Clipper Fandom Origin: Loved Under-appreciated PF Elton Brand. Became a Clips fan because of him. Hated Kobe. Still do but now not as much. Never been in a Clippers HOME game. Been in a Lakers game 3 times because my uncle company. Don’t worry, he’s not a fan though. Just sleeps during games. As for me, I root for the other team of course :). I was there when Lamar injured his leg and they lost to Sacramento. I was also there when Sprewell, yes the Latrell Sprewell, made a half court heave and made it. I loved the crowd’s reaction.

The third time I went was Clippers versus Lakers was Febuary 2 years ago. I think I still have the stub. It was a very VERY disappointing game. Al got into foul trouble very early and failed to show up. Brevin Knight started because Sammy was OOC. Suffice to say, it was horrible. the Laker fans was laughing at hollering at our team, and deservedly so. I think they lost by about 30 that night.

Favorite Current Clipper: No one in particular right now but who I really enjoy watching when he’s on the court is DJ. I like how h keeps you guessing and suddenly, you just say, “Wow”. He pumps me up.

Miscellaneous Factoid: favorite food is fried chicken.

Clipper Fandom Origin: I actually became a Clippers fan early on in high school when I read this article this http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FCJ/is_4_28/ai_69750765/ in Basketball Digest — I loved reading about the “college-type camaraderie” the extremely youthful Clippers (2001) seemed to enjoy regardless if their team won or lost.

Favorite Clipper: DeAndre Jordan

Misc. Factoid: I also follow the Raptors and Hornets

Job: Sound editor for film

Clipper Fandom Origin: Hate the lakers, loves rooting for the underdog, and wanted to go see some live basketball. Bought season tickets last year after baron signed but before Brand bailed. Suffered through the season with the biggest highlight being Novak’s buzzer beater(my first live one). I am amped for this October though and renewed my tickets after we won the lottery. The Suns are still my number 1 team but am growing love this one too.

Favorite Current Clipper: EJ

Introducing Me...

age: 29

From: Rockford, Illinois (90 miles from both Chicago and Milwaukee); raised in the Los Angeles area. Currently reside in Inglewood

School: Palisades Charter HS (class of ’98), briefly attended El Camino College and West Los Angeles College

Work: clerk for County of Los Angeles

Clipper Fandom Origin: Started following the team in my 6th grade year, around 1992. This was when I started to follow the NBA closely. Yeah, before I knew of the superstars—Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kareem, Nique…but never paid attention in great detail before I became a Clippers fan. The first Clipper game I attended in person had to be around 1994, against the Lakers at the Forum. This particular night, the Clips almost came from behind to beat the Lakes…but Worthy and his boys wouldn’t have any of that. My first Clipper home game was in 1996, I wanna say the opponent was either Cleveland or Minnesota, I forget. I actually got the ticket as a three-pack deal, with the L.A. City High School Basketball games—my high school’s girls team lost to Narbonne that year. In fact, Narbonne’s best player currently plays in the WNBA.

I went to the home opener and the final home game ever at the old Sports Arena…both losses. That was in the lockout-shortened year, when the Clips went 9-41. Except for last year’s, I’ve been to every Clipper home opener since the move to Staples Center.

Favorite Clippers: Elton Brand (before the backstabbing), Eric Piatkowski, Sam Cassell (although he can frustrating with his shot-selection at times), Bo Outlaw (the Clips still lack a hustle guy like him), Al Thornton, Cat Mobley, and Eric Gordon

Least Favorite Clippers: Michael Olowokandi-ass, Maurice Taylor, Elton Brand (since the backstabbing), any starting Clipper PG not named Gary Grant, Mark Jackson, and Sam Cassell.

Other Sports team: San Diego Chargers…although I do also enjoy college basketball and football, and Major League Baseball, and maybe a little hockey.

Misc.: My favorite foods are BBQ, pizza, fried chicken, steak, spaghetti, and some Mexican food.

Age: 23

From: Los Angeles

School: UCI (Just like you, PaperClip!)

