So the goal is perennial .500
And losing your “superstar” next season?
Huh.
by John R on Jul 27, 2009 8:49 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
So you think Colangelo's done a bad job?
Are you sure Bosh is gone next year? (By the way, he’s a PF, not an SF.)
I don’t think their goal is .500, but he’s dealing with a small market
Funny that as an MDSr lover you’d be criticizing another GM who’s obviously done very well given what he has to work with.

I don't think Colangelo's done a good job
the Raptors have not been good and he is very likely to lose Bosh (Bosh last year came to a media meeting and said he would not be back) and I don’t see them getting any where, maybe they make the playoffs which isn’t hard to do in the east but they are gone first round against any team.
In Gordon we trust

Toronto is a small market?
And no, Colangelo has NOT done a good job. You seem to be wrong about almost everything, Jax.
Stuck in limbo.

That stuff is the gold standard.

LOL - I have to say I generally think your posts are insightful
Even though we often don’t agree.
by Jax on Jul 27, 2009 5:53 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really only one place we don't agree...
It’s on the relative value of Dunleavy’s contributions over the years. But I’m not complaining (nor do I have the energy for the argument right now). When you (Jax) are engaged, you make a lot of sense. Sometimes, of course, you are also a bit of a pyromaniac or a provocateur. It’s also a little baffling, even to long-time visitors such as myself where you and John R went wrong. I skim when it gets personal.

I have to admit (and I'll deny it)
That I enjoy John R. I actually like the guy. I got fed up with his posts over on Clipperblog and took him on there, for which I received among others the following post from another poster who had been harassed over there: “I love you.”
In any event, John R’s a smart guy and we are lucky to have him on this site.

Ohmygosh!
Something’s wrong with Jax! He fell down and there’s stuff coming out of his ears! I think there’s something wrong with his brain!! Help him, PLEASE!!
Haha! LOL! The Clipper brethren! Awesome!

This a puff piece.
“…one of the best starting fives in the conference…”
In terms of being a balanced article, you lost me right there.
Hard for me to take this article (or any of its implications) seriously.
But hey – if it fits your view of the world, then by all means use it.

Well ok then
But actually the article was just the lead in. I think that Colangelo has done a good job. The article mentions a number of facts. I would think you could take those facts seriously if you were so inclined. Torkuglu is a good signing. So is Jack. And Calderon is a pretty good pg. It will not be easy to get Bosh to stay, but it appears that they’ve made inroads there.
But hey, if you want to ignore all that, it’s your prerogative.
by Jax on Jul 27, 2009 11:28 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You are correct - it's my prerogative...
…. to “take those facts seriously” and conclude that the Turkoglu signing was a serious overspend (just as it would have been if he had signed with Portland) and that the Jack signing was more about keeping Bosh happy (they’re best friends) than about truly improving the ball club. If you view that as “a good signing”, that is your prerogative in kind.
And by the way, I hate to be the anal retentive type but none of those statements are “facts.” 2+2=4 is a fact (and even some philosophers would challenge that as factual). Most of the statements made on this site are not facts – they’re subjective conclusions and opinions. This is not the first time I’ve spotted you asserting opinions as “facts” as if somehow we’ll all suddenly forget the definition of the word “fact” and come around to your point of view if you just call them “facts” enough times. It makes it a lot harder to take your thoughtful comments (which you do make) seriously when you play fast and loose with what you refer to as “facts.”

Oh come on
Relax. There are some facts in there – like the fact that they signed Torkuglu. That in and of iself was a pretty good coup, getting him over Portland. I agree with you generally about the website. No need to personally attack.
And yes, this is obviously John R’s second handle. The venom is spewing.
by Jax on Jul 27, 2009 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Hardly a personal attack. And hardly venomous. "Facts" are funny things...
I know it would be easier to believe that I’m John R in disguise (although anyone who reads his posts and mine can certainly spot the differences in logic and balance), since there would be one less detractor for you to address. But I’m not – I’m just a guy who gets tired of hearing the same tired arguments ad nauseum. We all have our tendencies on this site in terms of what works and doesn’t work with this team, but I do believe there is a line of decorum to be drawn in the debate and a very few people on this site choose to walk over that line with great regularity and then feign surprise when someone else calls them on it.
If you could just ease up on the predictable dogma just a bit (and if you not catching my drift, the past two postings “Coaches Matter” and "A Good GM… " are exhibits A and B), you’d get so much more love from the masses on this site… and people like myself would be 100% more likely to give you due credit when you make valid, relevant points. It’s not always about being right or wrong – it’s about HOW you make your points. But when you just throw these bombs out there with such a naked, predictable agenda, it moves beyond constructive interplay and moves to just one more tiresome exercise. Of course, you may not view it as such, and that is your prerogative.
As a great lyricist once wrote. “And in the end… the love you take… is equal to the love you make…”
Said less eloquently, what you give, you get.

With all due respect
There’s nothing wrong with the posts that I’ve made here. Many agree, some don’t, such as yourself. You’ve always expressed support for MDSr and posts that support him (John R’s “Coaches Don’t Matter” post comes to mind). My opinions are strong, and I intend them to be. As are yours. Do I think that you support any of your predictably pro-MDSr-everything posts? No, but I don’t feel the need to incessantly claim that your posts are horrible, boring, bad, wrong, etc. every single time you reiterate them. Even though I could easily do so since there’s never much to them. With all due respect of course.
Since you are not interested in my viewpoints, there’s really no need to respond to them or even to review them.
And people like me would be willing to give you whatever credit that you apparently think you deserve for your posts. Frankly, I could care less whether you give me credit for my posts. Apparently, that’s important to you (“you’d get so much more love from the masses on this site”).
If I were looking for love, I’m not sure that this would be the place to go.
Regarding the post here, really son, as I indicated above, the post points out a number of facts about the Toronto GM and what he’s doing. You disagree, but your opinions, really, aren’t supported. And you appear angry that someone expresses a viewpoint that’s different than yours. Sorry, but I’m going to have to keep trucking on. I suggest that you do the same.
by Jax on Jul 27, 2009 7:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I also think that your criticism of for example the post about why coaches matter
is unfounded. The point of that post is given the reality that MDSr can’t attract good free agents over here, and the number of teams who are gunning for 2010, that we could take advantage of these issues and get better creatively.
What’s wrong with that? Apparently nothing to a number of posters who thought that was a good idea.

It's Dunleavy as a coach that is a problem, not as a GM.
Except for all those opportunities he missed at firing himself as coach.
by Polish Rifle on Jul 27, 2009 2:13 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
If you replaced
Coangelo with Dunleavy in that article you would post about how bad of a GM he was. You are so obviously biased that no matter what Dunleavy does as a GM or coach it is the wrong move.
by C's Up on Jul 27, 2009 10:27 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
That's not true at all
Check out prior posts. I thought he did a great job as GM getting rid of Zbo for example.
However, I think he’s a horrible coach. Do you really think he’s a good coach? If so, why?
by Jax on Jul 28, 2009 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
My bad
You are just so anti-MDsr every post that you write seems to be reaming him no matter what he does. And do I think he is a good coach? Not particularly, but I dont think hes a horrible coach like many others on this site, hes a scapegoat, the fans want to blame the failures on someone so they chose him, when in fact it was the players fault for dogging it. I’ve met him in person and hes a nice guy and he knows what hes doing.
