Apparently there's a lot of red tape involved with the four-team deal that has to clear before Memphis is willing to make the Zach Randolph trade.

Personally, I'm a little anxious. A week is too much time for something to go wrong.

I’m not to worried, but like you I’m anxious for this deal to go down.

Pincus...

On top of the situation, as usual.

This all fits with my understanding. He says "While technically Memphis can make the Clipper deal today, a number of sources say the team doesn’t want to temporarily lock up their cap space while waiting for Stackhouse to clear waivers." OK. Yes, by my math the Grizz can do the Randolph deal before waiving Stackhouse. There’s really not much risk to ‘temporarily’ tying up cap space, but I suppose if you can avoid it, why not? If that $5M difference between Stack’s deal and his buyout is the crucial piece in getting a rush job done, you’d want to have it. I had forgotten that waivers take seven days in the off-season. Although, honestly, I don’t know what changes if someone claims Stack off of waivers – the Grizz will get that cap space back either way, so it seems silly to have to wait.

If Iverson wants to sign right now he can. If the Randolph trade goes through the Girz can’t sign Iverson for 7 days. This makes sense to me if they really want to get the Iverson deal done.

I get the whole waiting for stackhouse to clear waivers

However, what is their cap situation if they sign AI during that period? Will it affect the trade of ZBo?

LA Times

Lisa Dillman says

Short-term? The complicated four-team Turkoglu deal put a hold on the deal agreed to last week between the Clippers and Memphis, sending Zach Randolph to the Grizzlies in exchange for Quentin Richardson. Accounting issues have held things up and Memphis would not have been able to acquire Stackhouse from Dallas if Randolph’s contract was on their books. Once the trade is completed, including physicals, the Grizzlies are expected to waive Stackhouse and then the Randolph deal can be finalized after the waiver period of seven days passes.
The Clippers, who on Thursday signed their No. 1 pick Blake Griffin to a four-year deal worth $23 million, were concerned when it appeared the four-team deal could become even more complicated, which would further delay the Randolph trade. Apparently, the suggestion they would move on and explore another avenue was enough to get it all done.

Clipper Curse

….this deal is not going through.

….this is how it always is for us.

I’m ok with it though, I like ZBo.

ZBo won't be on the team

Zbo knowingly traded will go on a drinking and eating binge.