Work: Film Industry, Business Side

Clipper Fandom Origin: Had to root for one of the SoCal teams, I made damn sure it wasn’t the Lakers. Began around 2001, just really appreciated the work-eithic the Clips put into every game. They’d come so close to winning games, but then just fell apart at the end. Direct opposite of the flashy Lakers winning every game, no thrill you know.

Favorite Clipper: Gordon baby, hence the handle.

Other sports allegiances: None, Clippers or bust.

Miscellaneous factoid: I have a twin, he’s die-hard LAC, as well, but not enough to post on blogs.

Introduction

I suppose its fitting that my first post be an introduction.

Age: 27
From: Bakersfield
School: CSUB
Work: History Grad Student/teacher
Clipper Fandom Origin: My first Basketball game was a clipper exhibition game, so i found my favorite sport and team all at once, and subsequent teams, such as the Vaught/piatkowski era, the EB/Q/Darius era, and of course the 2006 team all were great in their own ways which only served to reinforce my fandom.
Current Favorite Clippers: At this point probably EJ, though I’m excited to see BG and DJ develop. Baron if he can stay healthy and either get utilized properly or find a way to exist in MDSR’s system (shot selection Baron!!!)
All Time Favorite Clippers: Loy Vaught, Cat, Sam Cassell (for swagger’s sake), livingston and Elton for everything prior to last summer.
I support the campaign to get an In & Out in to staples, btw, it could use it.

School: No degree. I take the occassional course at Long Beach City. I’m in the distance learning degree program at Indiana U. I take about 1 class per year from there. Mostly for fun. I’m not even half way to my bachelors.

Work: when I feel like it

Clipper Fandom Origin: Actually, I bought an LA Clippers hat while still living in Dallas in 1992 just to be different, so I always had a soft spot for them. When I moved out here in the late 90’s, I didn’t feel comfortable jumping on board with the Lakers, so I started following the Clippers. My wife and I started going to games in 2001 (EB’s first year). We have been diehards ever since.

Favorite Clippers: Kaman, he is the only one left from our heyday

Other sports allegiances: I spent every summer back in Jersey, so I followed the Yankees and Mets pretty closely. Still follow the Yankees. The Mets lost me when Minaya came in and made tareting the latin market his sole focus. Dallas Cowboys for football.

Not that I want to say that's what defines Ralph Lawler;

but 25+ years from now, when Ralph might be done announcing games, I’m sure “Bingo!” will be the one thing that we remember most about him. I can’t hate the “Bingo” because it’s just one of the symbols that help define Ralph. Others that are also unique but less overpowering would be the “Oh Me, Oh My’s” and “Lawler’s Law.” Its great because Lawler seems to be inbetween the lines of old fashion sports announcers, and Mike Smith seems to be in the new genre era. It’s just an over-so-beautiful blend of pure bliss.

On an intresting note about Mike Smith though

is that per 36 mins, Mike Smith averaged 17pts a game-20pts a game. His PER was around the 13.3-14.2 mark. While obviously Smith was clearly not too productive in the NBA, I would’ve thought that if given more time Mike might’ve made a decent impact (off the bench) in the NBA. Too bad he didn’t stay any longer.

Hey, I wonder if Mike Smith could ever blog on here!

Smith didn't have it

Most of his PT was in garbage time, he was just a bust but hung around long enough to make a career out of it.

Definitely love the announcing duo, i’m pretty sure they’re a big reason why a lot of us are still Clipper fans through the ups and downs.

I remember at church they had this 20 dollar deal to go see a game on Sunday. My friends and I went to see a Clippers vs. Jazz game and the Clippers got spanked. For some reason I finished watching the rest of the season games ending with a humiliating defeat by the Los Angeles Lakers. From there I have been totally consumed by Clippers Basketball even though ive only really been a fan for a year and a few months. I got to see the Clippers get spanked by Portland last season and im hoping to go to a playoff game next year!

