because they are linked to your team. Thus, your fairly unfounded statement that Bassy will be a Chauncey Billups like success story.

I guess I’m not surprised since you didn’t know what the word meant from the beginning of this thread.

Really?

You’re still pushing this?

Yeah, i know what being a homer is – especially living in LA-ker land. Keep in mind that homerism is a direct result from ‘being a fan’…but you don’t even seem to know what a fan is.

How about this: as a FAN, I don’t root for certain guys on my team…at times even the coach. Just because he’s on the team, doesn’t mean you have to like the guy or root for him – that’s not what being a fan is…that my friend, crosses into homerism territory.

This thread must have been written to commerate their battles on this blog.

Nah.

I respect madglove’s contribution to the site – I just don’t like being called a homer unjustly.