Age: 31

From: Originally NJ, but moved to South Bay (Torrance/PV) in 1991

School: UCLA

Work: Finance for major entertainment studio

Clipper Fandom Origin: followed MJ and the Bulls and would tease my Laker-loving friends endlessly…couldn’t openly root for the Lakers (nor did I want to), and the lowly Clips made the playoffs the year I moved to Cali and the rest is history.

Favorite Current Clipper: Marcus Camby

Other sports allegiances: Bruins, Bulls

Miscellaneous factoid: I love using my MS Excel skills with fantasy basketball

Age: 22

From: Los Angeles, Ca

School: University of Colorado

Work: Statistician

Clipper Fandom Origin: My father is a fan of both the Lakers and Clippers, but only took me to Clipper games when I was growing up because they were much much cheaper.

Favorite Current Clipper: Eric Gordon

Other Sports allegiances: Dodgers, LA Kings, Colorado Buffaloes, Bears

Miscellaneous Factoid: My parents bought me Adult Sized Danny Manning, Luc Robataille, and Rashaan Salaam (Bears) Jerseys when I was 9 and assumed i’d grow into them by the time I was a teenager….which never happened and never will but I still wear them to every respective game. So if you ever see a short guy with a Large Danny Manning Jersey, that’s probably me.

Coincidence time

I was a longtime season-ticket holder, and a father/son duo sat in front of me. The son, who’s probably about your age, went to University of Colorado.
But he’s studying economics, and is not short (except compared to hoopsters).

Old Man Zhiv

Age: 50. You heard me.

From: West LA, originally Coldwater Canyon, up towards the top where Brando lived next door to Nicholson. BHPO, as it was called. Now live inside the Westside Pavilion, between Baby Gap and the food court.

Schools: Uni High (post-Marques Johnson at Crenshaw, same class as Kiki Vandeweghe at Pali), UCSB two years, UCBerkeley 7 years (class of ‘80; English Lit PhD program ’81-’86. Never wrote dissertation.)

Job: The business we call show.

Fandom origin: Mild Laker fan in early Elgin Baylor-Jerry West days, but frustrated by getting beat by the Celtics every time. Bigger Laker fan at the end of that era, junior high president of John Q. Trapp fan club during winning streak, championship year. Big Kareem and UCLA fan, stronger allegiance to Kareem, Wilkes, and liked Worthy and Rambis more than Magic, but liked beating the Celtics. Big fan of Bill Walton winning NBA title with bandanna headband and going to countless Dead shows, Clippers first came on the Zhivdar with Walton and Sven Nater. Nothing against Shaq (hate Kobe), but started following Larry Brown Clippers because Laker regular season was meaningless. Drafting LO, Brand-Maggs trades made me a pure Clip fan, found myself excited to see Detroit beat Lakers in championship, transition complete.

Favorite Clips: Very tough question. I’m going to have to go with Kaman, because I’m a fan of the funk. Newbies Eric Gordon and Blake Griffin are there to make us forget our hopeless past, which can never happen too soon. Looking for Baron Davis to fire up and be a leader/favorite this season, but last year was painful. Card-carrying Novakian, and it occurs to me that the DeAndre Jordan fan club might be a worthy successor to the John Q. Trapp fan club.

Least Favorite Clips: What Clipper don’t I like? FElton is dead to me now, of course. Least favorite of all-time is easily Andre Miller. Badly want him to fail in Portland.

Other Sports allegiances: UCLA, alma mater of Father of Zhiv. His name is on the side of the building and Zhiv et Pere have sat in 4B, Row 12, seats 8-12 since the opening of Pauley where Kareem led the freshmen team to victory over the reigning national champs. Having been an obsessed fan through an entire dynasty eases the pain of being a Clipper fan. Went to UCLA football games for years (heartbroken by OJ in ’67, absolutely devastated), but Father of Zhiv gave up tickets a few years ago. Have been known to root for my California Golden Bears when they come to town, and enjoyed watching The Play against Stanford, making John Elway cry. Gaucho ties, but not much to root for there. Ram fan back in the Fearsome Foursome days, Merlin Olsen and Deacon Jones. First sports jones was Koufax and the Dodgers, Drysdale and Maury Wills. A whole lot of Vin Scully growing up, but not so much any more, never a big Chick fan, but have to give him his props, and treasuring the way that Ralph (or should I say Milph) has shepherded us through the desert, still waiting to reach the promised land.

Here I come!

Age: 20

From: Alhambra, Ca

School: Getting my degree at the Art Institute as a Web Design major

Work: Tutor/ Student

Clipper Fandom Origin: Pretty much just like everybody else. Started off a Lake show fan in 2001, and thought the Lakers were boring to watch. Then I realized there was this OTHER team in LA that no one really cared about. So I decided to abandon the purple and gold wagon and move on to something that was more fun to cheer about. Besides, Underdogs I love.

Favorite Clipper: I’m giving BD another chance. Bdiddy!

Other sports allegiances: I focus on Clippers mainly right now, but I cheer for the NY Jets too. Just because I have a sticker of them, AND they’re the underdogs.

Miscellaneous factoid: I’m actually a season ticket holder this season!

EDIT: Why is my username Iankobe? Because I started using this username in 2001 and I don’t want to change it since I’m using it throughout the whole internet such as youtube.

GO CLIPPERS!

Clippers 09-10. Prepare for a revolution.

If Ricky Davis can figure out a way to not completely suck this year, we could be really good.

Age: 23

Hometown: Malibu, CA. Now I live up north in Berkeley.

School: UC Berkeley, class of 2008.

Work: I work for a couple of elderly people, I guess you could call me a caretaker. I also work at a pool hall.

Clipper Fandom Origin: My Dad and older siblings had season tickets back at the sports arena in the early 80s before I was born. We never had season tickets when I was growing up, but we continued to live and die with the team.

Favorite Clipper: Christopher Kaman. Although I can always have a good BSkinnz conversation and EG Thizzface Supreme is the truth. Throughout the years I loved Loy Vaught, Eric Piatkowski, Keyon Dooling, DMiles and QRich. They should retire Sam Cassell’s jersey. Dunleavy, despite his mistakes, got Sterling to actually try and win, while Cassell gave Mr. Sterling a taste of winning and showed him what was possible. We should all be forever grateful.

Other sports allegiances: California Golden Bears, Colorado Rockies (Ubaldo Jimenez kicks it with Kaman in the Champagne Room, no doubt).

Miscellaneous factoid: If Chris Kaman had better focus, more killer instinct, and spent less time slanging that crack rock on every significant corner he would be one of the best players in the league. I also encourage all of you to replace your use of the verb “to eat” with the verb “to BSkinnz.” For example: “My friend BSkinnzed that hamburger and all that candy. He was really hungry.”

Yay yay.

Age: 21

From: SGV

School: CPP

Work: LAUSD

Clipper Fandom Origin: Sean Rooks to Lamar Odom to Darius Miles for the slam!
Also I was a deep Magic Johnson fan (which meant by default a Laker fan) but I got bored of them by their 2nd championship with Shaq&Kobe. I wanted to stay hometown fan, so I switched locker rooms.
Also whenever I played any basketball video game and created myself, I couldn’t put myself on the Lakers because they had a full roster of 15, the Clippers had an open roster spot.
With all that…things stuck and I’ve been an addict every since.

Favorite Clipper: Past: Sam I Am Present: BoomDizzle

Other sports allegiances: And1 Streetbasketball (original not current), Marshall Faulk, Magic Johnson
…haha all my other sports allegiances are all gone…oh well

Miscellaneous factoid:Frankie Muniz was in front of me in line at a Clipper game one time. He moved when I tried to take a picture with him in the background…I think he saw it coming.
I used to play NBA JAM with my little brother, he always wanted to be Micheal Jordan…but he wasn’t in the game…so next best solution: Malik Sealy of the LAC (black bald guy in a red uniform) he wasn’t the wiser haha.
